Tips For A Really Long Plane Ride

What are some tips for plane rides?

I fly a few times a month. Some tips:Choose an airline and stick to it and get a credit card for miles. Being silver preferred is already so much better than being a pleb, though of course higher levels are even nicer.Earplugs in pocket ALWAYS. You never know when there's a baby nearby who can't pop his ears and there's nothing a parent can do about it. More important, planes are noisy and it can be hard to sleep without.Especially for long haul flights, check Airline Seat Maps, Flights shopping and Flight information- Best Airplane Seats before choosing the seat to see if it's a good one. If you're under 26, book via Book cheap student and teacher flights, hotels and hostels with STA Travel Agency for cheaper fares. In general, Vayama™ Official Site - Cheap International Flights has some cheaper international fares other sites don't. And Google Flights is amazing! Try and get a seat that'll be on the left side when flying from USA to Europe. You don't wanna be on the wrong side if the northern lights come out! :) (won't happen in summer tho, you'll just see perpetual twilight)When at all possible, namely when flying to go abroad, do not fly with an American carrier if you can possibly help it. They suck unless you're in business (and I even pay a little extra to avoid United if possible). Foreign carriers on the other hand all better baggage allowances, toys for little kids, better movies, and free booze and plenty of it! (Including free liquor usually, not just wine/beer!) The best ones IMO are the Arab airlines, like Emirates and Qatar Airways. Also note, the cheapest way usually to fly in/out of Europe is either with Norwegian (budget airline), Icelandair (budget model but has tv screens, and you get up to a week layover in Iceland at no extra charge!), and Aer Lingus ie Ireland. Obviously this depends a ton also on where you're going/coming from, but these guys have all been really worth my while to know about at various points. As a rule of thumb, one alcoholic drink in the air slams your body as hard as three drinks on the ground. Which is good if you have time to kill, but do always ask for water on the side.Opt for aisle seat if you have a small bladder or like to stretch your legs. I don't mind standing up if awake, but airplane sleep is so precious you get really pissed if you woken up in the middle of it for someone's bathroom breaks.

How to not get bored on long plane rides?

You are pretty limited in what you can do on an airplane so the iPod, d.s., reading, sleeping are pretty much what most people will be doing. You can bring an activity book with crossword puzzles, word-find games or sudoku. I recommend you buy a few magazines that really interest you. Then read them on the plane. I actually like reading the in-flight magazine since sometimes they have some really interesting articles. Bringing a laptop as suggested by the previous person is a great idea.

First Airplane ride...tips anyone?

Ill say bullet points to stop you reading loads!!

A music player to help her sleep if overnight flight.
Gum to stop ears popping
Earplugs to stop ears popping*some airlines provide this*
A good book if its a long flight.
Keep water handy for the sake of it!!
My brothers 11 and PETRIFIED weve travelled all over the world and the only thing that stops him running around screaming is having a small toy, obviously your partner is not a small child but maybe a small squidgy keychain or even your hadn would help!!
Talk LOADS to her and just keep her mind off of the flight.
If there is any turbulance, distact her by asking questions or talking about how good the rest of your trips going to be.

I would say distraction adn something to do are the main ones.
Have a good time ,
By the way, if your driving to the airport etc dont tell her you have mroe of a chance being in a car crash than an airoplane crash!!!

Tips for fear of flying?

I'm flying to Scotland on May 9th...and to make things worse, me and my friend have to make two connecting flights to get there (charlotte to chicago, chicago to london, and then finally london to glasgow ~_~;; ) I have a definite phobia of flying...and I've never been on a transatlantic flight before, so I'm especially nervous. I know statistically speaking flying is alot safer than being in a car...but that seems less convincing when there's only a few inches of metal between you and eternity ^^; Any tips would be appreciated.

Is riding an airplane scary?

I know a few people who are scared of flying, although they still fly all over the world. My parents have flown from the UK to Australia even though my mother is scared of flying. She finds it easier if she can look out a window.

Turbulence is just rough wind and the plan goes up and down. It's as bad as an old wooden rollercoaster. You might feel your stomach go a little but it's nothing to be worried about.

The planes entertainment system depends on the company and class you fly. BMI and Virgin are very good with each person getting a TV and several channels to choose from. Most of the other airlines I've flown with seems to be pot luck whether you have a personal system of a TV screen every 4 or 5 seats.

My tips for flying long distance is:

- Drink lots of fluids, water is best.
- Never drink alcohol. You will get drunk easier, you will get dehydrated easier, you can be refused to fly and they can have you arrested for being drunk on an airplane
- During take off and landing such a boiled sweet to prevent pressure build up ear aches.
- Get up and walk about every few hours, even if it's just to go and use the bathroom. This will prevent DVT.
- Bring a book, the in flight entertainment is not always worth while.
- Bring a pen. You will have to fill in forms.
- Dress Smart but comfortable. It's a long flight so you need to be comfortable but they will sometimes bump people up a class if you look smart. (Had it happened twice (once form economy to first class.)

Bringing 7 month old baby on the airplane - advice and tips?

I am taking my 7 month old on her first plane ride and would love any tips on traveling with a baby. It's almost a 4 hour flight. How can I bring the formula – mixed or not mixed? Will they let me bring a little 8 oz nursery water on board so I can mix with the powder? Or do I need to premix and carry the darn heavy cooler bag? Then I have to warm it up somehow... Should I bring a stroller or no? We’re not going to be walking around much on our 4 day trip…so I probably won’t need it, but maybe it's nice to have with so I don't have to carry her and everything else? Plus I do have a "Snuggli" carrier. How about checking the seat and base? Should I pack it in a bag? Should I get on the plane first and find the bulkhead seat? Also, she'll be on my lap for the ride-but I'll probably keep her in the snuggli carrier in case of turbulence... Any other tips would be really appreciated. Also, do I need to bring her birth certificate for any reason?

Carry on and plane tips for a teen girl?

Im 14, and have never been on a plane before! Im so scared, and i dont know what to pack in my carry on. I have a pretty big carry on, its a roxy backpack with 2 pockets. One big one, and a smaller one in the front & theres 2 mesh pockets on either side. Im bringing makeup on the plane because we are flying to the czek republic and i have a quart size baggy, would it be a bad idea to put in the mesh pocket or would it get stolen?? Our itinerary goes like this:
-hometown to chicago *1.5 hours
-chicago to frankfurt, germany *9 hours
-frankfurt to prague * approxamatley 2.5 hours

* also we are leaving my house at about 6 because the plane leaves at 7:45, we get to chicago at about 8, their time. so basically the flight is all over night, and we get to prague in the early afternoon.

also, i have braces, if that matters snack-wise. We are leaving in about 3 days, and it will be summer there && we will be there for 3 weeks *18 days to be exact* <-- i dont know if that matters about my carry-on but ill take any help i can get (:

umm, i have long hair? how should i wear it on the plane, like what would be the most practical...
and on the plane im wearing sweatpant capri's from abercrombie and fitch, and my cheer sweat shirt, which is kind of heavy but super comfy! any feedback on this would be super helpful!

another thing, i LOVE reading! but i dont know if i should bring a book, or just some magazines? i bet i could finish one book the whole plane ride, but i dont know if its practical to bring...

what shoes should i wear on the plane? i was just going to wear flip flops and bring some fluffy socks, and the last question. What should i expect of a plane ride? please tell me, i would like to be well informed (:

PLEASE HELP (:
