The State Governments Served As Models For Which Aspects Of The Government Proposed By The

How did rome model for democratic governments?

They really didn't as far as I know. I didn't live back then of course, but I believe they were trying to be a free republic ran by the people...Of course like America today they became very corrupt, and eventually collapsed... The Greeks had a better understanding of a democratic government and it is said they invented democracy.

Which country's system of government is based on the U.S. model?

What US government programs serve as models that other government programs successfully follow?

The best answers occur at the state and local levels.  States and municipalities have been called the nation's laboratories of innovation, for good reason.  Ideas such as the income tax were tried and expanded among states before they were adopted nationally.  The same is true more recently for ideas such as welfare reform.  At the municipal level, attendees at the conferences of mayors typically work across party lines to share best practices.  This is how the "broken windows" policing model spread from New York City (where crime has dropped 80% from peak) to other cities (which have since seen significant drops in crime, albeit not as large as in NYC).  Probably the hottest topics today relate to innovations such as those that were pioneered by late mayor Tom Menino of Boston and former mayor Mike Bloomberg of New York.  Both leaders pioneered the collection, synthesis, and dissemination of data to public managers and to the general public to increase the responsiveness of government to resident needs.  That broad principle has been applied to policing, fire and rescue response, school performance, and fiscal sustainability.

What countries have governments modeled after the US's?

Easily the closest is Liberia. Liberia was established by American Abolitionists as a place for freed slaves to live in freedom. The Liberian constitution is directly based on the American constitution, their flag is based on the American flag and their capital is called Monrovia after US president James Monroe.Liberian flagWhat’s weird is that when these freed slaves arrived in Liberia they copied the US closely that they even brought American style slavery with them and enslaved the native Africans. There’s still racial tensions today between the descendants of the African Americans and the native Africans in the countries. Good ol’ American culture.

What kind of government was established after the American Revolution?

The first government of the original thirteen colonies was established by the Articles of Confederation, under which there was a Congress but no president and no judiciary.  The result was that each colony had these powers:1 To declare war and make peace.2 To coin and borrow money3 To detail with foreign countries and sign treaties4 To operate post officesThe flip side, however, was that:1 The national government could not force the states to obey its laws.2 It did not have the power to tax3 It did not have the power to enforce laws4 Congress lacked strong and steady leadership5 There was no national army or navy6 There was no system of national courts7 Each state could issue its own paper money8 Each state could put tariffs on trade between states. When I hear politicians say that the founding fathers believed in a weak federal government, I want to ask them if they made a habit of sleeping through American history class.  First, the founding fathers who drafted the Constitution did not think, write, and vote as a solid bloc.  Abolitionists who wanted to outlaw slavery didn't get their way, and Southern states who wanted slaves counted as persons in the census wound up with only the so-called three-fifths compromise.   The bicameral Congress is another compromise.  It means that small states who didn't want to be outnumbered by the larger states have a Senate which has two members from each state regardless of population; and that large states have a House of Representatives which allots members to states according to population.  And so on.Second, the founding fathers tried a weak federal government with the Articles of Confederation.  The Articles proved so unworkable that a mere six years after they were ratified, the Constitutional Convention was held.  The delegates tried at first to merely revise the Articles, but they gave this up and began to write the Constitution instead.

Polybius and Roman government?

Polybius describes Roman government as being an ideal mix of Monarchy, Oligarchy, and Democracy. The Greeks had another classification for government, called "Timocracy," which was driven by aristocratic competition for honors. Why might this be a better model for understanding the Republic than those Polybius proposes?
