This is an example of which of the following sampling techniques? HELP?

A chef wants to open a new Italian restaurant. He wishes to find out which kinds of pasta (spaghetti, linguini, or penne) will be the most popular with potential customers.

He hires a polling organization to survey the market. The company builds a telephone survey list by selecting one person at random from the first page of the telephone book, who turns out to be the 123rd person on the page. The company then fills out the list by adding the 123rd person on every page of the book.

C.Simple random sample (SRS)
D.Cluster sample
E. Convenience sample

I think it's E but I wan't to be 100% sure before choosing it.

What are the different kinds of survey sampling techniques?

Sampling is a way to select a group of people or sample to predict the behavior of entire set of population. For example, a researcher may want to know what people think of certain economic reforms undertaken by the government. Here it is not feasible to survey the entire population. Therefore a researcher selects a group of people or sample to generalize the response.Sample is primarily of four types:Simple Random Sampling: Investigator needs to get a list of the population known as sampling frame. For instance if researcher wants to have sample size of 100 out of the population of 5000, he/she will randomly pick up 100 people.Systematic Random Sampling: Consider the previous example. Here first number is important. Along with it the researcher selects an integer serving as constant difference. Researcher first selects one number out of 50. Let’s say it is 21. So, the next number becomes 21+50=71 and third will be 71+50=121 and so on. This goes on till the researcher gets the list of 100 participants.Stratified Sampling: Stratified sampling is used when sampling frame includes variety of categories like different sex, age, income and religion. This leads to varying and different responses across the subgroups. To take the previous example, the researcher needs to draw samples from each of these groups. These subgroups are called ‘strata’ and hence stratified sampling. This is important and useful to collect proportionate stratified samples.Cluster Sampling: For example if a researcher wants to study the cases of Cholera in India, he/she will first divide India into East, West, North and South. Then, select few states randomly from all regions. Divide a state into districts and select a few districts from various regions. Then divide a district into city and villages. Further, randomly select a few villages and cities and then divide a village or city into households and randomly select a few households.

What is a sampling technique in psychology?

There are a few methods used to obtain a sample in psychology. These methods include simple, systematic, stratified, cluster. These methods fall into the probability category. This means that the people selected for the research were randomly chosen and are representative of the population. There are also non probability methods for obtaining a sample. Those methods are non-represented, meaning that the subjects are not ‘randomly’ chosen. For example, there may be criterions introduced that limits who may take a survey if they do not meet the criterion. One sampling technique in psychology is to obtain a simple sample. You select the population you wish to study, and randomly select from that population. For simple sampling, it is important to obtain a decent amount of people in order to get a best representative sample, and to reduce the non sampling error. One of the researcher’s goal is to obtain a best representative sample from a population because they want to generalize their research results to a larger population.

What are sampling techniques in statistics?

The most used sampling methods are Simple Random SamplingStratified SamplingClustered SamplingSystemic SamplingSimple Random Sampling (SRS) is when you randomly choose subjects out of a population of interest. For example, you sample 10% of your total subscribers.Stratified Sampling is when you take SRS samples from subgroups of your population. It is used to control for exogenous variables in the population, that could make results misleading. Ex: Instead of sampling from all corn fields in the US, you could stratify based on soil PH levels, or expected area rainfall. Now, you can see the difference in yields regardless of these other variables, because the corn fields within the subgroups or strata are similar to each other.Clustered Sampling is when you separate the population into subgroups, and sample ALL individuals from a subset of the subgroups. In this method, you are not controlling for variables. Systemic Sampling is when you separate the population into groups in a methodological way (e.g.: you go through a phone book and separate every other individual into a different subgroup).Other common sampling methods that should be avoided if you want any meaningful analysis are voluntary or convenience samples.

The television station KDOG is experimenting with a new format: programming for dogs all the time. It hires a polling organization to find out what listeners think of the station's makeover. The company, Poll Vault, builds a telephone survey list by selecting 100 people at random from each age group of listeners. This is an example of which of the following sampling techniques?

A. Systematic

C. Cluster
D. Simple random sample
E. Stratified Random
