Tips For Holidays In Australia

Which day is Australian weekly holiday?

Saturday and Sunday are theoretically weekends but these days many people work both days as stores and many businesses stay open of course. Usually they get days off during the week.

We don't have a religious holiday each week as such (as some cultures do). Overall Christianity and other religions are not THAT engrained in the culture. That said, there are many Christians who choose not to work on Sunday. IN Hobart, it's true that up until recently shops could not open on Sunday and I actually enjoyed that fact most of the time.

I'm moving to Australia and I HATE spiders! Any tips?

If you're coming for a holiday it's unlikely that you'll see any spiders at all! Even living here you will probably be in a city apartment and won't see many, just little harmless ones that you can find anywhere in the world. Surely there are spiders where you live! You mention you've decided to move to Australia, and I'm just wondering what sort of visa you've managed to get. It's possible that getting a visa to stay here will be a much bigger problem than a spider or two.

@ Beau - what sort of housing do you live in, try some house-cleaning and you won't have those problems. I've lived in different parts of Australia, both city and country, and have never had to check my bed each evening, or other parts of the house for that matter. Keep the place clean and free of clutter and you won't get many pests at all! The only thing my family and I are very careful about is not to leave shoes outside - ever, not even for a few minutes. Better to have a bit of dirt on the carpet than a spider suddenly biting your toe!

What are the tips when renting a car in Australia?

The most important tip is probably to look at more than just a low price. You want to make sure that the car you’re renting is the safest out there, and that the company will also be there to answer any question and take care of any issue (if something does come up). Some other helpful tips would be:1- Consider optional extras available. Handy extras like child seats, GPS units and prepaid fuel are often available to save you time and hassle.2 - Explore different locations. Premium location charges are often applied at major locations like airports, so better to rent in alternate ones.3 - Look out for deals. There are often deals for multi-day and mid week rentals.I’d recommend that you check out Thrifty, as they offer great deals and discounts, and were also voted #1 car rental in Australia, for both customer service and vehicle quality.

Backpacking Australia. Tips and advice?

I have always wanted to travel Australia and have decided that I'm not going to wait any longer. I am planning of backpacking by myself for about 40 or so days up the east coast. As a female what would be some good advice. And budget wise? Couch surfing? My goal is to do the trip December-January so just under a year from now. Would it be better to fly to each spot I want to go up the coast or grey hound? I want to make friends and be social though I'm traveling alone

How do I plan a trip to Australia from India?

Just go to the Australian Embassy and find out if you are eligible for a Visa to enter. If you are to be a 'Bona Fide' traveller, you shouldn't have any issue in obtaining the Visa. They will ask you heaps of questions including availability of your funds and the proof of same. If they ever suspect your intention is to go and stay illegally, they can easily find out by way of their 'Unique' questioning techniques! If you can still manage to arrive contrary to what you originally told them, they can make the country very unattractive for you to the extent where you will long to go back to India for good. What can they do for example? If you are in need of a Hospital, they will ask for your Medicare Card without which you won't be able to get any medical assistance and the system shall 'Flag' about your residential status! If you manage to buy a car and you are stopped by Police for whatever reason, they can find out that you are not a legitimate migrant, namely not a 'Bona-Fide' visitor and you could easily be arrested for detention and deported. In this case, you wouldn't be granted for another Visa for at least 7 years I guess (Used to be 5 years, but you better check on their website what the current rules are).If you really wish to come and settle in Australia, I suggest you apply for as a 'migrant'. The co-ordinations between the Government Organisations are of the highest level and it is not worth the risk. Also note that the IT Technology is highly efficient in Australia!
