The Witcher 2 Questions Part 1/2

Are all The Witcher games connected to each other? Can I start playing The Witcher 2 skipping the The Witcher 1?

I never played Witcher 1. When it came out, my computer simply couldn’t handle it, and after my computer could, it was just too dated of a game to thoroughly enjoy.I really liked Witcher 2, it was a fun game.I thoroughly enjoyed everything about Witcher 3, it was an amazing game!!!As I played through these games, I felt like there was something I’m missing from the story because I didn’t play the first game, but then, our hero lost his memory between the first game and second one, so in a way, maybe not playing the first game amplified my experience. While our hero was confused about what was happening, I was also legitimately confused. I could relate to him better because I learned the story as he rediscovered his own story. I feel like at this point, I have a pretty good grasp of the overall story, even without playing the first game. That said, Witcher 1 really is tedious to play, IMHO. You can get it on sale for less than $5, so give it a try, maybe you’ll like it, but I just couldn’t get past all the quirky game mechanics.Witcher 2 still holds up pretty well. The graphics were nice, the game mechanics were mostly pretty smooth, and the story was amazing. I’d recommend starting here.Witcher 3 is a legitimate masterpiece. It is among the greatest games ever made. I’ve played it through twice, and I’m sure I’ll play through it again. Anyone who enjoys good story driven games absolutely owes it to themselves to play this one at least.

Question about The Witcher 2?

Does using the Quen sign cause you to deal less damage to enemies? It doesn't say that it does, but I'm trying to do a boss fight (the dragon in Chapter 3) and I'm using Quen so it's attacks don't damage me as much, but I am barely doing any damage. is this because of Quen? or is it just EXTREMELY strong?

Should i play first witcher 1 and 2 before 3 ?

I would highly recommend you play through at least witcher 2. Its an excellent game and it will help you to understand the world more. You can skip witcher 1, its not really that relevant, and the controls and gameplay is really hard to get used to, its very clunky and not very fun.

Are the Witcher 1 and 2 required to enjoy the Witcher 3?

The Witcher 3 doesn't have many references to the first two entries in the game series. Instead, the game is more of a continuation of the book series. I enjoyed The Witcher 3 without having read the stories, but now that I have read the first three books after finishing the game, I understand the characters and their motivations a bit better. In short: Playing Witcher 1 and 2 is absolutely not necessary, but reading some of the stories may be useful. Some book spoilers below.Recommended reading:Short stories from The Last Wish:"The Lesser Evil" - Gives you some insight on Geralt's morality as well as his nickname 'the Butcher of Blaviken'. (Edit: Also adds context to the Blood and Wine expansion.)"A Matter of Price" - The first chapter in the Ciri saga."The Last Wish" - Introduces Yennefer of Vengerberg.Short stories from Sword of Destiny:"The Sword of Destiny" - The second chapter in the Ciri saga."Something More" - The third chapter in the Ciri saga.Note: For understanding the game, these short stories should suffice, but it's only later in the novels that Ciri's true parentage is revealed.
