Take Your Lunch In Greek

What is the value of a Greek Drachma?

The Greek drachma when it was converted to euro was 340.75 per euro.

A loaf of bread today costs 0.90 to 1.00 €

A decent lunch can cost from 10 € to anything upwards per person.

In fact things cost about the same as in the rest Euro using countries of EU. but certainly much more in comparison to prices in drachma.

Food Named After Greek Gods?

Hey! Me and my friend need help making a menu for a greek restaurant that is greek god themed. Its a breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant. The names we have so far are

hades hot fries: french fries with mozzarella cheese and Chili peppers, hotter than hell
Pegasus wings: basically chicken wings

anything that sounds funny would be awesome, and along with the name of the food, could you tell us what the food is? Cause if someone puts down a name, we might not know what food to put it under.

THANK YOU!

What do you bring to a greek easter dinner?

A good rice-orzo pilaf.

Take an onion, dice, saute in good olive oil. When onion is clear, saute a cup of rice and a half cup of orzo until the orzo is browned. (Orzo is rice shaped pasta.) Add two cups of hot chicken broth, some chopped parsley. Simmer covered until rice has absorbed the liquid. If dry add more broth, stir in and continue to cook. Garnish with slices of lemon.

What are some traditional Greek foods?

Greek salad is called "horiatiki salata" in Greece, which means village salad. Typical ingredients are tomato wedges, chopped onion and green peppers, chopped (not crumbled!!) feta cheese, sliced cucumbers, a generous amount of olive oil, and a sprinkling of oregano. You can't eat this properly without some nice fresh bread.

Other Greek foods to consider:

Vegetarian dishes:
-fasolada (bean soup with carrots and celery)
-fasolakia (green beans in a light tomato+oil sauce)
-lentil soup
-gigantes (baked beans and various veggies)

Meat dishes:
-kreas styfado (beef in tomato sauce with caramelized onions; reminds me a bit of beef bourguignon)
-kreas ladorigani (pork cutlets in an olive-oil/lemon/oregano sauce)
-mousaka (layered pasta/eggplant/meat dish; can be made without meat)

Appetizers:
-spanakopita (spinach with/without feta cheese in filo)
-kolokithokeftedes (scary word that means "zucchini balls" - yum)

You can probably Google these and find recipes. Spellings may differ occasionally.

What do Greeks typically have for breakfast?

It depends actually. Me and my family have something light, like milk with cereals, orange juices, nutella with bread and milk , honey with bread etc. Here in Greece we drink alot of coffees (which is a bad thing obviously).I know kids that drinks energy drinks in the morning (every morning) and i know others that they dont eat anything. I mean most of the world eats pretty much the same things in the morning.Personally i cant eat eggs and sausages like Germans do or have a tea like English people usually do, but if you like it, why not right?
