The Pre Pre Act Explore

I got a 23 on my ACT/EXPLORE...8th grade?

I got the exact same grade as an 8th grader. (20 Math, 23 Reading, 23 Science, 25 English) =)

My predicted ACT score range with that 23 was 24-28, which is about what I would have gotten had I taken the ACT in the 8th grade (and about what you'd get on the ACT if you were to take it now). I'm pretty sure the 8th grade EXPLORE prediction is quite accurate, but I have some suspicious about the 5th grade results... A 23 on the Explore is in the 99th percentile, so congrats to both of us. =) EXPLORE results do help determine high school placement, and if your grades are as good as your PLAN results are, you should be able to get into all Honors classes next year.

Sophomore year, you'll take the PLAN, which will give you a new ACT score range prediction. It will definitely increase from what it is now. I got a 29 (out of 32) on the PLAN, and I took it far less seriously than I did the EXPLORE (b/c the Explore actually does affect HS placement, while the PLAN counts for nothing, really)... just to give you an idea, I started bubbling in C for all the science questions in the end... but my new range was still much higher: 30-33. Most likely, your final ACT score will be even higher, because your predicted range is without preparation, and most people do some sort of preparation. =)

*PLAN is out of 32; EXPLORE is out of 25

Is it normal 2 experiment sexually at 9 with same sex? My understanding - exploring sexuality,doesnt act gay.?

I've read a few things about children experimenting, but he is grossed out about being gay. Apparently, children explore their sexuality more often with same sex just to understand but does not mean gay. I'm just honoured that he can approach me. I already told him dangers and certainly am not advocating this. Too much media, adverts & school throwing sex and violence at our children, even supposedly "innocent" games. Rather I encourage him to talk to me or he gets wrong advice from others. Thanks for the comments though. I've in anycase decided no more sleepovers for now, but I don't want to discourage him from talking to me. Thanks for the responses.

Does biology, upbringing and experience pre-determine how all of us will think and act in any given situation or circumstance?

I would argue yes. Because the situation that isn't pre-determined is so rare that it's more a hypothetical scenario than something we're likely to experience in a thousand lifetimes.I am strongly in favor of the concept of tabula rasa, or blank sheet. Ie that we're born without a built-in mental content and favor nurture in the nature versus nurture discussion. But there's no doubt that genetics shape us. Therefore I modified the tabula rasa and conclude that we're all blank sheets but the sheet itself is shaped differently depending on the person.I believe in free will. But like most people I believe in cause and effect. Will is shaped by reactions to the surrounding environment. However humans are not easily predictable because there are too many factors in place to correctly assume which is the deciding factor. Whatever happens to us we can react differently to it disregarding what our predicted reaction would be. This is freedom.I would argue free will is only possible with a deterministic explanation. For if things can happen without cause, how much control can we possibly have on any outcomes?There is no way to prove causality as of yet, but like philosopher Immanuel Kant states causality is a necessity for conscious thoughts. If you argue causality as impossible to prove you rob yourself of any possible course of action. I smoke. I know that it causes cancer. If I were to disregard causality I should never stop, because I can't prove that smoking causes cancer.We humans are complex. Our behaviours are instanced and they are sometimes a mystery to even ourselves. But they are traceable. We can see patterns and we can imagine reasons and explore ways to counter the worst of behaviors by understanding this.Causality is necessary to move forward. Free will lies in the way we uniquely try to navigate between reasons, causes and preferences.

Is it impossible for a pre-op transgendered to be comfortable during sex?

I am sorry if I seem ignorant, on this, but something has been bothering me.
I don't personally know anyone who is transgendered that I know of, so all I know I've got from the internet and TV:
I've seen the storyline about Adam on Degrassi,
the storyline about Jason on Hollyoaks
and the movie "Soldiers Girl" about Calpernia (broke my heart)

Now, my question is, transgenered people feel like the oppesite sex of their biological sex, and are beyond uncomfortable having the wrong body parts... So if they have a relationship, how does that go sexually?
Obviously they can do stuff for their partner, but what if their partner wants to touch them? if it is a MTF transgendered, their partner is bound to touch some of their non-femine parts if they want to satisfy them and the same goes for FTM.

Can a pre-op transgendered person just not have satisfying sex?

In both Degrassi and Hollyoaks, Jason and Adam felt too uncomfortable when their partnes liked their female parts... And in Soldiers Girl, Calpernia didn't want her boyfriend to go near her non-femine parts (though they got past it).

So, no disrespect or anything by asking somethingt this intimate, but I've just wondered :)

How well did my 5th grade son do on his 8th grade level ACT test?

My 11 year old son was asked to take the ACT test by his AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) teacher while in the 5th grade. Since it is a test developed for 8th graders, we had no expectation levels. Now, we want to compare his results with others his age and maybe project future scores on ACT and SAT. We certainly put no pressure on him as he has always only gotten A's in his classes.
The 8th Grade ACT test scores are based on max = 25
Science = 22 (95th percentile)
Mathematics = 19 (90th percentile)
Reading = 19 (88th percentile)
English = 13 (42nd percentile)
~ Usage/Mechanics = 07
~ Rhetorical Skills = 06
Composite score = 18 (82nd percentile)
I think they are great scores. English will come up once he actually takes some English classes as I would think as most 5th graders are still doing mostly grammar and reading comprehension.
I would appreciate any feedback from parents or other students....

Pre-employment drug testing - friend took weed, mushrooms, and LSD - is this a reason to worry?

Hello everybody. My friend recently got a job offer, but they are going to do pre-employment drug testing, and I'm not sure what they are testing for. She took weed about a year ago, and mushrooms and LSD almost 6 months ago. Since then she's been clean of everything except alcohol. She drank just a few days ago at a party. Should she be worrying about these illegal substances showing up on the drug test, and the employment offer being canceled? Or has it been too long?

Is Rice University a good school to study pre-med?

Rice University Central Quad.Rice is a good school to study pre-med for multiple reasons: National reputation. Doing well enhances your chance of getting into well regarded, top tier medical schools. Small size school, small class size, easy to get to know teachers who will write recommendation letters for you, opportunity for undergraduate research, not uncommon to double major, late major declaration deadline etc. No limit class enrollment where a required course may be full. Option to take 4 classes Pass/Fail, allowing you to explore areas that you may not do well without penalty.Texas Medical Center - largest complex in the worldProximity to the Texas Medical Center (largest in the world), Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas Houston Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center (#1 in Cancer) and pioneering research. High acceptance rate to nationally ranked Baylor and UT Southwestern Medical Schools. Favorable chance of acceptance to a medical school in Texas with 11 total (Baylor, Texas A&M, U Texas Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Galveston, Rio Grande, Texas Tech, Texas Tech El Paso, and U North Texas). Supportive advising staff and strong premed organization with plenty of opportunities to travel on medical missions etc. Ability to attain leadership roles.Even though Rice is a small school, it is overrepresented in the Texas Medical Center. Many attendings you interview came from Rice. Many like myself, also volunteer as mentors.Although it has been a while since I graduated, at that time 100% of students at Rice who applied to medical school got accepted. This included engineering students with 3.0 GPA etc.I double majored(Biology and Biochemistry), which was not uncommon, and was well prepared for the MCAT and medical school basic science classes.Rice is consistently ranked #1 in student satisfaction and justifiably so.(Although very competitive, admitted students can apply for the 6 positions in the combined Rice/Baylor program. While there are about 35 such combined programs in the country, many of which are less well known public schools, the Rice/Baylor is regarded among the top three (Brown, and Northwestern being the other two). I know of two students attending Harvard and Stanford who did not get accepted into the Rice/Baylor combined program).
