Symptoms In A Sick Old German Shepherd

My german shepherd is vomiting, but doesn't seem sick in any other way?

Take him off all food for 24 hours. Carefully check any area he has access to and put away anything he may grab. If he is keeping water down in 24 hours, then feed him some cooked rice with a salted meat broth. As long as that stays down, replace about a fifth of the rice with his regular food at his next meal. Continue replacing the cooked rice with his food until he is back to eating just his food. Adult dogs, especially deep chested breeds like the GSD, should have their daily ration split between two meals. It reduces the risk of bloat.

How do I care for an 8-week old German Shepherd puppy?

I love Mary Nielson’s answer because it is spot on. I just need to add a couple of things.Toys - Your puppy is going to need a lot of appropriate things to chew on. Puppies chew and it is going to get excessive in 2–3 months because they will be getting their adult teeth. Without appropriate toys your puppy will chew on inappropriate things. Your puppy does not know what is safe from what isn’t and they experience the world with their mouths. That means you are going to have to pay close attention, especially out on walks. Please do not give your puppy rawhide chews! They get soggy and can be a real choking hazard. I almost lost a dog to one years ago. They also teach your dog that it is okay to chew on leather. If you want to protect shoes, bags, furniture or jackets not giving your puppy rawhide is the first step.Foods- Please make certain that you don’t give your puppy raw or freeze dried raw food/treats. Puppies do not have a fully developed immune system so these things can make them sick. Adult dogs do fine with these, but stay away from these foods until your puppy is an adult.Enjoy your puppy and remember to give them a lot of attention. German Shepherds are sensitive and extremely bright. When they feel neglected they can become destructive. I had one that tore up my couch because I worked overtime one night. If I had been home as usual that likely would not have happened. Dogs like routine, it can be altered to benefit them, but they hate it when the change isn’t in their favor. A longer walk or an extra one is cool, but one shorter than normal walk will leave them wanting. If you can find a cover for the toilet paper roll, that would be a good idea. GSDs seem to have a thing for shredding paper, you could end up with tp confetti when they are bored.

How much rice and hamburger to feed to a german shepherd?

Have you tried fasting him for the first 24 hours after you see diarrhea and see if it makes a difference? I started doing that once my dog decided that these bland diets were just not going to do so he wasn't eating them anyways. It actually helped stop the diarrhea quickly as it wasn't giving him any new food to digest.

I don't know if there is an actual portion that you should give - I just equate it to around much he usually eats in kibble. So for every kibble meal he gets (he eats 4 times a day) I give him 1 cup. So for hamburger and rice I would give him 1 cup of each and just mix it together and that would be one meal for him.
I also feed him pasta (yeah I'm Italian lol) when he has diarrhea to help bind him up. No sauce of course, but he loves slurping spaghetti and it helps as well.

My german shepherd likes to sit in the pouring rain? Is this normal?

I have a german shepherd about two years old. We have a house for her outside but when it rains she never stays in her house for long. She will go in for a little bit then go outside in the rain. Once in a while she will sit near the backyard door where there is shelter but most of the time she will sit in the corner in the pouring rain. We put her in our garage but she always barks and tries to escape. We chained her to the backyard door/gate underneath shelter but she does the same thing. When we chain her to her dog house she doesn't stay in the house. She just sits in the rain even though the dog house is right next to her. Is this normal? Will she get sick? Can she die from sitting in the rain too long?

I'm really concerned.. We can't bring her into the house because my baby brother is very allergic to dogs. So please, do not give me the "give your dog to someone else who can treat her better", "why don't you put her in the house" type of comments please.

I also think she has a noise phobia as well. Since she pants a lot, does not listen to any commands, shivers, and has other symptoms of the noise phobia. This only happens when it rains though.

My chow/german shepard 3month old puppy wont eat, and he has diherrea.?

Why would you put your dog's health at risk because you want to be cheap? Shame on you. Don't get them if you can't afford them. Taking a dog to the doctor is a BASIC responsibility, just like a child. Would you let a baby go for days without eating and with diarrhea? Too bad it practically takes the dog's death before people learn (sometimes not even then).

What are the symptoms of Pancreatitis in horses?

Pancreatitis occurs when the ducts that carry the pancreatic enzymes from the pancreas into the duodenum are obstructed, and the enzymes then begin to digest the tissues of the pancreas itself (autodigestion). I'm posting an article explaining cause, and including equine case studies listing all symptoms noted in each case which should give you your answers. Just click on the first page, and then click on the numbers of subsequent pages found at the bottom of each page to read through the entire article. ........

Does shaking and whining by a dog automatically mean the dog is sick and should be taken to a vet?

It's obvious something is wrong. Take to vet if your dog doesn't stop.

Vomiting and ringworm in humans Are they related?

RINGworm is a spore on the skin. Chances are the dog may have intestinal parsites like ROUNDworms or the like causing the vomiting. An abrupt change in diet can certainly cause vomit/diarrhea for a dog and it is common for G. Shep. to have a senstive digestive tract.
Your husband may well have a stomach bug however the usual treatment for ringworm for humans is a topical medication along with an oral pill which can in some cases cause GI upset.

How do you treat distemper in 5 week old puppies?

Thanks for the A2A.If you suspect your puppy/puppies have distemper they need to be seen by a Veterinarian ASAP. There is no home treatment for distemper.FYI the typical distemper suspect is a rescue or pet store dog or puppy, usually with questionable vaccination history or an as yet incomplete vaccination series. The dog or puppy has been housed with other rescue dogs.Symptoms begin with:Gooey eye and nose dischargeFever, which often comes and goes unnoticedPoor appetiteCoughing and development of pneumoniaThe virus is attacking interfaces of the body with the environment (the mucous membranes) and starts with the respiratory tract, hence the pneumonia, but it does not stop there. The virus moves on to produce:Vomiting and diarrheaCallusing of the nose and foot pads (hence one of the old names for distemper – hard pad disease). After completing what is called the mucosal phase of infection where environmental interfaces are attacked (as described by the above GI and respiratory disease), the virus proceeds to the central nervous system for its neurologic phase leading to:Seizures, classically starting with snapping or tremors of the jaws that progress to convulsions of the whole body. This distemper classic sign is called a chewing gum fit.Seizures are not the only distemper sign by any means. Tremors, imbalance, and limb weakness all may occur. Signs may progress to death or may become non-progressive and permanent. Recovery is also possible. This means that the dog appears to recover only to break with neurologic disease 1 to 3 weeks later. Younger puppies or individuals with weak immunity often die during the mucosal phase while stronger individuals may have relatively mild mucosal signs and not appear ill until the neurologic phase strikes.Canine Distemper - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company!
