This Is A Computer Question What

Computer Question, What kind of memory?

My MIL has 1GB of memory on her computer. I want to add more, how much more can I add?

Also, is there a certain kind of memory I have to buy specific for her computer and how would I found out what this would be?

She has 160 GB hard drive and I was going to give her my external hard drive (100GB) because I bought it 6mths ago and never use it.

Her computer is running mega sow and besides cleaning it up (which I also will be doing), I am hoping all of this will help make it run faster for her. Her computer right now is the slowest computer I have ever seen. I could never have the patience to use it. It takes at least a minute just to open something (whether a program or the internet). She has a ton of junk downloaded on it. I am going delete some of it, however she will still need more memory.

She has a dell inspirion desktop. She bought it 8/2007.

Is it all my fault? (computer question)?

I know this may be kind of a hard question to answer but I'm hoping my info will help a little.

My uncle built my computer for me, I can't afford to buy one. Not until I get a job. Well everyone I know their computers hasn't crashed mine has done it THREE times, I just got it back after five months for the third time. And it already has a few viruses.

My uncle blames this all on me saying it's all the sites I go on and all the stuff I download. I don't go on any different sites than anyone else. I go on myspace, Projecplaylist, youtube, google, mapquest. Stuff like that and it screws me over but everyone else is fine. He told me if I don't go on those sites I'm fine, but what am I supposed to do? That's what I have this computer for, friends and music and for fun. He makes me feel like i'm irresponsible. I scan my computer regularly, I don't download anything that i shouldn't. Unless it's aim or flashplayer, anything that anyone else downloads. I'm careful, to the point where I'm obsessive. But still he claims it's all my fault. No one elses computer that they bought crashes only the ones that he builds for me. He is not an expert, not completley he has been doing this for years but that doesn't make him a full blown expert. I'm not saying those sites can't be dangerous, I know you can get viruses from them, but I watch what I do.

I'm careful, and I'm tired of being blamed! Is it really all my fault or is it just the computers he builds?

Computer question?

This could be a nuymber of things. Since it disappears I'd say it's a program that you are running that updates itself on the internet.

Most commonly your anti-virus software.
Otherwise it could be windows update - if youa re set to do autoupdates.

I am not likely to agree that this is a bad thing. If it were, you'd have other problems. (If it were a virus - you'd see viral related problems; if it was spyware - you'd see ad popups - that don't go away, etc.)

You can try to find out what it is by closing programs that are running to see if it goes away - although closing your anti-virus may not be such a good thing.

You can also get a program such as Hijack This! that will tell you what programs are running on your computer, and where they are called from.

Computer question: what is Macintosh (Mac)? and what is Dell? what is better linux or windows operating system

1. As a long-time PC user (started on a 286, then got a new computer almost every year - used a 386, a 486, a Pentium, a Pentium III, a Pentium IV, and now using a Pentium D), and also more recent Mac user (I've used really old ones as well as newer ones including the iMac G3 and G4), I have found Macs to be excellent. Not just good or better than a PC, but the best computer out there. They're the best system possible, especially for your kind of stuff like Internet and Photos. 2. Macs are much easier than PCs. If a non-computer user asked me which I'd recommend, it would be a Mac because they are easy to get used to and to learn. Since you already are using a computer, it won't be hard to switch. You can transfer any old files over, and the manuals and help included with a Mac are very good. And the user base on the 'net is very big, so if you have any questions you should get answers very fast. And while Macs *are* different than PCs, they are different in a good way. 3. I've used iMac G3s, and I wouldn't recommend them for a first time Apple user. It won't really help you get to know how to use a Mac, since the new Mac OS X is much easier and better than the old OS the G3 runs. It would be like trying out a Windows 3.1 computer to see if you want to buy one that runs XP or Vista - it is outdated and would probably hurt your experience more than help it (unless you're a geek like me who likes to use old systems just to see what they were like). 4. Eh... no.

Custom Build Computer Questions?

Recently my PC broke down and I do not want to spend another $100 to fix it (its been repaired 4 times already this year, 2 times last year, total repair costs are $780).

I was deciding whether to get an new HP when another user brought up the idea of custom building a PC.

My questions are these.

Is it hard to custom build a PC (I have never built a computer).

I want a PC for casual gaming, internet, documents, pictures & music.

Can anyone suggest the parts that I would need if I were to build, or get someone to build a PC for me.

My Budget: Would prefer under $1,200 but no more than $1,400
I am already looking at the following:

Motherboard: NO Idea need suggestions

Can a computer expert answer this question please ?? Easy 10 points !!?

I would not recommend you to disable all/any start ups or services from the msconfig if you are not pretty sure of what you are doing. Its a bit risky for normal users to do changes from there. You might not know what you disable.

To revert back all the changes that you did on startup settings in msconfig. Go to msconfig again, and select Normal Startup on the General Tab.

Though, I would recommend you to download a spyware remover such as "Spybot Search & Destroy v1.6" from http://www.safer-networking.org or some other spyware remover. That might make your PC faster.

Easiest way to speed up your Pc is to clean up your installed programs in your laptop. On Windows XP, click on Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Go to Change and Remove Program, Select the programs which you are sure you are not using, then click Change/Remove button.

What security software or anti virus software that you are using? You can consider changing your Anti virus/ Internet Security software for better speed and still have adequate protection. Some of these software takes too much of your PC resources. As for me, now I'm sticking to Kaspersky.

What OS are you using? You can consider changing your OS to Windows XP if you are using Windows Vista. You can see significant change in speed and Performance. But then, this process maybe a bit cumbersome for you.

You can also do Disk Defragmenter process on your hard disk. it will rearrange your files on your hard disk so accessing files will be faster. I defragment my disk usually around 3-4 times a year. :D. To run Disk Defragment on your Windows XP, go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter. Choose the drive that you want to defrag, and click the Defragment button.

Another option is to fully reformat your PC, and re-install a fresh windows. You can use the supplied recovery disk, or Windows disk that comes a long with your laptop. This process will erase all data in the hard disk, so you will have to backup the important files that you need. Easier way to reformat is to first backup your important files, and then ask for any computer shop to help you to reformat.

Lastly, you may want to consider upgrading your RAM. You can go to any PC shop and check the maximum RAM that your laptop can support.

Good Luck :)

This looks way to big for a dead pixel. It is at least 20 or more pixels big. More looks like screen damage. You should try to feel if the screen on the outside still feels completely smooth so you can be sure nothing happened to it from the outside. (like someone accidentally closed the notebook while a pen was on the keyboard or something) If the screen is damaged on the outside, tough luck, nobody is going to help you with that, cause it will be judged as user damage. (unless you got some kind of all risk insurance on the thing). If the screen is perfectly smooth though, and you still have warranty  on the machine, your dealer should help you, because this kind of damage can in rare cases also arise from the inside. You do not have to proof how it came to arise, they will have to... good luck.
