Three Days Grace 2014 Album

What is the best Green Day album?

Well I can purely say 'Dookie' will be one of the best record they ever made. Kerplunk // Nimrod // Insomniac are actually marvelous but they didn't receive much recognition although they did achieve platinum record status but it didn't create a big impact on wider audience. American Idiot & 21st Century Breakdown comes a close second i suppose(American Idiot was Fantastic!!!).Frankly speaking American Idiot was actually a very superb work they ever did.it was actually a big bucket of awesomeness & 21st century Breakdown was their best chart performing album till now.I mean people should really hear 'Know your Enemy' // 21 Guns // Murder City etc.well as a matter of fact it was actually 'Dookie' who made Green day the talk of town.the initial bassline of 'longview' performed by bassist mike dirnt was amazing & MTV actually did a good work by showcasing it on their network.'When I come Around' & 'She' were equally supportive. Its actually been 20 years since 'Dookie' was realized (It's Dookie's 20th anniversary as on this date) and the band as well as Billie Joe Armstrong has made much progress by winning 5 Grammy awards;producing musicals on Broadway;successful world tours;making two documentaries about their life & records etc. I must say the band has matured over the period of time.Their trilogy titled  UNO/DOS/TRE was actually a good project which experimented the blend of Pop Punk/Grunge/Garage Rock.People should actually listen to their older records as well are their new music.I agree that their music has evolved a lot over time & i guess it sounds perfectly fine. Lastly people should note that Green Day aren't 'sellouts'.just because you change your music style doesn't always mean that you are selling out.they are experimenting with their music and i think its ok for a band to modify or reinvent a particular work.I've been a rock aficionado since many years & I love Green Day's work & i must say they're actually talented.I also listen to Led Zeppelin // Black Sabbath // ACDC // Foo Fighters and other rock bands as well. What separates Green Day from other rock bands is their sense of style & their unique intellect in the history of punk rock.My Other Answers on Green Day.Deven Satam (देवेन साटम)'s answer to How has Nirvana influenced Green Day's music?Deven Satam (देवेन साटम)'s answer to Did Green Day break up? What highly rated album did you not think was as good as others say it is?

Remember, folks, this is just my opinions. What the hell do I know? So, at the top of the list is a record that I'm not sure counts as "highly rated" but it is certainly highly revered by the music press and by fans of the band. Radiohead's OK, Computer earned ravenous reviews and seemingly universal respect, but it has never registered a blip on my radar. Outside of "Karma Police" (which I find plodding and unfocused) I can't tell you any of the names of the songs on the album. And, don't get me wrong - I have witnessed two Radiohead concerts and really liked them. I think Kid A and Amnesiac are inspired (if convoluted and difficult) albums. But OK, Computer just doesn't seem to rate the adoration that it has received.Honorable mentions include:The Beach Boys Smile - technically not an actual release since it was scuttled due to Brian Wilson's inability to complete it, but once it was released in its intended format I found it to be tedious and underwhelming. (Pet Sounds, on the other hand, is a Desert Island Disc, and it baffles me when I see people claim that it is overrated. Blasphemy!)Bob Dylan Blonde On Blonde - outside of the opening "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" and the closing "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" the record feels forced and dated. Yes, some of his "classic" songs are found on this record - "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again," "Just Like a Woman," and "Absolutely Sweet Marie," but time has not been kind to these recordings. It just doesn't warrant the pedestal so many people have placed this one on. (Dylan's true classic is Blood On The Tracks, followed by Love & Theft and Time Out Of Mind.)Scott Walker Bish Bosch - after triumphant releases like Tilt and The Drift Walker took such a left turn he literally left the planet. I can appreciate pushing the envelope, and I love some really difficult albums (works by Throbbing Gristle and Hafler Trio come to mind) but this was almost completely unlistenable. Such a pity.

On the 'Let It Be' album, John mentions, 'Phase One in which Doris gets her oats.' Was he referring to Doris Day?

No, it was just Lennon burbling. In mid-20th century English popular culture, ‘Doris’ was a stereotypically comical (because old-fashioned) first name, along with ‘Ethel’ and ‘Mildred’: names that Lennon would have associated with his parents’ or grandparents’ generation. Male equivalents would be names like ‘Herbert’, ‘Percy’ and ‘Wilfred’.Exactly why these names were considered funny is a little hard to reconstruct at this stage, but in most cases they have medieval origins. ‘Mildred’, ‘Ethel’ and ‘Wilfred’ all come from Old English; ‘Herbert’ is an Old Germanic name; ‘Percy’ comes from the Norman House of Percy and ‘Doris’ was a sea nymph in Greek mythology. The fact that these names were popular in the early 20th century perhaps reflects the social aspirations of middle-class parents of the time. Lennon’s own parents, aunts and uncles had for the most part staunchly ordinary names: Julia and Alfred (parents), Mary, Elizabeth, Anne and Harriet (maternal aunts), but he did have an uncle Herbert, an older brother of his father.

R&P: Things that kill the mood #2.....?

You know when it's a perfect day outside? Warm, sunny, low breeze. You happen to be in the car with a Bob Marley CD in, and you roll down the windows and just cruise. But then your grandma closes the sun roof, closes the windows, and her excuse is "You're letting the air conditioning out"

And that just kills the mood. Now it's your turn, R&P. What other things kill the mood?

BQ: Now playing?
BQ2: Album of the day?
