This My First Time Riding The Bus And I

My first time riding the school bus?

In my neighborhood it isn't by the street sign...It's mid-block. If you can, I recommend getting a ride to school in the am...then have the school admin show you which one is your bus...LEAVING school (that way you know where it leaves from). Then you will see where is drops you off near your house. Also don't be afraid to tell the driver this is your 1st time and let them tell you where to get off, as there will be many stops.

If you can't get that 1st ride into school, there should be a load of kids standing around in the am waiting for the bus on the street they told you.

A positive thing about taking the bus, you will get a chance to see who lives close to you...which will make it easier to have friends nearer to your house :-)

good luck

First time riding the public bus.?

Hi there!

If you're new to using the bus system, don't worry! I used to have the same anxieties. Just have a look at your local bus transit schedule here. If the link fails, then go to www.cctaride.org and navigate to the bus routes page.

http://www.cctaride.org/pdf/Current%20Web%20Schedules/October%202012%20schedules/6.pdf

Before you get onto any bus, look at the sign on top. Yours should read "6 SHELBURNE ROAD" or something like that. Have a few one-dollar bills ready to go in case you need to pay (since you're just 13, I can't imagine they will charge you but have the just in case...and your school ID).

When you are ready to get off the bus, pull the cord on either side of the bus (the one that runs by the windows) to tell the driver you want to get off. You should probably do this at least one block before the stop, so be familiar with where the stop is you have to get off at.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask your mother! Parents are there to help you out :)

First time riding a public bus? Help please?

Taking the bus is simple and easy.

You pay your bus fare in cash when you enter the bus. You simply deposit the money into a machine which is next to the driver. Have exact change with you because the bus drivers don't make change.
You buy a transfer from the bus driver.

You can also buy bus passes which allow you to take the bus without paying in cash for certain amounts of time.

Here's the website of the L.A. bus/subway system with information on routes, schedules, fares and passes.

The Downtown Area Short Hop buses operate in the downtown area, Hollywood and the Westside.

17 year old riding greyhound bus for the first time, AND IM NERVOUS...advice ?

It's is very nerve recking, but you will be fine, I rode my first grey hound bus when I just turned 18 and it was a three hour trip frist time I was so lucky and got the two seat to my self so I wasn't nervous but he second time I just sat next to a girl, and every time I take it I just look for some one the same sex and looks nice :) one girl even let me us one of her pillows lol but anyways you do need your I.d. And if yo have a big bag they put it in the bus but you can have a little carrying like a back pack or laptop bag ;) and if yo have to go long hours they stop some where and let you get snacks and drinks :) i just didn't really talk to anyone and it went by smoothly :) good luck it won't be so bad

Tommorows my first time riding the public city bus and i have questions about transferring. What transfer Doe?

If you pay using a MetroCard, then the free transfer is automatically encoded onto the card during the few seconds the card is inside the farebox.

If you transfer to another bus and insert the MetroCard the farebox will display "1 Xfer OK". If you transfer to the subway instead the turnstile display will show a similar message.

Keep in mind that either way the 2 hour time limit to make the transfer is in effect.

You will get a paper transfer only if you pay your fare on the bus in coins (and that transfer is only good on a bus of a different route). Paper transfers are not valid for transfer from bus to subway.

How safe is riding the city bus?

To be honest this is going to be my first time actually riding a city bus because i don't have a ride to this place that i wanted to go to today.

What i was wondering is how safe are you really??

My friend used to ride the bus all the time and she would always tell me about the weirdos that would come on the bus.. she even told me about drunk hobos coming on; which kind of freaks me out. lol.

Plus i'm all by myself, which scares me a little too.

Also, is there a certain place in the bus i should sit to avoid weirdos?? Thankks.

What was your first time using public transportation like?

The very first time on a public bus? Probably when I was about 7. My family and I took Amtrak from LA to San Diego, than a San Diego Transit bus to the Zoo. I don’t remember much about the ride itself, except that the fare was a quarter. The first time I rode the bus by myself was in June 1984. I was commuting between La Verne, CA and University of California, Irvine for summer classes, and did not have access to a car a that time. I would have to take five buses each way(!) to make this trip. After class (I had been dropped off in the morning), I ran to catch the first bus of my trip, Orange County Transit #65. I located the bus, boarded, paid my fare (75 cents) and received a free transfer (a ticket good for a free ride on the next connecting bus). It was about an hour’s trip through Irvine and Tustin (both of which still had a lot of open space, agricultural uses, etc.) before arriving in Santa Ana.The Santa Ana Transit Terminal was a covered, off-street location where buses meet for passengers to transfer. I found my next bus, which would take me to the city of Brea. This route traveled mostly on State College Bl, busy suburban street, through Anaheim and Fullerton, before reaching the Brea Mall.At the Mall, there was a bus stop in the parking lot. I caught the RTD #490 which would take me on the 57 Freeway, through Diamond Bar, and to Cal Poly Pomona. I had heard bad things about the RTD buses in the past, but this wasn’t a bad bus ride at all. Most of the other riders were kids coming home from the mall, etc.I left this bus at Cal Poly Pomona, at a large bus stop near the library. The next bus was another RTD that ran along Holt St to central Pomona. While waiting at a stop for a bus that would take me to La Verne, I notice that someone had scratched “I love [name of one of my cousins]” onto the wooden bus bench. I had not seen, or even thought about, that particular cousin in years…
