Tickets To Go Across Europe

How much are train tickets in Europe?

To travel by train from England to the continent, your only option is the Eurostar, which takes the channel tunnel. For simplicity, I will presume that when you say "from England to France" you mean from London to Paris, although you can travel from Ashford to Lille if you like.

If you book your ticket early enough (maximum 90 days in advance - can be booked through http://www.eurostar.com ) you can get a one-way non-refundable ticket in economy for £39.00 (roughly $57 US).

"France" to Amsterdam again will presume from Paris (obviously it will cost less if you are closer, or more if you are further away as a departure city). If it is this exact route you will be taking, you will be travelling on a Thalys high-speed train. Again you get a discount if you purchase your ticket early (can use http://www.thalys.com ). A non-flexible second-class trip currently can be purchased for as little as € 35.00 (about $45 US).

Finally, Amsterdam to "England" will assume London once more. This is a little more expensive because more than one train is required. First you would travel from Amsterdam to Brussels on a Thalys high-speed train, and then switch to the Eurostar back to London. You can purchase this trip through the Eurostar website as with the first trip. The total cost would be about £69.00 ($100 US).

Now if you are using these trips to get an example of the cost of rail travel in Europe, these are not ideal choices as you will be taking the most expensive trains on the continent. The Eurostar and Thalys are considered high-end trains as they are high-speed and more comfortable than standard trains. If you will be taking other standard-speed travel within France or elsewhere, the prices will be much lower for your journeys.

Where can I search online for train tickets in Europe? (Belgrade - Frankfurt)?

There is a great site for train travel with links to the various national train websites where you can find schedules and prices for trains and book tickets here: http://www.seat61.com/index.html . The German train site is one of the best for finding schedules throughout most of Europe: http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/index.... The standard fare for Belgrade to Frankfurt will be at least 223.20 euro (one way) and the trip will take over 19 hours with multiple train changes. You may be able to get discounted fares if you purchase tickets far enough in advance, but the budget flight you've found is likely to be cheaper and much faster.

Where can I find cheap train or bus tickets across Europe?

I use captaintrain.com when I'm in France.  You can book your tickets quickly and easily online, then print them from a kiosk at just about any train station.  Once your details are entered, captaintrain remembers you, so you can book with a few taps of your smartphone.   You can get an SCNF advantage code here, which may give you a discount on your fares. If you're not fluent in French, booking online has the advantage of letting you easily search for better routes, fares, and train types.  We traveled extensively by TGV last fall.  It's remarkably comfortable, fast, and convenient. Captaintrain.com shows you the cheapest fares, including first class fares.  We found that first class travel was only 20 or 30 euros more than cattle class in many cases.  More than worth it for the quiet and comfort.  I haven't traveled by train outside of France for a few years, so I can't comment, other than to say that David White's answer sounds very sensible, especially if you're planning to cover a lot of ground in a relatively short time. Until recently, I've traveled with my children, so car rental was cheaper and more convenient.  For a couple or a single traveler,  trains are a great option.

Really cheap flights to Europe?!?

Try Kayak which searches across a lot of other sites to find best prices. http://www.kayak.com/ You could also try skyscanner: http://www.skyscanner.net/

Not knowing where you're starting from or exactly where you want to go makes it difficult to make specific recommendations, but the problem is going to be timing. Flights go nearly full these days and this is the peak season. I see some fares from Chicago to Frankfurt in the first half of August for around $1100 and $900 to $1000 in the 2nd half of the month though.

How to get cheap flights to Europe?

I had luck buying tickets off of skyauction.com You might also try buying frequent flyer miles from someone who doesn't use them. I bought a roundtrip ticket to Italy for $300 that way. I bought them from an E&Y executive who travelled heavily for work. The last thing he wanted to do in his free time was get on an airplane. The best thing to do there is ask family and friends if they know anyone who travels a lot for work. Good Luck!

How do I book the cheapest flights in Europe?

There are a number of ways to bbok cheap flights in Europe, luckily the continent has a number of low-cost airlines. The "rules of thumb" for finding cheap flights are as follows: 1) search for flights that leave Tuesdays or Wednesdays2) make sure to search many low-cost airlines at once (Dohop.com usually has the best coverage of these)3) search about 3 months in advance to get the cheap seats4) make sure to include smaller airports, like searching from all London airports, not just Heathrow.5) Use online travel agents as well as the airlines' own websites, as the travel agents often have lower prices on the same tickets as the airlines (again, Dohop.com will also do this for you).I hope this is what you were looking for.
