Thrifted Polaroid 600

Polaroid 600 camera trouble?

So the flash ready light comes on but nothing happens when you press the shutter? It could be several things, but it's likely the film is long past its expiration, so you have nothing to lose by experimenting.

Open the film compartment by pushing the button on the side of the camera forward. The door should flop open. Check the rollers. Do they rotate freely or are they all gunked up with residue from broken chemical pods? If they are dirty, clean them with a damp cloth. Don't use anything other than water. If that doesn't help, open the door again, grasp the plastic tab attached to the film pack and pull out the pack. If there's still film in the pack, you will see the grayish, glossy surface on the top of the film pack. This will ruin one exposure, but the film is probably so old it hardly matter. If there's no film, you just have an old film pack with a battery that still has a little juice. If there's film, shove the pack back into the camera. If the battery is good enough and there's nothing else wrong, it will spit out the ruined top exposure and you can try taking a picture if more film remains in the pack.

An old Polaroid 600 isn't worth much trouble. The only source of fresh film is The Impossible Project in the Netherlands. It's not cheap, but you can buy it if the camera works. If not, you can find plenty of Polaroid cameras at yard sales and thrift shops all over the country. Don't pay more than a few bucks.

How much is a polaroid 600 sun camera worth?

They Sell on Etsy for $25-$35...

I think i broke my polaroid camera?!?

I just bought a polaroid impulse camera at the thrift store today. Obviously been used.
Theres no film, and i found out they discontinued making the 600 film it needs :(

so a few times...maybe dozen i was playing around pretending to take pics, the shutter making an extremely bright light every time it goes off , and a green or red light would be on.

well..now it doesnt have alight on when i turn the polaroid on (pushing in the shutter so it sticks up), and the shutter doesnt flash anymore. or when i take the film container out and put it in, the polaroid camera wont make that starting up sound..

didi i break it? :( so sad.

Do Polaroid cameras still exist?

Yes they do exist. Polaroid is just an brand name camera type is instant. So yeah there are new Polaroid instant cameras and Fujifilm Instax instant cameras. Buying those old cameras is waste of money in my opinon unless you are an collector. Most of those old Polaroid cams don't have film avaliable only 3 types of impossible project film packs cost you around $25 per pack of 8 film.new Polaroid digital instant cameras are quite expensive. Polaroid Z340 camera is really geat but cost you around $275 !! I think it's too much for an instant camera.Fujifilm Instax cameras are cheaper you can get one of these for $60 upward. Film quality is also good and cost is around 50 cent usd per photo print.if you want to find a latest Polaroid model then check recently released cameras  Instant Camera 2015 - InstantCamera101.com

How can I get my spectra film for my Polaroid to work? Help!?

I purchased this 3 dollar camera while thrifting and it's a Polaroid spectra system, I couldn't get the film out for a whole because there wasn't a tab to help pull it out, it worked before I took the film out, it would have the charging light lit up and then the ready light would blink I then tried to take the picture but I noticed it was printing, I finally got the film cartridge out and saw one of the photos was stuck so I pulled it out and reset it so its able to print, I put it back in but now but it won't turn on anymore, there also was a number beside my charging and ready lights indicating the number of photos left which was 9-now it says nothing, no number there, sometimes when I turn it on the charging light flashes on really quick but goes back off just as quickly and it's not working, is there anything I could do? I don't really want to pay 20-30 dollars on working film when it was working before, I know they don't make it anymore and I know where to find some (the impossible project) but before I pay I'd like to try and fix this one, I've tried to remove the film and put it back in but still nothing, any suggestions?

I have a OneStep Polaroid Camera, how do I tell it works without buying film?

It's really smart that you are looking to test the camera before buying film. Most people just run out and buy the film, expecting a used camera they bought at a thrift store to just work, only to find out the camera is broken.

In the case of Polaroid OneSteps though, they are very simple cameras and there's not a lot that can go wrong with them. Unfortunately, however, there is no way to really test the camera without film because the film pack contains the battery.

If you are interested in instant film photography, this is just part of the game. I'd suggest buying some film from the Impossible Project and trying it. It probably works. If it doesn't, you can always pick up another camera on eBay or Craigslist and try again.

I would also recommend trying Fuji Instax film and cameras instead of vintage Polaroid 600. You can buy Instax cameras of various types new as well as the film. The Instax film is cheaper than Impossible Project and more conventional looking. If you want that "retro" "artsy" Impossible Project look though, they're the only way to go.

Good luck and enjoy!

Where can I buy Polaroid 600 camera film for cheap?

Simple answer. You can't. It always has been expensive to run a Polaroid instant photo camera.

All of the original unused Polaroid film packs are now so old that the built-in batteries will either be dead or will give you a few shots at most, they're only usable reliably on cameras which have been modified to accept an external 4.5v d.c. power supply.. The photo chemistry will also likely be stale and the camera may be unable to roll out the developer chemicals to cover the entire photo. Even then, the prices that original photo packs go for isn't usually cheap. The photos also must be shaded from direct light immediately after ejection from the camera while they're still developing; with the original Polaroid material it was good enough just to keep them out of direct sunlight as you watched the image slowly appear. If you do that with the new material then the photo becomes washed -out and the shot is wasted.

Your only reliable source is from The Impossible Project (link below). It's not the same as the original film, colours are more muted, you only get 8 shots per pack instead of 10, it tends to fade quickly even if you manage to remove the excess chemical from each photos (so scan the images to keep them) and isn't cheap. But it really doesn't cost much more than the Polaroid packs used to cost (as they were in the UK at least). It's a special product which is really intended for artists and specialist photographers.

One little tip: if you take a very over-exposed image (as opposed to one which has bleached out due to subsequent light exposure), then don't discard it. You can pull a huge amount of the detail back if you scan the photo. It doesn't work for underexposed images so well though, as a scanner cannot pull out details which were never captured to begin with.

Where can you buy a cheap Polaroid camera and film?

You can’t. There is only one manufacturer of film: Polaroid Originals, formerly known as ImpossibleProject. If the cost of film is important (i.e. you shoot a lot of photos) get a Fuji Instax (mini, square or wide) - film costs about half of Polaroid film per shot. You may get outdated film packs at reduced prices but the P.I.-film ages badly.Instax films, when stored in a cool place, often stay good for several years past their EXP.Date.

What happens if you don't store Polaroid film in the fridge?

I bought a Polaroid 600 camera last week from a thrift store and today I bought the film. I put the film in the camera to check if the camera works and it does, however I did not put the film in the fridge beforehand. Will this affect my pictures? Can I take out the film back out?

What kind of film does a Polaroid Sun 600 Instant Camera take?

I recently bought a good old fashioned Polaroid Sun 600 Instant Camera from a thrift store, and I was wondering what type of film it will take?

Also, if anyone knows where I can get the film for a decent price, that would be a great help.
Thanks ahead of time.
