To Be A Us Marshal Do You Have To Go To The Training Program In Glynco Ga Or Can You Go Some

Life of a US Marshal?

Federal Marshals work on a schedule much like that of a regular police officer. They work a rotation shift. Sometimes day, sometimes nights. They also work when needed on Holidays. They do witness protection of fed. witnesses, protect judges, do bailiff duties in federal court, serve federal warrents, round up fugitives, etc. Training for the U.S. Marshal's Service is done at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.

Who was arguably the worst General in the Civil War?

Excellent answers so far; my personal vote would probably be Hood. But so far no one has mentioned John Frémont. As commander of the entire western theater, on August 30, 1861, Frémont declared marshal law in Missouri. He ordered that prisoners were to be executed and that all property of anyone aiding the “rebels" was to be seized, with all such slaves to be freed immediately. The aghast Lincoln regime immediately disavowed and replaced Frémont. But Frémont's crowning “achievement" was enabling Jackson's Shenandoah Valley Campaign. This started as a Confederate raid on a supply depot at Winchester, Virginia. Jackson easily overwhelmed the small US garrison and destroyed the supplies. Then he retreated down the Shenandoah Valley toward Harrisonburg.Frémont had about the same number of troops in the loyal area of Virginia (now West Virginia), and he was ordered to intercept the retreating Jackson. He was specifically ordered to advance to Harrisonburg, turn left, and march north up the Valley Pike (now Interstate 81). Had he done so he might or might not have beaten Jackson, but even if Jackson had succeded in extricating his Army from Frémont, Jackson would have been crushed by the other US armies converging on his position. In that case it would have been several US armies emerging from the Shenandoah Valley instead of Jackson's Confederates at the critical point of McClellan”s Peninsular Campaign. It is hard to see how even McClellan could have failed under those circumstsnces. But Frémont decided to take a short cut to Woodstock. Yes, he got to Woodstock faster than he would have by going to Harrisonburg first as ordered, but that allowed Jackson to get past Woodstock first. Frémont then turned left and proceeded north, away from Jackson.Meanwhile Jackson marched all over the Shenandoah Valley, avoiding several other US Armies that were chasing him, and ultimately defeating two of them in detail before they could link up and crush him. Then as other Union Armies were wasted still hunting Jackson in the Valley he brought his men in to aid Lee in the Seven Days Battle that decided the Peninsular Campaign. (Jackson and his men were not all that much use during that battle, but they had already made their huge contribution by pulling far more Union troops into the Shenandoah Valley.)By not following that one order Frémont probably extended the war by two years.

Help! I want to become a Custom Border Patrol Agent!

Go to www.cbp.gov and apply online. Bad credit alone won't ruin your chances; you have to show that you have attempted to pay the bills that you owe. Other stuff is honesty willing to accept your mistakes and a stellar background. I trained in Brunswick (Glynco, GA) FLETC. Artesia is in the middle of the desert but I heard it's a great facility. Air marshals train there too. I can tell you that it's very intense, you have to study immigration law, Spanish, lots of PT, a kick butt obstacle course and other things......binders piling up to 5" or more. No worries though, you will have weekends off. Life after training can be an epiphany. Your place of residence will be far away from big cities. Think about moving from a city with 600K residents to 4K, there might be some adjustment problems. If you're a small town person then no big deal.

Do FBI agents have to work as regular cops first? Or does the FBI take people and put them through their own academy to make them LEO certified?

No. The FBI has its own academy in Quantico Virginia.Even if you were a police officer previously, you will have to go through courses at the FBI Academy.FBI special agents who become FBI police officers must get Federal Law Enforcement Certified in Glynco Georgia and FBI Police Advance Training Program certified at the FBI Academy. For more see:FBI Special Agent Requirements

How difficult is it for a police officer to become an FBI or other federal agent? Do they require their applicants to have some type of degree?

“Difficult” is a relative term, but while I was with the FBI, I know several officers who applied to be FBI agents and were subsequently hired. The bureau requires a Bachelor’s degree as well as several years of professional experience. The truth is, in order to get hired, the FBI likes to see law degrees, Masters degrees, and a lot of professional experience, but an advanced degree besides a Bachelors degree is not required. Many people will tell you that degrees in Criminal Justice (or related education) will get you hired. That’s not true. I’ve seen every degree you can possibly imagine—including degrees in business, accounting, engineering, political science, criminal justice, medicine, law…you name, if there’s a degree for it, the bureau has hired someone with it. When I entered the FBI, I had a Bachelors degree in criminal justice, a Masters degree in criminology, and almost 10 years of investigative experience with the DEA and OPM. Everything you need to know about the bureau’s qualifications can be found here:FBIJOBSThe bottom line is, if you want to be considered, you have to apply! Do it today!I hope this helps.

Is it common for a special agent from one agency (DEA, FBI, ATF, OSI, etc.) to move to another agency as a special agent after some time in another one? Do they have to go through the new agency’s academy?

It’s certainly not unheard of. In fact, since there’s an age limit, it’s common for people who want to join a particular agency as an 1811 (“Federal Criminal Investigator”), but who are nearing the cut-off, to take a position at any agency that will hire them, then transfer afterwards to the agency they really want, taking their seniority with them, having made the cut-off for 1811’s.Agents of the FBI and the DEA get their basic training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. They don’t take the same course, but they take their specific courses at the same facility. All other 1811’s take the basic Criminal Investigator’s course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA. Most agencies have what is called a “post-academy,” afterwards that is specific to that particular agency.Deputy US Marshals, for example, will probably learn the tricks of fugitive tracking, prisoner transportation, etc. Secret Service Agents (who have their own training facility, separate from FLETC, though they also use FLETC; it’s located in Laurel, MD, and it’s called the James J. Rowley Center) will learns about counterfeiting, government check fraud, investigating threats to the President, how to work personal protection, etc. ATF agents will learns about gunrunning, explosives, bootlegging, contraband tobacco products, etc. And so on, through all the other federal criminal investigative agencies. If a Deputy Marshal transfers to the Secret Service, he would probably not have to take the basic investigators’ course, but would have to go through the post-academy training at Rowley. Secret Service agents likewise if they transferred to the Marshals Service. If either one transferred to the Bureau or the DEA, they’d have to go through the whole Quantico basic course of whichever of those two agencies they transferred to. Likewise, if an FBI agent or a DEA agent transferred to the Marshals Service or the Secret Service, they’d probably have to take the Basic Investigator’s course, as well as the post-academy.
