The Differneces Of Each Military Branch

What are the differences between the branches of military?

Purposes
---excluding special forces
The Navy manages and supports all sea-faring equipment for warfighting and provides combatant support and transport to the other branches in that context. It houses our sea-based nuclear deterrent

The Air Force manages airborne and spaceborne equipment in support of the Army and provides transport support to the other branches in that context. It has grown to cover some of its land-based support needs historically provided by the Army (base acquisition and security, logistics). It houses our air and land based nuclear deterrent.

The Army is the United States garrisoning, land invasion, and land-based warfighting component. Garrisoning is the primary difference between the Army and Marines -that and size. Army doctrine suggests troops stay and defend the places they control (IE hold on to things that have strategic value). The Army provides land-based logistics to the other branches as well as acquisition, financial and testing services.

The Marines are both the country's seaborne invasion and warfighting component and a land-centric element supporting the Navy. They may be employed in support of a fleet's mission (similar to the way the Army supports the Air Force) or the fleet may be supporting the Marines' invasion goals. It is not a garrisoning force (IE it only holds onto places that hold tactical or operational value as opposed to strategic value). We are the only country I can think of that has a Marine Corps which forms its own branch of the military. In most countries the Marine Corps is much smaller and completely under their navy head (an admiral). Our Marine Corps is the size of many countries' armies and functions under the department of the Navy (a civilian cabinet member).

The Coast Guard is our nation's seaborne border defense contingent, the seaborne rescue service in areas that do not have a local service or that need augmentation, a seaborne federal law investigation and enforcement service, and the closest thing the ocean has to a DMV. They manage both civilian sea equipment and military sea equipment. Contrary to popular belief, they deploy world-wide in support of those missions. Uncontested International waters are fair game to any ship, and the Coast Guard exploits them when law enforcement duties deem that necessary. Curiously their border defense duties send them to foreign seas in defense of our interests as well (but always in defense).

What are the differences in each of the military branches?

In order of comfort and clean hands: the Air Force has the cleanest hands and the best accommodations, they fly everywhere they go and the food is hotel excellent as well… next comes the Navy and the Coast Guard, not a bad gig as long as you don’t get sea sick and you don’t mind learning how to tie different rope knots… next comes the Army and these guys are famous for camping with a lot of support from behind the lines. Finally we have the Marines, the roughest badass “do more with less” troops in the military, even Marine cooks are issued a rifle and they have to qualify just like the field troops. As far as uniforms go the Marine Corps “dress blues” win hands down with Marine Officer dress uniforms maybe a notch above those worn by enlisted personnel. PS: as opposed to all the other services the Marines kick ass on land, sea and air, which you gotta admit is pretty cool.

What's the difference between EOD in each branch of the military?

Im not referring to the training pipelines, I'm talking about the day to day job similarities and differences. I understand that they are all bomb technicians who equally handle IED and UXO threats. From what I've heard the only difference is that each branch has their "specialty" such as Navy- underwater clearance
AirForce- Aircraft maintenance
Army/Marines- route clearance
Other than that the bulk of their work is the same and its fair to say that its equally dangerous. Right?

How is the mentality of different branches of the US military different?

Comparing US Army and US Marine Piss TestsWhen I told a former Marine CO I was joining an Army Reserve unit, he said, “soldiers have comparable skills in the field, but you’ll be frustrated by the lack of Marine Corps urgency when in garrison. “My Army Reserve unit was a Cav Scout unit without the vehicles. During one of our drills, we had to do a company drug test, which was announced at formation. Later, in a big classroom, the CO addressed the company for about 30 minutes, telling us why the piss test was important. Then the First Sergeant spent an equal amount of time talking about the importance of US Army drug policy. Then he introduced a Staff Sergeant who would be responsible for the overall administration of the piss test. The SSG spent a half hour talking about the process of peeing in a cup. Also he would need a person from each platoon to help him collect the samples. Overall they spent about 2 hours talking about the piss test.Fast forward a few years and back in the Marine Corps ReserveI remember a piss test in my Marine Reserve unit a few years later. It was announced at the end of a morning formation. The corpsmen would collect the samples. Each platoon would send a Marine to help the corpsmen. Get it done. When the company was dismissed, our platoon sergeant about-faced towards us to dismiss the platoon. “You heard the Sgt Major. Piss test. Start drinking water now. Sergeant O, you’re Meat-gazer on this one. Go see the Doc. Fall out.”All in all, the order and instructions to take a piss test took less than 4 minutes. I remembered my former CO and thought, yessir, you were right.

What are benefits of each military branch?

The best in education, as bad as I hate to say it, probably the Navy and it's certainly safer than the Marine Corps. I would only consider those two and both are related. All things considered however, the Marine Corps is America's Elite and best trained and have a glorious history of over 200 years. If you go Marines, don't go infantry if you're interested in a specific field of expertise. Infantry doesn't predispose you to much in the civilian world outside law enforcement. As far as money to go to college, they're basically all the same - you have an opportunity to sign up for the Montgomery Bill. HOWEVER, my reason to answer; I can get you or your friend (tell him about this) FREE airfare for any two people to attend your graduation from Marine Corps boot camp (MCRD or Parris Island.) I can do it only before you join. Call me if you or your friend is interested at (817) 371-5120 or email me from my profile.

What do different military branches think of each other?

They are all brothers in arms, they have respect for each other. Each branch has stereotypes and each member will tease the other branches, my Hubby and brother are Army, my cousin is a Coastie and my Dads Navy, they tease the crap out of each other. But heaven help it if a civi tries to, the military as a whole always has one another back.
