Why does Quora still remain unknown to most Indians, and what should be done to popularize Quora in India so that it benefits all of us?

A couple of years back, I used to blog. I would put it up in Facebook notes so as to make it easier for my friends to read by tagging them in it. That way I could get even their friends to read. My aim was always to seek response and have a sensible discussion, even the topics were what they could easily understand. No one commented on it, just 'liked' it as it's one of the unsaid rules of Facebook - you are tagged in something, you 'like' it.I asked my friends to read and inbox me their views if not in comments and here's what I got -Me: Bro, here's the link of my new note, read and let me know how you like it.5 mins laterFriend 1 : Bro! It's like a whole page long. Don't you have any work? Exams are near study for that.F2 : I'll read it tomorrow morning bro, I'm watching Roadies Pune auditions, here's the link.F3 : It's nice Anurag :)F4 : Bro, write about a girl you like everyone will read it. Anyway nice :).My crush : It was so nice, made me sleep halfway when I was not feeling sleepy :P.Lost the little crush I had. Those who commented -"Great job, what writing!"'Nice work Shakespeare'[sic] "Got the point? Most Indians are not into reading. We read something only if it's in our syllabus otherwise, "useless knowledge is waste knowledge. What's the use in knowing why Mongols didn't attack India?"When I ask them to check my answer on Quora, this is the response I get - "Seems to be a site for geeks and big people, we are small people (sarcastic tone)"Enough said.Like thriller posts?Check this out - Anurag Surya's answer to Can you write a murder-mystery using only the first and last sentences of the story?

Why do social issues still remain unsolved in society even though we make an effort to solve them?

I don't think we can ever solve all social problems, but like the question implies, I agree that we're not doing as well as we could be.My freshman year in college I took an anthropology/sociology class, and for the first time in my life I was exposed to scientific facts about the human species. Not speculation, not conjecture, not philosophy, but things that scientists can establish about our particular species. It was transformative to how I thought about social problems. I have memories of debates from history class in high school where we discussed the theories of Hobbes and Locke and other great philosophers and formed our opinions about the true nature of human beings - I didn't realize the were evidence-based answers to this! Do humans need government to avoid killing each other off?  Nope. It's not a debate, the concrete answer is no. Would society naturally fall apart if we didn't have government to hold it together? Nope again. Humans are a social species and we simply do not live individually. The answers go on and on. (Not that anthro/soc is a field with no remaining questions, but the solid knowledge in the field goes far beyond what most people are aware of).Since that class I have fantasized about it being a required subject for everybody. So many of our failed attempts to fix social problems are caused by ignorance on the part of participants and decision-makers of these basic facts about who we are and what we require. So, my answer is that too few people are educated  on the facts of our species. We would still have plenty of cases where we didn't succeed, even if people were educated this way, but at least we would move towards having more efforts that were more appropriate for humans.
