Tips For First Acting Audition

First musical theatre audition tips (Wizard of Oz)?

Wow! Awesome for you for auditioning!
Each audition is different, but there are some general "guidelines"

As for the song:
Well, what character are you going for?
Dorothy- something that portrays innocence/is a ballad/a song that you could see the character of Dorothy singing like...
Home- Beauty and the Beast
Somewhere That's Green- Little Shop of Horrors
What I Did For Love- A Chorus Line

For Glinda, she should sing something about empowerment/ motherly type songs like...
Climb Evry Mountain- Sound of Music
Follow Your Heart- Urinetown
No One is Alone- Into the Woods (LOVE this song)
(I would avoid Wicked songs)

Wicked Witch- something that shows your eviler side like...
Poor Unfortunate Souls- Little Mermaid
Last Midnight- Into the Woods
(Again, avoid Wicked songs)

As for the monologue, check with the directors. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you called or sent an e-mail for clarification. If they didn't state it, then they probably don't expect one, but again, always check to be sure.

Auditions can be both closed and open but almost everyone I have had has been open.

Make sure you research the shows and characters before your audition too to get a better feel for the show.

If you prepare properly and go into your audition with confidence, I think you will have a good shot.

Break a leg!

Does anyone have any acting tips?

1. Dress up in nice black pants, a nice shirt. Heels.
2. Make yourself seem interesting. If they ask a question, elaborate, don't just end it at "yes" or "no"
3. Change up the lines. Don't make them all sound the same, and try not to say them like you think everyone else will.
[ex. Say the first line slower than the second, say the third line louder than the second, etc.] you can play with tempo and volume. it might sound stupid and fake to you, but it sounds good to everyone else.

(i thought i sounded stupid when my acting teacher told me to do this, but i got a callback from mitchell gossett, miley cyrus' agent)

Don't be nervous! As much as you think they don't, they WANT you to do good! They WANT to find their role! Smile, act like you want to be there.

In the interviews.. Sometimes the interviews you do are just for the person to see if you have a good, outgiong personality and aren't afraid to talk to new people.
If they ask you why you want to be an actor, don't say to be famous!

Try to stand out from the others in anyways you can. Out of the 100 people, you want to be the one they remember the most!!

And seriously try to read the side different than the others.
"when you use finesse, you'll notice how smooth your hair is. and so will someone else. Silk protein finesse - the look that gets the touch."

act that in your mind. I guarentee you just did it like everyone else would. PRETEND YOU'RE TALKING TO YOUR FRIEND.

You can practice with that "commercial". Say it 5 times - but each time has to be different!!

Best of luck!! Email me with your success :D

Tips for auditioning for school play.?

Acting is just that, pretending you are someone you are not.
Character acting is pretending you are the role.

So, either be yourself doing someone else, or make the role you.
Many actors are shy and public cowards, so pretend you are the best and you just might be. That is what Acting is about.
