Should I join the baseball team?

I was thinking about joining the baseball team this year as a 9th grader in high school. The problem is that I've never played on a sports team in my life. I'm more of a mathlete than an athlete. But I remember playing baseball in middle school and I wasn't that bad. I could bat well.

However, I have a few things setting me back. My sister's boyfriend is the captain of the Baseball team and when my sister told him that I'd want to try baseball, he became excited and wanted to teach me. I'm kind of shy because I never spoke to him before, and it's awkward talking to my sister's boyfriend. They're both seniors and I'm a freshman. He wanted to take me to a sports store and try on a baseball mit and find the right size for me, but I can't see us bonding. It just seems awkward.

I'm shy he might make fun of me. In the hallways at school I kind of avoid him and he seems like he's avoiding me too. I mean, I'm not as muscular at him and I'm scared he might like make fun of me during practice. I don't know what to do. I really want to play baseball. But he told my sister that if I'm not doing good he won't make me join the team, but won't that be embarrassing?

I don't know. Should I join? I don't want to be viewed as just a nerd. I want to play sports, but not for looks. I want to play because I want to try it out and see if it's my sport. Please help me!

I think I might just join it sophomore year when they all graduate but I don't know. Try outs are in like 2 weeks. Should I try it or not?

I wanna join the volleyball team, but I'm shy. Got any tips?

Just go for it! If you enjoy playing the sport and are good at it there shouldn't be anything holding you back. Volleyball is a great way to meet new people and even if you're shy I find that most people are pretty accepting. Also don't worry about making mistakes, everyone makes them and people aren't going to think badly of you for making them especially at high school/ recreational level. Becoming more fearless will take sometime but as you play more and more you will become more confident and comfortable playing. When I played varsity volleyball as a grade 9 I was just some quiet, scared little kid but by grade 11 I was team mvp and in grade 12 I was captain. There is no where to go but up so don't let your nerves get the best of you!

Should I join the rowing team?

I would agree wiht your dad, crew is very demanding. Its not like one of those sports that that you can show up like one or two times a week and expect to be put in a boat like everything's cool. Though, if you live up north, crew seems to be easier to schedule with in the winter since you're off the water and are erging and working out on land, so the practicews are sometimes shorter and spaced. Crew is also physically demanding and requires your whole strength and self. Rowing is a great sport, though, and I really don't want to scare you away. I started out like you. I absolutely refused to participate in any sport what so ever. I participated in a summer learn to row and that's when I fell in love with the sport. I stayed, but I was very overweight and not as strong as I should have been. I worked as hard as I could and challegend myself everyday. Now I am rowing in A boats for my club and I am one of the top girls for 2k splits on my team. Rowing is a very different and fun sport. I have met most of my recent friends there. It's a good sport to start in high school and carry on for the rest of your life. So basicaly, rowing is a good sport to meet firends at and gain expirience and strength, but only if your are truly deidcated. I recommend you talk to your mom and compromise that you try out a summer learn to row. At some clubs (mine inlcuded) they are free and range from one week to all summer. I recommend you find a cheap if not free 2 week expirience for your situation. Good luck and have fun!

Is 15 too late to join a swimming team if you are fat?

This question is multifaceted with many variables affecting the answer. I will do my best to provide the possible scenarios. If this is a no cut club team, you can probably join because many club swim teams (as opposed to school teams) have different levels for people of different abilities. There will likely be a spot for you even with no experience. If it is a club team with cuts, it really depends on your speed in the water, which can be measured in tryouts. Based on your performance, you will either be put on the team or be rejected. If it is a high school team, there are multiple levels of talent per team. For example, at my high school, we have Varsity, JV (Junior Varsity), and JV2. Coaches will likely find a spot for you in this case.To summarize, it is pretty likely you can find a place on a team and it is definitely not too late. Swimming is a fantastic fitness sport that works almost every part of your body, and you should give it a try if you can. If you don't make the team first try, you can train in the offseason to get faster and become more fit. Best of luck to you.

I'm too nervous to join a sports team. Advice?

I want to do cross country but im too nervous. im really shy/quite around people i do not know well. I'm worried i might run to slow or weird. This would be my first time doing a sports team for SCHOOL. I have ran track for a track club and played b-ball when i was younger. I know a few girls that run CC but i dont have any of my guy friends that do. The CC coach (who i know very well) asked me to join, but i said i was out of shape. He told me he would train me. He is also the track coach. Should I wait to do track w/ my friends so i wont be as much scared?? I will train myself until then. Also, is CC hard for beginners?

Do girls like a shy, smart, funny, sensitive athletic guys?

As long as hes not too sensitive lol! I like guys who aren't afraid to talk about their feelings with me and all that, but I would hate to be with a guy who got upset about everything or cried frequently over dumb things (i.e. a guy that acted like a PMSing girl). As long as you're only slightly sensitive, I'd say you'd be the PERFECT guy.

My brother is a shy, funny, athletic guy and because hes so shy, you'd think he'd have no luck with the ladies, but they FLOCK to him - it's so unfair lol.

I’m joining a volleyball team. How do I make new friends with my shy personality?

Try to find a common ground. I'm shy, too. A good question to ask (besides what their name is) is what position they play, or what they wish to get. Ask how long they've played, what activities their involved in, etc. Compliment something about their clothing or hair. It's okay to be shy. I'm shy but I have friends because I'm always trying to be nice around them. Be genuine, hun, and you'll have friends. It's better to have a kind friend who is shy than a friend who is mean and not shy at all.

Scared to join girls soccer team?

You'll be ok. Don't be scared. I had a lot of soccer injuries (Nose, wrist, knee, ankle, arm) You just have to beaggressivee. It doesn't matter if you never played soccer before, you can try soccer camps over the summer before you start 9th grade. It will help you get better. You can even learn a few moves. But you can go outside and start passing withsomebodyy. It's not that scary. You just gotta beaggressiver and fast and you will do great.
I really think you should try soccer!

How can I learn to not be shy so I can join clubs and do sports tryouts at my high school?

Take charge of your body. You are in total control. I think the thing that will hold most people back from such activities is the notation of what others might say if you fail.Let me tell you a little storyA guy was selling newspapers in new york and a person (lets call him person A) came to him and said hello. This person A was accompanied by a person B.When person A said hello, the newspaper guys said “f**k you”. And the two carried on their way. The next day person A was again accompanied by person B and he again said hello to the same bad mouth newspaper guy.And again the news guy said “s**** you”. And they walked away again. The third day the same happened with person A happily saying hello and newspapers guy saying something bad. On this day the person B asked person A “Why do you say hello everyday when you know he's not gonna reply with kind words?”And here's the lesson line. Person A replied with: “I will not let him decide how I act/behave.”Meaning you need to take control and fail for as many times as it takes but DO NOT LET THE CROWD DECIDE HOW YOU TAKE YOUR STEPS. You are free. They will laugh and make fun but you have to stay on track.Hope I helped buddy
