Wedding Titles? Reponsibilities, Importance?
Maid of honor, Matron of honor (a title you get if married), bridesmaids. Best Man, groomsmen, ushers. Flower girl, ring bearer. ANYTHING ELSE is a title someone made up along the way to give to someone so they could get the warm fuzzies for being asked to participate. The Best Woman thing was probably made up when some guy wanted his sister to stand up on his side of the wedding and do what the Best Man usually does if he would have had one. There is no such thing as Mother/Father of importance, they are your mother/father, they are obviously already important, they don't need a title beyond Mother/Father of the bride/groom. Also, shame on that friend who called "dibs". You can't call dibs, and the friend who is getting married is a doormat for letting her ACTUALLY call it and not setting her straight. The ONLY actual job of ANY member of the wedding party is to turn up on time in the right attire. Sure the Maid of Honor and Best Man are usually the ones signing the license but that's really the only difference. ANYTHING ELSE that ANYONE does is entirely voluntary.
