Thinking About College Cheer

Women.....Do you think College Cheerleaders wear too revealing, sexy outfits?

No

Cheerleaders almost always have pretty revealing uniforms, but they stay shy of the line you don't want her crossing. They are sexy, yet a non-uniform cut from other cloth to the same patterns would be acceptable, if barely, at a fair-sized picnic.

The ones that are called cheerleaders but even themselves use the word "dancer" whenever they can (pro team squads, for instance) are the ones that wear "sexy" outfits that are too little. Mind you, I think so because they are past the pale for acceptable wear in casual but polite society (yet they actually cover things I want to see). Since they really pass no test of acceptability, it just annoys me to see those things emphasized but, in the end, the most interesting little bits of those places successfully covered. That pretty much seems to me to be past the pale of too revealing.

Think about it though. When she was 6, if you'd seen her in the uniform cut clothes, just made of a light, flowing material, you'd've grabbed a camera and gotten a treasure of a picture with a killer smile. But you would just have been horrified and shocked to see her come into the room wearing a "dancer's" outfit style whether in different materials or not.

Honestly though, I'm a pig. I absolutely love an athletic female body! I wish they dressed the male cheerleaders in Tuxedos and Nazi greatcoats and the female cheerleaders just wore shoes. (Sigh) Another wonderful future world that we just can't find our way to...

College Cheerleading Questions..?

You're a freshmen. You have all the time in the world to get your skills up, and I'm going to tell you now that you gotta work your butt off if you want to cheer in college. I cheer at The University of Kentucky. We compete against Alabama, they are a really good squad with loads of talent to the point where there is almost absolutely no chance of someone with no experience making that team. College cheer is for the big dogs who are very serious about cheering. If you are up for it, I will be more than willing to help your dreams come true of becoming a college cheerleader.

You are a great height for a flier. 5'6" is a pretty average size for a coed flier at a collegiate level. You can't just be short; you have to be short and built. So, start working out whenever you can. Work on your leg muscles and core. The stronger the girl, the better the flier she can be. Being up there on a guys' arm isn't the easy thing, I'm telling you from my experiences with it.

Go to that gym where the college is practicing. Let them know that you want to cheer in college. There will be a guy there who will be more than willing to teach you how to stunt. You're also taking tumbling classes, which is good. Not only do you need a standing tuck, but you need a running full. You should be able to get that with four years of tumbling.

Back to coed stunting: Practice standing up in your room and just squeezing the heck out of your body. Squeeze your butt, legs, arms, chest, etc. The tighter you are as a flier, the easier it will be on the guy. However, squeezing on the ground does not constitute squeezing in a guys hands, it's different. You wanna be able to do a toss cupie and possible a full-up heel stretch. You also want to be able to double down from heel stretches. Depending on the school you want to go to, depends on if you will need a scorpions or not. Alabama is a UCA squad, so heel stretches will do just fine. Work on that flexibility, girl!

I cheer in college, it's fun and hard work at the same time. But you can do it! Remember, do not give up on yourself and that cheerleading skills do not come over night. You have to WANT it and FIGHT for it. If you have ANY more questions, just send me an E-Mail by simply clicking on my page.

Is cheerleading in college worth it?

Cheering in college can be a great experience... or it can be a not-so-great one. I know girls who've cheered in college and loved it, and others who absolutely hated it. Your experience will depend on a lot of different factors, including your personality, your energy level, your ability to juggle school and cheer, and the atmosphere and personality of your school's cheer squad.

Some of the benefits of college cheer: You'll immediately be part of a team and will have an instant supply of potential friends who share your same interests. You'll likely be housed with the other cheerleaders, so your roommate(s) will have the same schedule and activities that you have. And of course you'll be a big part of your school's sports scene and all the excitement that goes with that. Best of all, college cheer squads tend not to have the drama that high school squads have, because people are more mature and, for the most part, beyond all that by the time they get to college.

Some of the drawbacks: College cheer can be extremely time consuming, especially if your squad travels and/or competes. It can be a real challenge juggling your studies, practices and games. Also, you'll probably have games and other events during school holidays, which may prevent you from going home as often as you might like. Also, schools with big sports programs usually have pretty advanced cheer squads, so the requirements for making the squad - and staying on it - can be pretty tough.

It has lots of information about the tryout requirements, squad activities and time commitments for many different colleges. Not every school is listed, but it will give you a pretty good idea of whats involved at various schools.

Good luck!

College Cheerleading, no experience?

Okay, I'm a senior in high school. and I've always secretly wanted to be a cheerleader. But I never tried out (couldn't make the practices, missed the try outs, the girls are like the movies lol, etc) So i was thinking of trying out in college. I have no actual cheering experience but I did dance for 13 years, so I can defintiely pick up choreography and I'm fairly confident I could dance and be a base (I definitely weigh to much to be a flyer) But like I said I have no actual experience. I've watched videos and cheer competitions and I feel like I could do the dances. Do you think that If I did gymnastics over the summer and trained so I could at least do basic tumbling I have a shot in college as a freshman? Like would it be worth trying out? Just wondering. Thanks!

Should i start cheer leading or join a sorority in college?

Well first off, to become a cheerleader in college it would be wise to have prior experience, like in H.S. It will be difficult to make the college squad if you are not up to par with the rest of the girls. There will be try-outs that will determine if you are right for the squad. So, if you want to do cheerleading in college, I advise you to try out for your HS team, since you have not done it before, it will be wise to try out to see if its right for you. I know sororities can be a really great way to make friends for life and a great source of networking. I just transfered to san diego state and i am planning on joining a sorority once school starts. But they have this thing called "rush". So go to that to see if you even like any of the girls or sororities. Because they may not be for you. There are hundreds of ways to make friends and get involved in college w/o having to pay high member fees for sororities, so go over all your options, like clubs etc., before you get initiated into a sorority. Hope this helps!

(cheerleaders only)ok. so im thinking of trying out for cheer but..?

I was going to do cheer last year and his year, but I can't afford it because it's 1100 dollars per year. I tried to save up for it and I got about 700, and my family has bad financial problems so I just didn't join. I found that I didn't want to waste my hard-earned money on cheer. Instead I almost have enough to buy a car (used of course, but a car is a car). Highschool can still be a awesome without being in cheer, go out for volleyball (like me! =D!!) It was more affordable and I still had a great time.
