Tips For Running Longer Distances

Long distance running tips?

Well so far the answer given to you told you a lot of stuff not to do. Don't guzzle water like there's not enough to go around - you're not likely to get dehydrated in a mile unless you're doing the run in the Sahara. Don't change your diet the night before, you don't gain anything carb loading for races shorter than a half marathon. Don't stretch cold muscles - jog a little before stretching to get the blood pumping and loosen up. Don't bother with stretching the night before, it won't do anything for you.

Avoid eating/drinking anything more than a sip or two of water for a half hour before the run so that your stomach is empty and doesn't cramp. Try to run an even pace the whole way - don't go out too fast.

Good luck, there isn't much you can do at this point other than just hit the track and see what happens.

What tips do you have for long distance runners?

A little life hack i learned back in the day when i used to run.Find a very very steep and long hill.Run up that hill 3 times a week, after doing this for about 2–3 months you will find that running a 5k on the road with with slight undulations will be super easy.A kid at my High School at the time was the 3rd fastest sprinter in England. After doing the method i explained above. We had a sports class and we had to do sprints. It was me against The 3rd fastest kid in England and i beat him easy, all the kids in my class could not believe i’d just beat this guy. When running on the road after doing the method i’ve explained, running on flat became super easy,my cardio was through the roof.Another thing. After you get back from your run, drink warm water.Boil your kettle for a minute and check the water is not too hot and is just warm . This allows your body to absorb the water much quicker and will serve you well for the next time you run.

What is the best way to run for a longer distance and for a longer duration too?

Depends on your condition, how much can you run now? 5K? 80K? Basically you should follow a training program than fits your goal, be constant, try not to get injured, eat well, and rest well. But you should be more specific on what you want to archive to give you a better advice.

What are some tips for long distance running in wet conditions?

I do a lot of trail running in Malaysia and this can include extensive time running through rivers and mud in a high humidity environment.Generally I would say over this distance blistering is not a huge issue. The most common sort of blistering is skin peeling rather than blood or liquid blisters and these aren't an issue during the race. Most of the time you will end up with lots of mud and sand in your shoes and its usually worth clearing your shoes every half hour or so - more if it is irritating. The water also generally acts as a cool effect and that seems to delay blisters - but at the cost of softening your feet and incresing the peeling effect described above.I've found that most trail running shoes now do a good job and rarely cause blisters. I prefer Salomans. Socks Black work socks are bad but most white running socks seem to work fine. I have a preference for very low cut socks so that I can see leeches easilyFor a longer run I will generally get a big glob of vaseline and coat my feet of my socks with it. I will ALWAYS take my shoes and socks off at rest breaks and try and dry the socks and my feet in the sun. This is absolutely critical. And generally put on some fresh socks afterwards (another reason for ankle socks - less weight to carry)As with all advice get out there and see what works for you before race day.

Tips to run faster and longer?

I would love to try out for the track team when school starts. It's just I don't feel like I'm good enough. I can say I run pretty fast. Not for long distances though. I get tired easily, probably for the lack of exercise I do. Always on the computer. Any tips?

Tips for running? Haven't ran in a long time?

I wanted to start exercising for "real" this time. I haven't done sports in a while. I've done track and everything in grade school but I'm in high school now and there isn't any sports that I like that are going on and maybe I could do lacrosse or something in the spring. I want to do a sport. The thing is...I wanna go jogging around my neighborhood and do like 1-2 miles. But I haven't ran in a while...like forever. I have music..which keeps me going. Also...my side hurts when I start running for a little bit? Its like someone is sticking a needle in me and I can't breathe really well...my doctor said he doesn't really know..which is dumb. Please help?! What to do before running?

THANKS! :)

What is the best way to get started with long distance running?

Easy … the secret to running long distances for me was one word. If you say this word the entire time, you’ll easily increase the intensity and duration. The word … is “easy”.Seriously … just keep repeating that word. Let me explain.(Ok she’s not a necessarily a “runner” but this marvelous photo needs no excuse. Besides it got your attention and this is important.)A little back story - I used to make fun of the “I-like-to-run-because-it’s-fun” crowd. In my opinion, there was nothing remotely enjoyable about getting sweaty, out of breath, tired and crampy in the matter of minutes trying to run.I made the decision to learn how to run long-distances years ago when a friend of mine wanted me to run a 5k with them. Honestly, I truly sucked my first time running any distance at all and even a 5k was difficult. It reminded me of the “mile run” I dreaded back in grade school. I was embarrassed to say the least.THE “EASY” TRICKNow I can run nearly non-stop and marathons aren’t crazy. It all came down to one simple word… “easy”.A friend of mine who had run marathons taught me the “easy” life hack to get passed the mental barrier that held me back during my normal “miserable” runs. She taught me to just repeat the word “easy” in my head during the entire run.I was skeptical, but it turned out that this tip was just the right magic that I needed to take running to the next level. Just try it.Stay great!ZAKARY STAHLSMITHFor more life advice check out my other semi-famous life hacks in my profile :) READ MORE BY ZAKARY STAHLSMITH HERE

Breathing tips for running?

this has happened to me in the past.

I don't know why but when we are running hard, we just want to focus on hurrying up and finishing, so we don't even care to think about our breathing. That isn't good.

When you are running, you want to be calm. Keep a steady breath. It doesn't matter the speed of your breath, just make sure it is steady.

When we run and have off-balanced breathing, our heart and lungs tend to ask us, "What the heck are you doing?" If we keep breathing off-balance, we just tend to get tired because our heart and lungs want to get back on a steady beat.

You want everything to be steady in running. Have your breathing be like your legs and heart in running. Your legs are moving at the same speed and pace. If one leg was going slower than the other, well i don't know what that would be called but it wouldn't be running. They have the same tempo. And like your heart, when you are running, your heart beats at the same speed as the other. It isn't, one heartbeat is slow then fast, then slow, then medium slow, then medium fast, and so on. It is STEADY.

Keep a steady beat, steady breathing.
