Is it dangerous to stop eating sugar?

About as dangerous as not drinking ********* (I decided to remove that word just in case someone decided to try it. Trust me, you would regret it).First, you cannot avoid eating sugar as part of a healthy diet (whatever that is). Most plant foods contain some measure of sugar or starch (same thing, really) and that is perfectly healthy (unless you deliberately choose a diet consisting solely of rice and bananas). The only sugar you can avoid is added sugar, and everyone should avoid that in excess. Even honey, Stevia and the like. And especially artificial sweeteners. And what’s wrong with artificial sweeteners? Even if they are not directly harmful (and that’s open to debate), they keep you used to præternaturally sweet flavours. And yes, I know I’m a bit strange. When I make a tomato sauce, I add a drop of vinegar to balance the sweetness in the canned tomatoes. I have a packet of sugar in my kitchen that’s been there for 11 years. Maybe longer. It was a gift.I’m still breathing.

What's the risk of eating too much hard candies?

1) Sugar crashes. When you eat tons of candies your sugar levels spike and you feel good for 10 mins. Then they crash down and you feel like crap for a whole day- no energy, depressed, your head and eyes may hurt.

2) Sugar addiction. As i said, your sugar levels crash down rapidelly fast and you crave sugar again. It makes you ALWAYS HUNGRY.

3) Weight gain. Always hungry means always eating. Always eating leads to weight gain.

4) Dentists. Enough said.

Is it safe to eat Tums like candy?

Well, no- it's not safe to eat Tums like candy because they aren't candy. Tums are made primarily of calcium carbonate. People might think that would mean you got extra calcium, and that makes it a good idea. Except they forget, your stomach produces acid for a reason. That's because you need to break down the food you eat into a form your body can use. Constantly neutralizing the acid means digestion can't really happen. Abusing an anti-acid like Tums will mean you don't break down proteins the way you should, and so don't absorb the nutrition you need. It can make you severely constipated, to say the least- and malnourished in the long run. There is also plenty of evidence that the excess calcium is very hard on the kidneys, and can lead to the development of kidney stones or disrupt the normal function of the kidneys. In a worst case scenario the kidneys themselves can fail. Antacids were never intended to be eaten like candy, they were only meant to temporarily help when you have heartburn. Your friend may also just be covering up other digestive problems that could also lead to developing something worse. He needs to lay off the Tums, unless he really needs them. And if he thinks he needs them that often, he needs to see a doctor first.

Do you realize how dangerous candy canes really are!?

So i was just casually sucking on a candy cane, when my tongue got stuck in a crack in the candy cane and started bleeding! Then, I accidentally stabbed my tongue with the sharp end of the candy cane. My mouth is sore now, and I'm actually scared to eat candy canes now! Did you know they were dangerous, cause I didn't?

Why is eating sugar or sweets being treated as dangerous more nowadays than ever?

Why is eating sugar or sweets being treated as dangerous more nowadays than ever? Sweets / desserts existed along with human existence I believe. But, why is it getting increasingly dangerous to indulge in sugar than ever before?Excess refined sugar in the diet is not more dangerous than it used to be, but two things have happened to make it seem that way:The FDA has backtracked on its decades-long cautions about fat in the US diet, and admitted that they greatly underestimated the dangers of excess refined sugar during those same decades. The average US consumption of refined sugar has steadily increased in the past century, and is at a level now that is far beyond what is healthyI blame “sugar creep” and pre-packaged convenience foods for this. One food packaging company will add a bit more sugar than before to a given product, and sales go up. So their competitors add more too. Once Americans get used to the sweeter taste, they add a bit more, and sales go up again. This vicious cycle has been going on for many decades, until visitors to the US from nations with fewer pre-packaged foods tell us they are appalled at how sweet everything tastes in the US.And this is not only dessert foods. We find added refined sugar in all kinds of sauces and main dish meals as well. Chinese restaurant owners often remark at how much additional sugar they have to add to their dishes to even get Americans to eat them.So excess sugar is no worse than it ever was for our health. But there is a lot more of it now, and we are only just beginning to acknowledge that this trend represents a problem.

Do you let your kids eat Halloween candy?

I am not a parent, but I have taken care of many children and know that the thrill for most kids is the actual Trick or Treating and not so much eating the candy. I know that every child has had that one Halloween where they eat ALL of their candy in one night and become so sick they never want to see a Snickers again!

Seriously, I think that what you could do is ask to go through the candy bag. Definitely take out anything that is questionable or unwrapped. If you know your child's favorite candy, buy a few before hand and, if you are concerned with the amount of candy your children are eating, you can swap a 5:1 ratio (5 pieces of various candy for one piece of their favorite).

Hopefully, the children will be happier with a moderate amount of their favorite candy versus gorging on random, potentially harmful candy. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
