THE RELEASE OF NANAVATIAfter many rallies from the Parsis (supporting Nanavati’s release) & the Sindhi’s supporting the punishment decision for Nanavati, a pardon letter was filed after three years by the attorney of Nanavati. This letter was filed to the then Governor of Maharastra state, Ms. Vijayalakshmi Pandit who was somehow known to Nanavati as he served her brother, Hon.Prime minister Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru many times.Despite she was not able to accept the appeal seeking the outbreak of the Sindhi community supporting the Ahuja’s sister of Mamie Ahuja. Co-incidentally Ms. Vijayalakshmi received a pardon plea from a Sindhi businessman, Mr. Bhai Pratap; who was into the business of imports and exports and was convicted for misusing his import license.Vijayalakshmi bagged the opportunity and declared that the Sindhi merchant will only get a pardon if Nanavati is pardoned in return. In this way, she stroked a goal in goalpost of both the communities. The Sindhi community looked upon Mamie Ahuja who gave this deal a positive nod and an official acceptance in writing.Bhai Pratap and Nanavati were released on the same day after which Nanavati along with his two children and wife flew to Canada and settled in Toronto.
