The Mechanic Said That My Car Needed A Transmission Test

My car is in the shop for a new transmission, now i am being charged for brake lines.....?

I bet those dumb asses broke your brake line.

Also since when do you need a NEW Tranny for a bad shift solenoid. It's a $30 dollar part

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/2...

Id get a new mechanic.

I'm sure you will get charged for it, but I would argue with them to give it to you for free since they didn't call in advance. (The squeaky wheel get's the grease)

Can a car with a bad transmission still pass a smog test?

transmission doesn't have anything to do with smog or exhaust.... so, if it's bad it should pass a SMOG test......

but....................

it may not pass INSPECTION....... and if the check engine light is on, it will not pass inspection either...

smog test and inspection are 2 different things, but are done at the same time...

if the check engine light is on it wont pass.. if it's off it may pass.... but it depends upon HOW messed up your transmission is.

what we DONT know is what year your car is. transmission work costs THOUSANDS.... if your car isn't worth much, you may just need to sell it and buy another...........

we also don't know if you have a manual or auto transmission.. i'll put it this way. to replace the clutch in a manual transmission car is USUALLY 1500-2500 USD... so.... if you car isn't WORTH that amount, then junk it out and buy one for a few hundred bucks that WILL pass the tests....

Should I ask for a refund when the transmission mechanic fails to repair my car. what should i do?

Assuming that you have a repair order stating what work was to be performed, you have a case.
Furthermore, the valve body is part of the rebuild.
Your best avenue to pursue at this point is to take your car to another shop & have it checked out again, & get a written estimate from that shop. You will most likely have to pay for this, but you can add it on to the price when you take the first guy to small claims court.
That's right, small claims court. Make sure that the second shop you go to is ASE certified.
If the first guy tries to contact you to "make things right", tell him that he had his chance. If he calls you again, tell him that you're going to file a harassment charge against him if he calls you again.
It only costs about 25.00 in most places to file a small claims complaint, & you do'nt need a lawyer, just make sure that you have ALL of your paperwork in reguards to the repair in order when you go.
If the other guy does'nt show, you win automatically, & there will be a judgement against him messing up his credit.
Hope this was helpful, good luck.

How did my mechanic affect my transmission/timing belt?

I recently had a friend fix an oil leak on my '98 Nissan Sentra. The leak affected the timing chain, which splattered oil all over parts of the engine and alternator. He did a great job cleaning it up, but now my car seems too slow when it changes gears and I have to almost slam on the gas to make it go. Could working with the timing chain affect the way my transmission works or could this problem have been caused by anything to do with the timing chain?

Is buying a transmission on Ebay a good idea?

Not a good idea !
Best to call local shops for price on rebuild,
and salvage yards for price on a used transmission !
After several on each........
Compare and make choice !
