Swollen Lip After Getting Fillings And Pus Help

Toothache And Now Swollen Lip!?!?

Just from the description you gave, I would guess the dentist did some form of a root canal and then put a filling in the tooth to close it up. If he did not seal the canal, but just removed the nerve, that would not be enough to keep infection from occurring. You need a root canal most likely, but first you need some antibiotic to get the infection down so the tooth can be anesthetized properly. Call a dentist today, the pain and swelling will only get worse.

If the ice did not hurt your tooth, it is a dead or dying tooth. Normally a live tooth would be hypersensitive to ice being placed on it.

Is this minor swelling, after having a cavity filled, normal?

It really depends on the type of swelling that is there.
The swelling could be due to the injection site of the local anaesthetic. Administering local can cause swelling and bruising in the area. There may be some visible bruising in your mouth if this was the case. In addition, if it just a small bruise like swelling it will subside in a couple of days to a week.
If the swelling in your mouth is like an abscess i.e there is pus discharge into your mouth, you have a bad taste in your mouth or you have a bad smell from your mouth, then you do need to go and see your dentist. These are signs of an infection. Although, i am unsure of the cause as it would require an examination. If this was the case you would probably have some pain associated with the swelling.
Furthermore, there are many things that can cause swellings in your mouth and if at all concerned i would visit your dentist as soon as possible.

Swollen gums after a filling?

So, I had a filling 3 weeks to a month ago. It was a deep filling, but the dentist took an x-ray and saw no need for a root canal.

The filling (the white kind) went in just fine but was sore. After the first week the gum surrounding the tooth started to swell. It wasn't the whole gum, just the gum around the tooth. I went back and they took an x-ray to see if a root canal was necessary, saw no damage to the tooth or nerve, and cleaned the gums out and drained an infection in the gums. I don't now what the gum cleaning was called, but they used the pick and drill, but only had to numb the gums - not the tooth. It wasn't fun, but wasn't that painful. Took about 20 minutes, and the dentist said they cleaned out some "infection and drained the pus." No root canal. The dentist gave me antibiotics to kill whatever was left of the infection, in case something didn't get cleaned or drained in the work he just did. The gum stayed swollen after the work, but was it was significantly less.

The antibiotics are a 10 day pack. Penicillin VK 500mg 3x daily. I have 14 left (4 days and two pills). The pain is gone, the tooth responds to heat and cold the way my other teeth do and always have, it isn't sensitive to touch or pressure. But the weird part is the gums are still swollen, including my right lymph node. No pain, just swelling - more than right after the gum cleaning was done, but nothing noticeably different from the initial swelling.

So, the tooth seems to be better, but i think the gum is infected again. I'm not sure if this means the antibiotics didn't do what they should, if they haven't had enough time to work, or if it is something else.

any suggestions?

How long does it take for the swelling to go down from a cavity filling?

More details please. Small cavity? Root canal? How is it swelled?

It shouldn't be, so call your doctor and give them those details. They can look at your chart and give you an educated answer.

How can I get the temp filling out so I can let my tooth drain out the pus?

MANY PATIENTS FEEL HYDROCODONE(AKA, VICODIN) IS NOT AS EFFCTIVE AS IBUPROFEN (AKA ADVIL 800mg) FOR PAIN.
THE TEMP FILLING CAN ONLY BE REMOVED USING A DENTAL DRILL BY A DENTIST.
ps, any warmth to the tooth is very bad advice, at this monent this tooth needs ice water and cold for the pain

Is it normal for my abcessed pimple (boil) to keep filling up with pus?

You need to go to your doctor and have it lanced, you are running the risk of the infection spreading through your bloodstream. That can be fatal. Your doctor will also put you on antibiotics and prescribe an antibiotic cream for the boil. No, the over the counter stuff won't do instead. Go see your doctor. Besides, do you want a big ugly crater on your leg? That's what you'll end up with if you keep messing with it.

Mouth sore after filling?

if the dentist had given you injection before doing the fillings to numb the tooth, then the swelling and soreness is in the jaw muscle.you need to do warm salt water rinses 3-4 times a day on this side and the jaw muscles will be relaxed and mouth opening begin.
incase no injection was given then it might be possible thet the tooth is infected, get a check up done again.

A dentist drilled a hole in my tooth to drain an infection and put a temporary filling with cotton that came out. What are the repercussions of this?

Sometimes infection in the pulpal tissue cause pus which has to be drained. It relieves the pressure hence pain subsides. The cavity he prepared in your tooth is probably a root canal he prepared. Root canal therapy is usually done in two sittings, one in which canal is prepared and left for healing. And in the second sitting the cavity is filled with filling materials like composite.Dont worry, when you go for visiting your dentist for the next time get your cavity filled. Till then try to ignore the “suction hole”.The dentist must have prescribed you antibiotics and painkiller. Painkiller you can take whenever you feel the pain.
