explain this... 1. force theory- it maintains that states must have been created through force, by some great warriors who imposed their will upon the weak. 2. Social contract theory- It asserts that the early states must have been formed by deliberate and voluntary compact among the people to form a society and organized government for their common good. This theory justifies the right of the people to revolt against a bad ruler.
Give an example of how discrimination might still persist in a competitive market.?
Discrimination could be a result of prejudice of customers or other workers. They have no profit incentive to correct their behavior. Sports fans are less interested in products endorse by black athletes. Male employees may exclude women from full participation in joint projects making them less productive.
How serious a problem do you think that prejudice against minority groups is in the United States today?
Prejudice against the majority group is, by definition, a bigger problem. Especially when it is encouraged.You can prejudge a white person by presuming white privilege.You can prejudge a male as being a sexual predator. No trial. Just a flimsy accusation or two is sufficient.You can hate a person just by the look on their face in a Huffington Post photo. Why does the world have so much prejudice against China, Vietnam, and Russia?
I think it is important to realize that positive/negative views towards any country is contingent upon political circumstances. At present prejudice against China, Russia (though I am not sure Vietnam is the case) is pervasive because China and Russia are now regarded as “revisionist powers”, trying to challenge the international system with their different political systems and norms. Not only do the two countries have different political and economic systems, they are often essentialized as embodying completely different values.But historically speaking, this was not the case. If we go back to the very start of modern China, China during the Republican era used to be viewed very favorably and Russia was viewed as a one of the “white European power”, essentially as “one of us”. Throughout WWI and WWII, because China was one of the allied powers, public opinion towards China was very favorable. Many Americans associated the Chinese with “hardworking”, “brave” etc.But things began to change with the “loss of China” (The Nationalist Party losing the civil war to the Communist Party). When China turned Communist and with the rise of MacCarthyism, China again became the enemy, with Americans associating China with “treacherous”, “filthy” etc. But with the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between China and the U.S. in the Nixon era, opinion against China turned favorable again.Similar explanations can be applied to other countries’ perceptions towards China, Russia/Vietnam. Political situation, radicalized prejudice, competition on an international level all play a role.A good book to recommend on this is Harold R. Isaacs “Scratches on our mind”.
Why were the Nazis prejudice against the Jews?
Hitler needed a way to inspire a country in an economic depression. So he used the ultimate weapon in human self-esteem, the compliment: he said something equivalent to "it's not your fault, you (the Germans) are redeemed" and added "it's the people who look least like you and seem least familiar to you, the Jews, who have rightly been persecuted throughout history, who are our problem". So why did he pick the Jews not another race? 1. The Jews were, in general, relatives rich compared to the rest of the population. Hitler turned this around into "they must be rich b/c they are stealing our money...and making us poor". Coincidentally, it follows that he may have been scared of the intellectual and economic competition coming from a group known through history to be hardworking and often wealthy as a result. 2. The Aryan race idea...Jews are far from typical looking while blond haired, blue eyed has long been a stereotype of beauty in Europe and America. This is similar to the concept of racism/slavery, which says blacks are "monkey men" describing their "odd" looks. Hey, even today, we take "ugly/weird" looking people and call them stalkers/criminals...humans have a bad habit of thinking only "beautiful" means "good". 3. Stemming from the fact is the idea "Jews are not human"...this is also related to black slavery in which blacks are seen as animals (and, often, only fit to do the work of animals). Just as blacks were blasted with water-hoses back in the days of the Harlem Revolution, Jews were chained and "herded" at work camps. 4. Jews were fairly prominent in Germany, but not nearly prominent enough to be a majority. Adolf couldn't start killing Islamic people in Germany, for example, because there weren't enough to convince people he was "cleansing" enough of the population by getting rid of them...he couldn't pick Christians because then he'd lose a majority of the vote that got him to be chancellor. So he chose the Jews as a middle ground. 5. Jews have been oppressed throughout history, going back to the days of Egypt and the plagues. So it follows Hitler could make they argument "look at how these civilizations succeeded by getting rid of them" and make it look legit.
Is Affirmative Action Really Necessary?
The original idea of affirmative action was to create favoritism for minorities for a limited time. This was the beginning of "getting even" in civil rights. Today, you can not find a liberal who will agree, affirmative action should ever end. Getting even is the direction of civil rights. Dr King's message was to forgive, to heal wounds and unite the races. Well, once liberals got a taste of "getting even", they decided they wanted to make it last forever. Liberals placed false leaders to lead civil rights, with an agreement, liberals will condone the wrong doings of Jackson and Sharpton while the race baiters will support socialism and every cause of every selfish interest group, who are aligned with liberals. The corruption took root like putting on the ring in "Lord of the Rings", once liberals saw the power derived from being the champion of civil rights, they rejected Dr King's message, instead they practice getting even. Liberals do not want racism to disappear, they incite racial conflict as a strategy to gain political power. The bottom line, two wrongs do not make a right. Why can't all people be treated equally?
