Throat Sore What Can I Do

Can paint fumes cause a sore throat?

I was painting my narrow hallway today and developed a wicked sore throat shortly after I was finished. I tried to have as much ventilation as possible but due to the tight space, I was still pretty enclosed. So, I am wondering if that is the cause of my horrible sore throat. I was using acrylic based paint that is about 3 years old if that helps any. Thanks for your help!

Can eating a lot of candy make your throat sore?

I got a bag of assorted candies for my birthday (moatly gummy bears, twizzlers, and sour patch) and needless to say I've had a hard time putting it down, especially since I RARELY ever even eat candy. Some of it is coated in sour sprinkles, but not a lot of it. After about 3 days of just munching occasionally on this candy, I have a screaming sore throat that I didn't have when I went to bed last night. Is it just a coincidence (it is allergy season after all), or could the sugar or sour candy have done anything to progress a sore throat? Just wondering.

How soon after having a sore throat can I sing?

When your throat is sore, it’s your oropharynx that you’re feeling, not your larynx/vocal cords. This is good news because it’s pretty hard to do damage to your oropharynx, so the sore throat is more of an annoyance than an impediment to singing—I sing with a sore throat all the time. The bad news here, though, is that you won’t really feel it if/when your larynx and vocal cords get damaged. You’ll be able to HEAR it in your voice if you’re attuned to that sort of thing, but it’s hard to know exactly what you’re hearing. And when you have a cold or a sore throat your larynx is at slightly elevated risk—only slightly, but if singing is important to you, that’s still too much risk. Because you won’t know immediately if you’re doing damage, it can be scary to sing when you’re sick.As you get to know your voice and its parameters better, you’ll be able to pinpoint this risk down to the day. Professional singers usually know exactly when we can start singing again, which is good because it keeps us out of work for the minimum number of days. For now, it’s helpful to experiment a bit in a safe way. Try to sing for 5–10 minutes, gently, each day of your illness, and see if you start getting tired. If you do, give it another day of rest, but if not, you should be OK to sing, even if you still have some scratchiness on your throat (it may not be your personal best singing, but it should be healthy). And certainly by the time your sore throat is gone, you’ll be OK to sing.(I’m not a doctor, and if there’s any doubt beyond the question details that you’re safe to sing, please hold off singing until you see an ENT.)

Should we take a bath when we have sore throat, cold and cough?

Hi,Yes, besides a cleansing process it also comes under hydrotherapy under Naturopathy science .All these acute diseases have nothing to do with bathing. It’s a known fact that in a centimeter square area of arm pit we have millions of germs normally, so when we take bath, it is to get rid from those germs and many more from rest of the body. However if you are getting feverish feeling or feeling cold. Can use lukewarm water for bathing.Start with cleaning your feet’s and hands first followed by sprinkling some water over your head (it comes under the procedure of hydrotherapy) . Try not to use hot water, just according to your skin temperature. Thanks for acknowledging the post.VC

Will eating fruits while having a sore throat make the sore throat worse? Are there specific fruits that would make the sore throat worse?

You can eat anything that doesn't make the soreness worse for you. There are very few things that will actually hinder you getting better except, and these two are important- pineapple and papaya ( paw paw). They both contain proteolytic enzymes . These,as the name implies, digest protein. They're used as meat tenderizer. You can imagine what they'd do to your sore throat. They really could damage the tissues. Otherwise eat what you feel like eating that you find comfortable and able to swallow. Common sense will probably be your guide. Milk is fine an soothing as is honey. And no, milk does not make mucus;)

Throat hurts after Crying?

When you cry, you produce a LOT more mucus. This mucus in turn drains down the back of your throat. This irritates the lining of your esophagus causing a sore throat. It's the same reason you get a sore throat when you have a runny nose.

The sneezing is a combination of your nose trying to get out all the gunk that didn't slide down the back of your throat, and trying to qwell it's OWN irritation from all the mucus being released and swelling your sinus cavity.

Your lymphnodes are swollen for (indirectly) the same reason. when your throat gets irritated, it swells up with fluid. The lymphomdes are trying to drain that fluid, causing them to swell up.

Give your throat and lymphnodes time to calm down and drain and you should be fine. If you aren't feeling better in two days, go see a doc to see if there's something else or to get help with what you've got.
"Pain while trying to fight crying" would be more clear scenario because some people do not face pain just while crying, but almost all feel the pain when trying to stop crying.

Neuro-Physiological Expaination
It's is related to flight or fight response of human evolution. It is known as Acute Stress Response as it is onset by stress and the Autonomic, Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system coordinates it. >Without going in complete details of ASR, it is regulated by amygdala region and key hormones to play a role are epinephrine and norepinephrine.
How Central and Peripheral nervous system orchestrates the complete response is very beautiful to understand, but would be beyond the scope of the question here.
The key factor is epinephrine which increases heart rate and slowed breathing.
The Sympathetic system expands the glottis(the muscle that keep food out of airways) to compensate the imbalance between increased oxygen demand by vital muscles and slowed down breathing rate.
Now, the parasympathetic system kicks in, trying to maintain homeostasis, thereby making swallowing possible. As you try to swallow the saliva produced during crying, the activity tries to push onto expanded glottis, which now blocks the passage to food pipe, the pressure on the glottis results into lump in the throat or pain while crying.

I did hookah and my throat hurts?

Ah, shisha sickness. A common phenomenon for first-timers. The sickness manifests in different ways. Some people faint or feel light-headed. Others get a sore throat. Some people become nauseated or they vomit, while others get a migraine. Here are a few things to keep in mind when smoking hookah to minimize the risk of shisha sickness.

1. Make sure you are not "double inhaling". When you draw from a hookah some smoke is being pulled into the lungs, not just the mouth. It isn't like a cigarette where you draw smoke into the mouth, inhale, hold it, then exhale. I suppose some people smoke the hookah that way, but you don't really want to do that.

2. Don't use quick lite charcoal tabs or BBQ charcoal. Use slow burning coals, preferably natural ones such as Chronic Hookah Natural Coal. It's made from compressed coconut shells. It produces no sulfur and does not burn using any chemicals, so the smoke isn't as harsh.

3. Don't over or under pack your bowl and don't fill the bowl so high that the coals scorch the shisha, which produces harsh smoke.

4. Every so often, if you're getting harsh smoke, you need to purge your hookah. If you're using a single hose model, you simply open the release valve a bit and blow gently into the hose. Smoke will be purged from the vase and will come out the valve. Unfortunately, multiple hose rigs typically cannot be purged.

5. Stay hydrated while smoking. Keep a bottle of water handy. I find pieces of ash tend to fly into an open glass, so having something you can put a lid on is handy. Every so often, take swig.

6. If at any point during your smoking session you feel dizzy, faint, sick to your stomach or get a headache, stop. You don't have to ever push yourself to keep smoking.

7. Don't try to be Shisha Superman. When you're just starting, especially if you don't already smoke cigs, cigars or a tobacco pipe then you aren't used to it. You don't want to be taking insanely long draws off the hookah.

I'm sure your throat will get better very soon. I'd hold off on smoking until it's completely better, just so you don't irritate it all over again.

Why does my husband's semen make my throat sore if I swallow?

It's possible you have a semen allergy. Put a small bit of his semen on your skin (such as your hand or arm) and wait. If you experience itching, burning or irritation of any kind in that very spot then you know for sure. It's possible to desensitize an allergy with repeated exposure. You could try that, or simply avoid his semen altogether.

Just don't forget HIS feelings in this matter. The idea that his semen hurts you likely will not make him feel good. Make it clear with him that this is a physical issue and it has nothing to do with your feelings for him.
