Tips On Seed Starting

Starting out TTC Tips?

My husband and I have just started recently to try and conceive this month after me going off my birth control pill Ortho Lo. We are using a charting system to see when my fertility days are to get a better idea when I ovulate. I am taking Mucinex several days before I ovulate as I have been told that helps with the cervical mucus as well as we are also using "Pre Seed". I have been taking folic acid and we don't drink or smoke and eat healthy. After each baby dance then I will stay laying down for at least 15 minutes with a pillow under me hips. Based on my chart I will be ovulating tomorrow and we have been active for once a day for the past 4 days. This is our first month trying so I know it may take some time and we haven't got to the point yet to buy a basel Temperature and ovulating tests yet..but will if we don't conceive in a few months. We have been to our obgyn and she had done a lycroscopy a couple months back when I had my appendex removed and she said all of the female organs looks great and I have youth on my side as I am 25. Does anyone else have any tips that you could suggest or I am doing everything that is normal. We aren't stressing about it and just having fun while TTC and know it will happen in good time. Thanks for any advice and your experience you might share. :D Blessings!

What are the best Tips for Starting Seeds Indoors?

I think the most important issue is timing. You want to be starting your spring seeds 6 - 8 weeks before you will be planting them outside. If you are not sure of your timing, check with your extension agent to see if they have any pamphlets about planting times. If you don’t know where to find your agent you can go to National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Pull down your state in the first box and pull down extension in the second box. Hit apply. For complete step by step instructions on starting seeds, see this blog post. Don’t forget to harden off your seedlings before planting outside. You should start exposing your plants to more sunlight for longer periods of time until they are used to being outside.

Can I start seed funding with less than 1L Rs?

You can!  When you evaluate an investment opportunity,  one of the key things that you need to look at is that the investment planned will take the startup to the level it is desired!  If not, then we don't make the investment.  In other words, does 1L or less enough for the startup to reach the next level?

Is it worth starting seeds indoors?

Depends on how many you grow. I only need a few herb plants and starting from seed is wasteful. If I need two oregano and have 25 seeds, what do I do with the 23 or so I am not using. They may last 5 years , maybe, but then again I am out 15 seeds or so. To me buying the 2 plants makes more sense. Now the 40 or 60 marigolds that I need are a different story. It makes more sense to plant the seeds for these. The 5 or 6 dollars for seeds is preferable to the 20 to 30 dollars for the plants. So if you only need a few, the plants are more economical than seed. Also if you are going to start a lot of seeds, I do several hundred, the equipment costs do get expensive. I have several hundred dollars worth of lights and heating mats and seed starting trays. To me it is a hobby that I love and the costs are one time for the most part. The equipment lasts for many years. Annual costs are soil and small pots mostly.

I'm looking to start a seed fund. Is it best to structure it as an 'evergreen' fund?

it will be far more difficult to raise the fund in the market becuase all the investors want some certainty for exit. If you have an nth fund which you are raising, then investors would know that if i want an exit, you will anyway be creating funds out of some exit and would be able to structure some exit. So theoretically yes you can, practically it will increase fund raising effort and timeline by a long mile.

Is seed-starting soil necessary or can I use regular soil?

Seed starting mix is a special mix for seedlings and young plants. It is sterilized so that damping off is reduced, and a light mix so that tender roots can grow thru it easily and fast. It has more vermiculite in it than the standard mix, and drains very well.

Standard growing mix, unless you are using Baccto or something like it, is pretty heavy for starting seeds, and it is not sterilized. Sometimes it stays too wet and fungus sets in your seedlings.

We always used a seed starter mix in the greenhouse when I worked at a retail garden center.

My plant is starting to die already!?

I just went to my german chamomile plant this morning to check on it and the tips of some leaves are starting to turn yellow, I even have a few dead leaves. I'm new at this and am trying to keep the plant alive, should I trim off the yellow leaves or should I leave it? Any help would be nice!
