Thinking Of Getting Invisalign Because I Hardly Ever Wore My Retainer

I haven't worn my retainer in 6 months and just started wearing it again 2 weeks ago. It fits, but the retainer wire is low on the front teeth and the bottom retainer is slightly crooked. It still fits, but is it bad to wear? Or will it still help?

Your teeth have started shifting back to their original position before your braces. As long as your retainers will still fit in, they will cause you discomfort, however, they will move your teeth back to your post braces position. You need to wear them every night for at least a year and it doesn't hurt you to keep wearing them 2 or 3 nights a week even after that. Our teeth naturally shift to the midline or to the middle o our faces, so continuing to wear your retainer will keep your teeth where they were post braces. You can take ibuprofen or Motrin, which is best for discomfort

Getting Invisalign Tomorrow?

Hi I'm in my 5th week of it, it's great, to answer your questions,

It takes a few minutes or seconds of fiddling to get them on and off in your first day or two, then if you where them properly like 22 hours a day, in 3 days you will notice how easy they are to take in and out, which is a good sign it shows your teeth are moving. With each new retainer you get the first 1-2 days its a bit stiff getting on and off then by he 3rd day it's so much easier and quicker getting in and out.

On a scale of 1-10 in my first week my first 4 days I got a headache at the end of each day and my teeth hurt only about 2 or 3 out of 10. I have had both bracers and Invisalign and bracers hurt so much more. I thought with each new pair of retainers for the first 3 days my teeth would hurt, but I have had no pain since my very first retainer and I'm about to start my 3rd retainer.

The only other thing you may need to know is your dentist may talk to you about taking of a thin layer of enamel to help your retainers fit better, when that time comes don't be scared they hardly take anything off and it does not hurt, it does feel a bit gross when it happens as it feels like the dentist is flossing your teeth with a metal filer, but seriously it does not hurt. If you have any attachments to be put on your teeth, dont get self conscious to start with i felt like everyone could see it, but no one noticed it, until your mouth gets used to the retainers for the first few days you may think your talking funny but that also goes away. Also it's totally worth it and if you do it properly you get fast results! Good luck! Oh and also after a few days of wearing your retainers a good way to clean it is soaking it in a glass 1/4 white vinegar and 3/4 water. Don't do what I did and soak them for 30 minutes in green listerene mouth wash it almost dyed my retainer green :P

What do you think braces or Invisalign?

Invisalign trays do not turn yellow if you take care of them properly. That means brushing after every meal and snack, avoiding beverages that have color (Gatorade, cranberry, Mountain Dew, etc.), and cleaning them daily with denture cleaner tablets.

Invisalign braces are not for every problem. You need to see an orthodontist for a consultation to see what your options are. And if Invisalign is an option, it is great for adults, not teens.

Why do my teeth shift even though I wear my retainers every night after my braces procedure? What can I do about it?

Your teeth shift even though you wear your retainers every night after getting braces off because of natural pressure of the bone and fibers around you teeth.Orthodontic treatment works to move teeth by:Placing pressure on the muscle and fibers around the teeth on one side…In turn the bone will resorb on the other side.Since the resorbed bone will take a very long time to grown in, there's always going to be movement. The only way to keep the movement to a minimum is to have a bonded retainer placed on your teeth after the braces come off. — For Adults, it is recommended that a permanent retainer stay in place forever if orthodontics were done at an adult age due to the fact that possibilities of shifting are greater due to the adult onset periodontal conditions such as grinding and other bad habits. For more information about retainers and the importance of wearing them, check out our post here: You Have to Wear Your Retainer! – Forever YoungYou can view all our Showcase Cases which include orthodontic patients on our Facebook Page - Case Of The Month. What can you do if it really hurts to wear your retainer?

yeah, me too. i stopped wearing my retainers for about 7 months and i used to wear it religiously day and night. my front teeth shifted forward so i put it back on last night and it HURT LIKE HELL. but i went through it and there is some changes thank god.BUT, i think you're supposed to wear it during the day as well now…

Can I wear my invisalign only at night?

Because the instructions are to wear them 22 hours a day. You are wasting a lot of time and a lot of money by not following the directions. Why are you trying to screw up the treatment. And don't expect to get the new tray next week.

The point of wearing the trays 22 hours is not only to move the teeth, but also to make them stay where they are moved. You need to keep them in place by moving the roots too. When you remove the trays, you are allowing the teeth and roots to go back where they were.

Look, if you are not going to follow the directions, tell your orthodontist. You are wasting his/her time too. And if you are not following the directions now, you aren't going to wear a retainer as directed either. If you paid for Invisalign yourself, you are throwing away your money. If your parents paid, it just proves my theory that teens should not get Invisalign because they won't follow directions.
