Surnames That Start With T

Why do some of the Irish surnames starts with O'? Is there any significance in it?

'O' = 'grandson' (Irish)'Mc'/'Mac' = 'son' (Irish)For completeness, when written in Irish there are female versions and derivatives of both 'Mac' and 'Ó':'Nic' = 'daughter' = female of 'Mac' (son)'Mhic' or 'Bean Mhic' = 'wife of a man whose surname starts with Mac' (son)'Ní' = 'granddaughter' = female of 'Ó' (grandson)'Uí' or 'Bean Uí' = 'wife of a man whose surname starts with 'Ó' (grandson)Examples:Mícheál Ó Néill might have a wife Síle Uí Néill, a son Tadhg Ó Néill and a sister Caitríona Ní NéillPádraig Mac Cárthaigh might have a wife Úna Mhic Cárthaigh, a son Seán Mac Cárthaigh and a daughter Aoife Nic Cárthaigh. All this stuff is well-documented at WP: Irish name - Surnames and prefixesI don't see that this stuff is that obscure or mysterious like some people seem to believe... it's not exactly hidden. Also 'Fitz' = 'son' (but for Norman names, from ‘fils’), as Philip Newton already mentioned. So the English 'Fitzgerald' is written in Irish as 'Mac Gearailt'. (If you're following closely, how do you know when translating back from Irish-> English which surnames become 'Fitz' as opposed to 'Mc'/'Mac'? You need to know which surnames were Norman origin). Some more reading if you like:WP/Irish name: Notable examples of firstnames and surnames - some famous examples you might already know:JFK (John Fitzgerald Kennedy) = "Seán Mac Gearailt Ó Cinnéide"Michael Collins (revolutionary leader) = "Mícheál (Eoin) Ó Coileáin"Mary Robinson (former Irish President) = "Máire Bean Mhic Róibín"IrishCentral: List of top 100 Irish last names explained (includes family history, whether they're Norman etc.)

What are some good surnames starting with 'M' that doesn't reflect your religion?

Thanks for the A2AIt was a tough one. I'll do my best to answer your question. Predominant names in India are Hindu names. So no matter what surname you pick, it will somehow still reflect your religion. And if it doesn't people will ask your religion out of curiosity. There are no surnames in India that does not reflect religion. Any name you take will have some or the other religious tinge to it that may reveal your religion.Out of curiosity, why do you think your Islamic name will frighten people? In India, people mostly don't care what your religion or your surname is as long as you live by your values as an Indian. They wouldn’t care less even if you declare you’re an atheist.I've come across a surnames which is a Christian and Punjabi (I think) at the same time, eg Paul. If there are similar sounding names then the spelling will give way. eg. Naik and Nayak. So you could choose a surname which may sound either the same or something with a different spelling.Since you still wish to change your name, please go through the links below which should give a fair idea of the surnames segregated religion-wise, it's not detailed but there are few that left my head scratching as well when it came to guessing their religion. Sorry I couldn’t narrow down to a few names as I found it hard to disassociate any religion sounding names.Indian Surnames starting with MConsider some Some English surnames that sounds little Indian as well depending on how you pronounce it:All surnames beginning withYou'll have to do some scouting here since there's a mix of Christian surnames as well.Appendix:Indian surnamesI hope you'll find what you're looking for.

Is there any Romanian last names that start with a K?

Romanians use the letter "k" often but in very(and I mean very) few words like kilogram, kilometer;kelvin.. you know... measurement units. We don't have the letter K in names cause we don't actually use it for something else. Any "k" in a name coming from a Romanian ID means that person is a citizen of Romania but is from non Romanian ethnicity; we have minorities like Hungarians that may have k or German (Keller) but those aren't Romanian names; remember... you won't find K in a Romanian name or even word. Other letters that we don't us are: q, w or y.
