Tips On Fingertip Pain From Guitar

Fingertip pain?

It's on EVERY fingertip of both my hands. But the weird thing is it doesn't really bother me in life. It hurts when my fingertips get some type of pressure on them such as when I catch a football and when I tap my fingers. The thing is it ONLY pain. No numbness no burning no cramping no nothing. I haven't tried to fix it but just today I decided to start icing my fingertips. Anybody know what's happening to me? Also, I've had it for a while. Maybe two months but as I said, it doesn't bother me that much unless I purposely hurt my fingertips.

Bumps on finger tips after playing guitar?

So I started playing electric guitar again after stopping for a while. 3 of my fingers have bubble like bumps on the tips and they are filled with a clear liquid.

It's not the first time it happened to me; it always happens when I return to the guitar after quitting. But only now I started to wonder what the clear liquid actually is? Also, why does my skin respond in this way when its exposed to the friction of the guitar strings?

Learning to play the guitar... bruised finger tips!?

A little pain is normal, but there should be no bruising. The action on your guitar may be set too high. Take it to a repair shop and ask them to 'set it up' for you.

Many people start out on really cheap, junky 'student' guitars, and this is a major mistake. Your fingers will hurt from the crappy action, and you won't practice as much as you should. Get a good used mid-range, name-brand guitar like Epiphone, Ovation, Fender, Ibanez, Takamine, or Yamaha. Your playing will improve instantly, and you will learn much faster, and enjoy it a lot more.

I learn guitar on my own and my fingers are hurting a lot . What do I do?

Lots of people complain about finger pain when they start learning guitar, and most of them give up learning because of that pain. The complaints of people have gone that much higher that few of the companies started manufacturing and selling this :These are called finger guards for guitar players to avoid hurting your fingers. As you asked for what you should do for not hurting your fingers, then this is the option. It will cost you around $5 to $10, pricing depends upon country to country.Suitable for any kind of people who are interested to learn guitarWhen i learnt playing guitar my fingers bled as i was practicing too much because i wanted to pass that pain phase of my fingers because i knew once i pass this phase my fingers will become callus ( hardening and roughening of your skin) then it will be easy for me to play comfortablyBut in my opinion this should not be used because this wont help you forever. As you need to make your finger's skin hard and rough by practicing more and more and more, by using this you might not feel comfortable also.Always remember " No pain No gain".   Choice is yours.Cheers :)

Guitar Playing, damaged ring-finger tip?

edit

@gtarczar:

Yeah it's the truth, I've never taken a class before. My skills are self-taught. I plan on taking a class someday though.

I'm now getting into chords, and I'm playing really fast, so fast that I can even go down on the neck to different frets with chords. Hehe, I did get a little carried away and "in the zone", so I started tightening my grip on the fret board, and strumming wildly, and that's when I pushed down too hard with my ring finger and got the pricking sensation.

hopefully It will get better on it's own, I think I had an incident like this before, but I can't remember. I'll just slow down on the guitar a bit... I also did some research on it, seems like it's pretty normal.

UGH...what will stop my finger tips from hurting when i play the guitar?

Keep working on it, They will form.

My fingers hurt when I play the guitar?

1) Your finger tips are gonna hurt until you develop calluses. Lay off and let them heal a bit or you'll just wind up with blisters that will take even longer to heal. Ice or ice water helps relieve the pain. Don't try to ignore the pain and keep playing. In the end it is very counter-productive because you wing up tensing your hand, arms, shoulders, etc etc. and that leads to poor posture and poor technique that is very hard to unlearn.

2) After your fingers heal, practice in shorter sessions to build those calluses. When learning to walk ya gotta take baby steps before you can run. It takes about 6-8 weeks to build fairly good calluses and it will take a year for them to develop fully if you practice 15-30 minutes a day.

3) If you have properly tuned up (using a tuning fork or electronic tuner), the tension in the strings is what you have to live with, so either the "action" is too high (strings too high off the fingerboard) because the bridge or nut saddles are too high, and / or the neck is warped, and / or the tension rod in the neck is mis-adjusted.

4) Take your guitar to a music store that sells guitars and has a knowledgeable staff. They should be able to confirm if the above is true and they can probably fix the problem or offer other good suggestions.

5) When your fingers hurt too much to play, practice fingerings without pressing hard on the strings (or get a cheap guitar with no strings on it). You need to build hand and finger "memory" anyway as well as the stretches your fingers need to make between frets. Expand your repetoire and try learning to play slide guitar too, where you don't need to finger the strings so much.

6) Hang in there! This is where too many aspiring guitar players give up. I had a heck of a time in the beginning because I started with a horrible old plywood Harmony 12 string acoustic! But someone gave me this same advice and now, 35 years later, I'm still playing. Not great, but not bad either. And if I lay off too long...back to the baby steps to rebuilt the calluses, although it only takes a week or two because the skin on my fingers has become so thick over the years.

p.s. And don't ignore your pinky! It's way useful, so build strength and a good callus on the little guy.

How long does the pain in the fingers due to playing guitar for the first time last?

It varies form individual to individual. Everyone experience the pain though. Starting out with chords, the open ones, I think the pain will be there for few weeks. You would probably be experiencing the pain in your tip of your fingers and at the base of your fingers due to the stretching, especially, while playing the open G or open C, for that matter. Next round of pain will be when you will start learning barre chords. That will be due to the barring of fret. Pain will be in your barring finger and wrist. I will suggest you to get a bowl of warm water and let your palms in it for sometime after your practice sessions. I had this advise as I started out and I would say it did made me feel comfortable. All said and done, let's be honest, the pain isn't of the unbearable kind. Perhaps it's your beginner days and it has freaked you out. Happened with my roommate so much so that he switched to keyboard within first week... Still to make any progress there. So, I will suggest if you love playing guitar, just keep thinking about 4-6 months ahead and visualize how great will it be when you can strum through your favorite songs with changing chords, or even you will end up writing your first song since you touched the instrument. The feeling, I am telling you is, heavenly. So, keep playing   :)

My finger tip hurts..?

See your health care provider as soon as possible. Felon is infection of the soft tissue (pulp) at the fingertip. An infection of the fingertip can lead to an abscess, which create pressure and death of nearby tissue. The fingertip becomes very swollen and firm with intense throbbing pain.
The doctor makes the diagnosis by examining the affected finger. If a felon is not treated promptly, the underlying bone, joint, or tendons may become infected. Minor felons may be treated with warm soak several times a day to increase blood flow. An antibiotic is usually needed. Treatment may require prompt surgical drainage of the abscess as well. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

Is it normal for fingers to hurt after playing guitar?

Yes, only if you are a beginner. When you first time play guitar for a month, the fingers might hurt because of sharp strings. But in some days, you will see, calluses will be formed on your fingers because of which your fingers won't hurt anymore. Calluses are formed on the skin when that part of skin is frequently rubbed or pressurized. These calluses are solid patch over your skin which doesn't let the strings hurt your fingers. That is why they are called as Guitarists' lucky charm.:)And yes, they are not harmfull unless they are infected with dust or other such stuff.
