Training To Do The Splits- Best Methods And Stretches More In Description .

If I stretched everyday, how long does it take to be able to do splits?

It really depends from person to person. How genetically gifted are you and how bad do you wanna achieve your goals.Always remember hard work beats genetics, no matter what you can always change your genetics with dedication-drive-discipline-determination nothing is impossible, everything is achievable as soon as you put your mind and hard work to it, when your mind burns your body follows, you get controlled by your mind, so start working on them splits and stop thinking about it, stop thinking of how much time it is going to take you rather start making an effort about it a change.Stretch after your workouts always, not before your workouts, because if you do you will end up injured and you will lack your workout performance because of the micro traumas you cause on the muscle tissue by your stretches, which will hurt you in general. Some people genetically possess really high muscle elasticity they are hypermobile from their genetics, while others are hypomobile. It took me around 1 months to reach a full split, i was genetically gifted with high muscle elasticity and i was really hyper mobile.

I just started martial arts again what is the best way to the splits and how long would it take?

As Muhhamad Said, the BEST way to the splits is consistency and steady pushes. It normally takes people a period of 1-2 months of CONSISTENT stretching and training, but can be done in as little as 2 weeks. The muscles you're stretching are not strained on a regular basis for most people. so over time they will return to their natural length and form unless you constantly "train" them to be able to stretch further and further.I won't get into what warm ups you should or shouldn't be doing, but in order to master the splits, you need to be stretching a bit past the point it's uncomfortable.  It doesn't HAVE to be painful, but like they say, pain with gain is the best way to train. Each time it becomes natural to stretch to that point, go further! by getting into that "uncomfortable zone" and waiting till it become comfortable, you're able to gradually push to full split. For some people the discomfort never goes away because of their build type, but when done properly the pain and strain on your muscles WILL go away.Eventually, the gains you get will put you to the point where you're 180 degrees. Don't stop there! be able to do the front-back as well, stretch so that you can face all 3 directions, and if you feel comfortable, you can practice going past 180 by elevating your feet with a gap to train your muscles to hold a set height.I find this video to be particularly motivating before I stretch out every day, and most of all it tells me to never give up!

What is the best type of streches for doing the splits?

I stretch quite a bit but I really did not notice my flexibility improving much for years after until I started trying a new method. This method is something I learned from my BJJ professor who is the best BJJ instructor in the world according to various BJJ magazines. If you want to do a sport like BJJ for many years, you must develop healthy habits that become a part of your life that are implemented daily. This method is done by performing static stretches after a hot bath. A sauna will work as well but I prefer a hot bath. When you stay in hot water for about 20-30 minutes your tissues become very supple. You will notice your flexibility will increase instantly and you will be able to go in to stretches much deeper than you usually do. If you keep performing stretches afters hot baths for a couple weeks, you will cary over this new gainedflexibility in your daily life and workouts. One thing to make sure, not to do, is getting ahead of your self and pushing too hard during this session. Try to slowly increase your flexibility and do not push too hard or force anything. I usually stretch for 20 minutes after a 20 minute hot bath. Sometimes repeat this routine 2-3 times depending on how sore I am. It works wonders. This will tremendously help your recovery and you will be a much more flexible athlete. BJJ players that have tight glutes and have trouble playing guard should definitely implement this routine. Judo athletes who want a better flexibility to execute techniques such as uchimata (wizard) should also try this as well. Thai boxers also can put this tool to good use. Athletes need to be more flexible to perform better and prevent injury. This is a great tip that will serve you well. Make sure to progress slowly.

Anyone know the best way to learn how to do the splits & a russian split leap?

Anyone have any good flexiablity techniques and/or streches that i can do to perform these two? I am trying to get back into shape for my tryouts and..(ovibiously its been a while)..any ideas would be great! ; )

Leg stretcher?

I'm thinking about buying the "Versaflex Leg Strechter" from Century Martial Arts. I was wondering if leg stretchers would help me have a higher side kick and become flexible enough to do a fowards split. Should I buy one, or find other ways?

Achieving front splits in late 20's: When do you give up?

You don't give up because it's absolutely possible. I know many people who got crazy flexible in their 30s! Even I got to do splits in my late-20s, after overcoming a thigh injury that had impacted my flexibility greatly. Here's 85% of the method I followed: Episode 85 - Splits in 4 months? If I did it, you can do it too with this leg flexibility stretching routine.I did it 4x a week, and in a few months I could do it. The rest 15% is actually trying to do a split, or hip flexor stretches.

Training alone disadvantages?

I warm up for 10 to 15 minutes using a home bicycle then I stretch a bit hips back legs etc then I kick and punch a punching bag after that I do some pushups, situps and sqauts after that I stretch some more mainly I try to do splits etc after that I walk around a bit to cool down is this good or is it dangerous like will kicking a punching bag if I'm not warmed up or stretched enough will it cause injury to my knees or something? Please and Thank you

SPLITS (gymnastics)?

As a competitive gymnast (in my youth) and martial artist/instructor I can tell you from years of experience two bodies are not made a like. Not everyone was made to drop into a full split. But consistency in stretching will aid you in maximizing your flexibility for martial arts.

I must ask though... Why do you feel it is necessary to do the splits to study martial arts? I can't do the splits (all the way to the ground) and yet I train, teach and compete in two different styles of martial arts. What's the need driving this desire????

Here are my suggestions to you. Always warm your muscles up before stretching, walking, riding a stationary bike, light aerobics, etc.... will do the trick. You should take a good five to ten minutes to get your heart rate up, you should break a sweat. Remember, you can't stretch cold muscles.

You should stretch twice per day morning and night, holding each posture for fifteen to thrity seconds and breathing deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Get a book on flexation or flexology to aid with types of stretches that will most benefit you in developing the splits. I suggest do a full stretching regimen starting at your neck and head and working down your body to your ankles and toes. I can teach you a full routine but it's way to long to type it all out. Your whole body is used in martial arts so keep your whole body limber.

I would tell you to simply go visit the studio you want to train with and ask your instructor there how they warm up and stretch.

Another suggestion; take some Yoga or Palates classes to get a good stretch as well. Lot's of competitive athletes I know do Yoga to benefit their BJJ. It's good for you and helps you breath more deeply and focus.

well that's it. I hope these tips help you out.
