What are the genres of the book "the pearl" by John Steinbeck?

It is a parable, which can be defined as a story that uses characters to teach a moral to its readers. While the story in The Pearl is fundamentally about a man, his wife, and their baby trying to make it in the world, it is really about greed, covetousness, and what riches can do to a family. In other words, it teaches that money (or a pearl which can sell for a lot of money, in this case) is the root of all evil. The family was happy enough in their little hut, making do with what they had. The second the man finds that huge pearl, it's all turned upside-down. Suddenly, his friends don't want anything to do with him, he's afraid to leave the pearl alone in the house, and it becomes the central focus of his life.

What music genres were popular in the 70's?

I think this question illuminates the difficulty of looking at things through the lens of a random start and finish to a decade. But since we like to do it anyway I would say that the 70’s encompass one of the widest varieties of genres of any single decade. It amazes me to think of the various genres that started in the 70’s. There was the ending of widespread psychedelic rock, the continuation anf maturation of folk rock, protest bands, hard rock. Seems to me hard rock continued to split into heavy metal. Progressive rock sprang up. Mainstream icon rockers and songwriters like Elton John, the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen Billy Joel and others were popular. Towards the end of the decade punk rock (which had been brewing a while) became popular. Reggae, underground rock (Lou Reed, Iggy Pop), funk, electronic and others were popular. I don’t know as much about R&B but there were huge changes there too. New Wave hit with Talking Heads, Blondie, B-52’s, etc. if you compare the music throughout the decade it’s pretty amazing how many genres had strong followings. I didn’t mention a lot of individual bands and artists because there are just too many to mention.

What was the most popular music for each decade? (1900-1909, 1910-1919, etc.)

There's a site called The World's Music Charts that can be used to answer this question.  It uses a combination of Billboard charts, foreign country charts, platinum album awards, back catalog sales, and critical acclaim to determine what are the most popular songs and albums for every year of the 20th century.  Here's what it lists as the popular song and albums for each decade.  Please note that albums we're not really sold in any major quantity until the 1950s.1900s: John Philip Sousa, Stars and Stripes Forever1910s: the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Tiger Rag1920s: Al Jolson, Swanee1930s: Judy Garland, Over the Rainbow1940s: Bing Crosby, White Christmas1950s: Bill Haley & the Comets, Rock Around the Clock (song)1950s: Miles Davis, Kind of Blue (album)1960s: The Rolling Stones, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (song)1960s: The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (album)1970s: The Bee Gees, Staying Alive (song)1970s: Simon & Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water (album)1980s: Pink Floyd, Another Brick in the Wall (song)1980s: Michael Jackson, Thriller (album)1990s: Bryan Adams, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You (song)1990s: Alanis Morissette, Jagged Little Pill (album)2000s: Eminem, Lose Yourself (song)2000s: Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP (album)I believe Miles Davis, Kind of Blue became more popular over the long term than it did in the 1950s exclusively.  If you are looking for a 1950s album that was exceedingly popular in its own time, you could pick the #2 album on the 1950s list, Frank Sinatra's Songs for Swingin' Lovers.
