because its global, and its like a village

How has technology turned the world into a global village?

“How has technology turned the world into a global village?”Quora, the internet, transportation, communications, etc. These are all ways that the global village has come together. The transportation of goods across the globe is easy these days. You can ship an item anywhere in the world in just a few days. That’s handled by computers, communication, people, transporters such as ships and planes and vans and trucks. Something coming from Europe and heading towards Asia might go through several different countries using a variety of different transportation methods and touched by people of all different races and religions and genders. The worlds economy is so tied together that if anything at all disrupted this process in a serious way, the global economy would freeze and halt. That would be very bad.The internet is the communications hub now. We, as a species, are becoming so connected via this hub that traditional forms of communication are falling away. When is the last time you received a personal written letter from another person. Quora is a perfect example of that. The global village is getting more tight knit everyday.

How has the world become a global village please give me points.what isnt good about it etc.?

Global village is a term coined by Wyndham Lewis in his book America and Cosmic Man (1948). However, Herbert Marshall McLuhan also wrote about this term in his book The Gutenberg Galaxy: The Making of Typographic Man (1962). His book describes how electronic mass media collapse space and time barriers in human communication, enabling people to interact and live on a global scale. In this sense, the globe has been turned into a village by the electronic mass media.

Today, the global village is mostly used as a metaphor to describe the Internet and World Wide Web

People can see each other, chat and talk as if they are physically present. As far as communication and the dissemination of information is concern distance is not a concern. News travels so fast as if we are all living together in one small village. Hence, the statement that the world has become a global village is true.

Technological advancement in the developed and developing world has not spread to the underdeveloped countries. People in the underdeveloped countries are worried about their survival. Basic necessities like food, water and shelter are the top most priority in these places. In this regard the statement that the world has become a global village is not true. In some parts of the world electricity is not there even today. Internet, television and latest technological developments have not reached people in these remote places.

Good Essay on the subject

Then there is the fact that not all people in first world countries are interested in learning computer technology. Although there are many older people who show a lot of interest, and are adept at internet use, there are many others who could not care less. My own parents, Aunts and Uncle's, all long since retired, have no interest whatsoever.

5 factors which have helped to create a "Global village" and provde an example of each?

communication, transport, tourism, interdependence and uneven growth of population. fast communication facilities like internet and phone have brought people closer. similarly faster means of transport have brought people closer. the spread of tourism has helped people know each other and there is cultural intermingling. no country is self dependent. so need for dependence on each other brings people of different countries closer. some countries like india and china have more population particularly consisting of young citizens whereas others are under populated. this needs shifting of people from over populated zones to the under populated zones. thus needs of all countries are met. all these have contributed to the concept of global village.

Do you think the world would be better off if we were all Amish?

Well, yes, to answer your question, the world would more likely be a better place - I lived and worked with the Amish in Pa. and they are wonderful people and make excellent neighbors. They also have a wonderful sense of humor and when they needed a ride to the hospital they did not hesitate to call on me for a ride in my car... there are many off shoots and different branches and beliefs amongst the community as to what is permissable... and as to being better off mentally as well as environmentally, to spend an evening sitting in a home with no hum of electric and the lovely calm glow of a gas lamp, well, it imbues an all is right with the world feeling of serenity...

I need History help badly! I left my book at home and i need this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Should we teach science subjects in Yoruba & other languages as an alternative for none English speakers in Nigeria? What are the advantages?

Previously, I’d have said yes, but now I’d say no; it no longer makes any sense to me. Teaching sciences in a local dialect have more disadvantages than advantages. It is more of a disadvantage because of the following reasons:Not many countries speak Nigerian languages. There are not many countries that speak Nigerian languages, even in Africa. The world has become a global village; studying across countries should be not inhibited because of language barriers. That’s the idea behind WAEC.Studying abroad will be more challenging (see #1 above). Students in Nigeria will first have to learn the language of instruction if they wish to study in another country. There are several countries teaching in English already, which means they have several options. Even non-English speaking countries have courses that are taught in English.Fitting into international work environment will be more challenging. Teaching our students in local dialects simply means we are locking their job opportunities to Nigeria. To work outside the country, they’ll have to face the difficulty of learning a new language of communication at work. The time and resources required to translate science textbooks to Nigerian languages is not a good investment. Instead of spending time and resources to create science textbooks in our local language, let’s spend the same time and resources on our ill-equipped libraries. Many children/youths of this generation cannot speak their local dialects fluently, talk more of writing it. We now have parents who cannot even speak their local dialect. We will only be pumping our own ego, which will eventually burst. Apart from the fact that it makes the students fluent in the local dialect, what other good does it do?It will further divide Nigeria. Teaching sciences in local dialects will only make cross cultural schooling difficult. The country’s intellectuals will not mix with each other - since Adamu who is from Kano and learnt sciences in Hausa cannot pursue an advanced degree in Ibadan or Enugu.Instead, let’s keep teaching Nigerian languages in schools. We can organize extra-curricular activities (e.g. debates, essays) around these languages.

What are the disadvantages of globalisation, if any?

Increased income and wealth disparity. Globalization means that everyone will be set on the same stage, and naturally having more people means that there are more income and wealth disparity. If you have 10,000,000 people, the distance between the richest person and the poorest is likely to be larger than if you have 10,000. Now, globalization means that it’s likely that the richest person and the poorest person actually can live in the same country, and this creates domestic problemsRelated to above note, intense competition. With technology enabling people to work across long distance, in some industries people are starting to compete not in the local arena, but on a global arena. A software developer may not be competing with people living in the same area in skill and cost, but also competing with people living in India. It means that just being the best in the class is no longer enough, you need to be the best in the world, and the person who stole your job is not going to be some guy in your city, but some dude on the other side of the earth. This creates a lot of anxiety, especially while jobs and income can be globalized, cost of living cannot (yet), so it is difficult to live in NY but trying to compete against people in India earning an Indian wageExport of pollution. Modern day technology does decrease pollution, but most of the cleaning up we see is the result of these pollution gets exported. Does manufacturing certain goods create pollution? Just buy these finished goods from China or Vietnam, and let those guys pollute their country. In the short term, it hides pollution where you can’t see them, but in the long run it doesn’t work. We live on the same earth, and pollutants can and do travel. Even if they don’t, there are global effects on pollution such as global warming.
