Theft Under $50 What Do I Do Next

I've been charged with theft under $100?

Theft under $100 is the lowest possible form of theft in Maryland. Now having been a store detective in the past, I can tell you that people with no priors who don't flee or fight the arresting detective never see jail. Most common is fine and probation, possibly community service. How much? No way I can tell you. It's up to the judge.

Expungment is depends on some very specific factors, so take note: If you plead (or are found) guilty or No Contest, you CANNOT get it expunged. Ever. You may petition the governor for a pardon in 10 years, but that is a long shot

The only chance you will have of expungement is if you get the following:
Nolle prosequi: The store or the court drops the charge before trial. With most stores, Not gonna happen.
Acquittal: You plead not guilty and the court finds you innocent of the theft. Your story seems to suggest this is not bloody likely as you were caught red-handed.
Stet: The case does not seem worth the prosecutor's time, so he delays having a trial and will likely not bother. You can expunged in 3 years. But again, not very likely.
Probation Before Judgment: A unique ruling in Maryland where you do not get found guilty, but you still get probation and fined. Once the probation is up and 3 years have passed, you can get it expunged. This is possible, but not guaranteed. Your lawyer may be able to negotiate this with the judge or SA.

What is the class for theft under $50 in texas?

Class C misdemeanor.

What does cmp/theft under 50$ mean?

Theft under 50$ means that the item stolen is valued at less than $50.

cmp could mean a lot of things. The three I think are the most likely are Current Market Price / Canadian Mounted Police / corrugated metal pipe.

You aren't Hank Hill and stole $50 worth of corrugated metal pipe by any chance?

Texas; Theft $50-$100?

You say you have never been in trouble before, so I will comment under that criteria. You were charged with Theft over $50.00 but under $500.00, which is a Class B Misdemeanor in Texas. The maximum penalty is 6 months in the county jail and/or a fine.of $2,000.00. You also have to realize that in Texas you are an adult at 17 when it comes to culpability for criminal offenses. So you now have a criminal record as an adult, it does not go away at 18. What is sealed at 18 is your juvenile record, which is any offenses committed before you turned 17. Texas is confusing because you are not an adult until you are 18 under the Texas Family Code, which deals with the responsibility of parents.

Your jurisdiction should have some sort of first offender program to defer the charges. You should ask you lawyer to arrange this on your behalf. What happens is the judge defers the charge after a period of time based on your conduct. This does not count as a conviction, but some employers frown on deferred charges because a plea of guilty is required to obtained this service. This is all something you need to sit down and discuss with your attorney.

Also discuss with you attorney how long you have to wait after the case is finalized to have the charges "expunged" from your record. This will remove the offense in the event of a background check. Good luck and I hope you learned something positive from this experience.

Can my employer press charges for theft?

If your employer actually has evidence of you doing what you said, he can make a complaint to the Police. They will charge you.it is called larceny as a servant. If is regarded very seriously by society, particularly if you are in a position of trust. It is not uncommon for a Magistrate or a Judge to pass a full-time sentence of imprisonment in respect of this type of larceny [stealing]. I doubt you would be locked up for $900, but it is stI'll regarded serioulsy. The court will also make an order that you reimburse the employer.there are other social ramifications because even in 2017 trust is so important. You will have difficulty obtaining employment; no one likes the idea of working with a ‘theif’….and it’s not discrimination.so, if you have the opportunity to pay and avoid all of these problems, for $900, take it. You will never get a better offer.

Does theft go on your permanent record?

Okay...
this is what happend to me:
When I was 17 I got arrested for shoplifting from JcPenny and had to go to the jail, get fingerprinted, and got picked up by my mother.
The stuff I was taking totaled around 72 dollars.
I had to pay JcPenny a 300 dollar fine. and I had to take a shoplifting class for 20 dollars and it only was a one time thing and only lasted about an hour.
I never went to court, and it was never put on my record at all.

Will you get locked up for theft under 50 dollars? What happens if your record is clean?

You will still have a record of conviction for theft, but you will only get a fine. I am not sure where you are, but a small amount like that is most likely just a minor misdemeanor.
I know that theft of less than $50 (or $20 if theft is by hot check) is a Class-C Misdemeanor in Texas. A Class-C Misdemeanor penalty is a fine only, up to $500.00.

Petty Theft Misdemeanor; terrified...?

So yeah, rather not say what or why I stole what I stole but I did and it was under $10.
The cops showed, charged me with petty theft misdemeanor and let me go on the spot.
I have a court date on the 30th and after some reading I am now freaking out cause all I'm seeing is "1-6months in jail". My friends tell me I may just get community service and probation but honestly? I'm not that lucky of a guy, at all so now I'm seriously terrified. It's my first offense, never been in court or arrested.. My record is squeaky clean. Life JUST started to work out for me, I signed up for college, got a place with a friend which we rent and I started to become more happy then I do something stupid and now it's all going to be ****** up. Some of you might say "6months won't be that bad" but for me and my situation.. It would be because well, I'd have nothing and I'm an emotional individual so I guess... Emotionally I'd be a wreck and with no where to stay (That I know of). I am completely scared, okay, down right terrified. I started crying last night to a friend who said I needed to relax. I feel like the moment I go to court I'll start breaking down even though I shouldn't. I don't what to do or what will happen but all I can say is.. Suicide seems so much better than 1+ months in jail....... I have considered it cause I don't think I can handle it. I have dealt with suicide before and just as I started to get over it this happens and everyday I'm shaken with nerves...

If someone commits petty theft (shoplifting <$50) in another town, do police still try to track them down?

My partner was charged was charged with a first degree misdemeanor for stealing paint in the amount of $52.50. In Ohio, there is no classification of a petty theft. Theft under a certain amount Is theft. Greater than a certain amount upgrades it to a felony. Stealing one penny is a first degree misdemeanor. He moved to the northern part of the state and a warrant was issued. The police never came looking for him. Anytime he got pulled over, the police called the other city and they refused to get him. If it were a felony, im sure it would be much different. So a cop probably wouldn't be knocking down your door, but get pulled over and they will call the other city.
