Thoughts On Clark Atlanta University.

Clark Atlanta University?

hello. This is classified as a "historically black college". that being said i beieve that they provide a "sound" education and the location is good. However, I wouldn't expect to have ivy-leauge educated professors or classmates with 4.0s.

Disclaimer: I have neither attended the school nor known any graduates.

Clark atlanta university or spelman?

It all depends on what you are looking for. I graduated from Morehouse so I have a pretty objective view about both school. Clark Atlanta is a University so depending on what major you want like Mass Comm. or Journalism you may opt to go to CAU. The social scene is good and the school is co ed. My friend who is a recent graduate of Clark explained that the school is going through some things as far as the adminstration and accrediation so you may want to be wary of that. Spelman is a school that if you are looking for sisterhood and becoming part of a lifelong legacy you want to consider. It has several prominent alums, it has a beautiful campus and its right next to Morehouse so if you the single sex thing turns you off, dont worry cause Morehouse and Spelman are pratically the same campus. I have had girlfriends at both schools and CAU is a great school however I feel that the experience you would get a Spelman would be a once and lifetime experience. CAU, Hampton and Howard all provide similar experiences with some variations in academic rigor.

If I had a younger sister, I would definitely say Spelman. You can always cross register at CAU if you want the Co Ed experience. Bottom line whereever you go in the AUC will be great.

Clark Atlanta University....?

I would like to major in Social work at Clark Atlanta University...I want to know does anyone live in Atl, GA. I'm from California and I've desired to live in ATL and go to a HBCU, I'm 20 years old, what is your opinion on Atlanta, and also the school?

Why was Clark Atlanta University founded?

To prudently use the resources available Atlanta u had space for growth a shrinking endowment Clark College had no space for growth but a fair endowment the merger and founding created one great university.

Shopping around clark atlanta university?

Clark Atlanta is in downtown Atlanta so there aren't many shopping centers nearby. Atlantic Station is in Midtown. It is a mixed use district with shopping, dining and it includes a Target and a Publix grocery store. There is also an Ikea at Atlantic Station. It's 4 miles north of the university.

The West End Mall is nearby but I wouldn't recommend that. It's gone way down hill and it isn't in a good area.

Norfolk State University or Clark Atlanta University?

BlackEnterprise/DayStar just completed a study in which they ranked what they term "The Top 50 Colleges and Universities for African-Americans." This excellent study resulted in a number of lists for national liberal arts colleges, national universities, regional liberal arts colleges, regional universities, and HBCUs. You can find their entire report at the website cited below. I urge you to visit, scroll down on the site, and see their various ranking lists.

Here are the top 20 in their overall top 50 ranking, which as you will note, includes non-HBCUs, but most of their top ten are indeed HBCUs.

1 Spelman College (Atlanta, GA)
2 Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA)
3 Florida A&M Univ. (Tallahassee, FL)
4 Clark Atlanta Univ. (Atlanta, GA)
5 Howard Univ. (Washington, DC)
6 Xavier University (New Orleans, LA)
7 Hampton Univ. (Hampton, VA)
8 Tuskegee Univ. (Tuskegee, AL)
9 N. Carolina A&T Univ. (Greensboro, NC)
10 Stanford Univ. (Palo Alto, CA)
11 Georgetown Univ. Washington, DC)
12 Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH)
13 Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, PA)
14 Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, NY)
15 Columbia Univ. (New York, NY)
16 Emory University (Atlanta, GA)
17 Amherst College (Amherst, MA)
18 Johnson C. Smith Univ. (Charlotte, NC)
19 Univ. of N. Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC)
20 Duke University (Durham, NC)

I'm not assuming you'd prefer an HBCU -- I am just noting that Clark Atlanta is highly ranked, and Norfolk State did not make the top 50 list.

Best wishes, whichever school you choose! :)

Which HBCU should I attend when I graduate: Alabama State or Clark Atlanta University?

What a precocious young scholar! It's great that you're thinking about your future so early. If faced with just those two options, I'd recommend attending Morehouse or Spelman. I believe CAU is a marginally better choice than Alabama State primarily because of its location (the Atlanta area is great place to network for post-undergraduate job opportunities), and if you're going to pay that hefty CAU tuition, you'd be better off paying just a tad bit more to attend Morehouse / Spelman and take advantage of all the great recruiting that takes place there.Disclaimer: I'm a Morehouse College class of 2013 grad, and thus am a tad bit biased  - hah

How was Clark Atlanta University established?

I will be the first to admit as a Morehouse man, I don’t know the details of the history of the school, but I know the 30,000 foot history. The school was formed in 1988 when Clark college and Atlanta University merged. Both schools were HBCUs founded in the late 1860’s during reconstruction. I can’t say for sure why the schools merged since it was before my time, but CAU is now the largest schoool in the AUC (by enrollment) and one of the largest HBCUs in the country.

Georgia State University vs. Clark Atlanta University?

I live in georgia. I heard that Georgia State is of course a really big college and I heard mixed reviews about it. Some like it, some dont. Some people like it because its huge, its in the middle of atlanta, there are always things to do, and it has a good curriculum. Some people dont like it because its really expensive, there is too much crime, there is not really any school spirit and it doesnt look like other college campuses.

I also know people that go to clark atlanta. I heard that clark atlanta has good reviews and i heard its a tight knit campus and u will learn alot about the african culture. I also heard its good on academics and people do have a lot of fun there.

If you want more details from people who actually went to those schools, go to: www.collegeclicktv.com. It has videos of college students talking about everything about the schools including dorm life, food, entertainment, professors and the people that go there. It can be really helpful for u.

What is it like to be a summer student at Clark Atlanta University? How is it different from the normal school year?

Will you be staying on campus or off campus? My summer in Atlanta gave me a glimpse of Atlanta I didn't expect. Experiencing Atlanta during school is worlds apart from actually living in Atlanta.Atlanta feels different when you are just living in Atlanta and not experiencing the AUC-Atlanta. College being in session has a real impact on the city, being out of session equally so. Since college students have gone home there are far less college centered events. The best parts of college for me were hanging with my friends from all over the AU, talking about all sorts of stuff. It's what I miss most about the college experience. Being there in the summer will give you a glimpse into life after college where it feels like you've lost all of your best friends because they all have jobs now and live hundreds of miles away. It's boring.Your friends aren't there so there's far less to do. I guess this could translate to you having a significant amount of time to focus on academic work. You'd also be able to work more closely with your professors since they won't have so many obligations to other students.Really depends on your goals for staying behind for the summer. Are you looking to spring forward, making up for lost time or trying out courses you wouldn't dedicate time to otherwise?
