Traveling To Canada From The U.s. With A Green Card.

Do Iraqis with a green card need a visa to Canada traveling from the US?

So an Iraqi citizen with an Iraqi passport living in the united states with green card. Does he need a travel visa to visit Canada?
Please don't google or cheek Canadian websites to get me the answer as I've done that already. I need the answer r from someone who had been in the same situation or know of one already and KNOWS the answer for sure.

Needless to say, no one wants to buy the airline tickets just to be denied entry at the border because of not having a visa. I have emailed the Canadian consulate in the US and they simply didn't answer. Apparently when they think the answer is very clear on their websites; they just simply ignore you. Not very nice, I must say!

Thanks

Can i travel to canada without the greencard of usa?

If you are living in USA and have a US Lawful Permanent Resident card (also called a "green" card), then you will need that identification to get into Canada. You will also need that card to be allowed back into USA at the end of your visit to Canada.

If you do NOT have a green card, then you need another piece of accepted travel document to get into Canada. For most travellers that are not American citizens, that means you need to show your passport. And if you carry a passport from certain countries that are not part of the Visa Waiver Program, then you may also need a travel visa before being allowed into Canada.

This website shows you the valid WHTI documents you can use if you are an American or living in USA:
http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/...

And this website explains who needs a visa to enter Canada if you are trying to travel here with your passport. (This visa rule applies if you do not have and/or do not show a US green card.)

US Green Card holder - need to travel to Canada?

U.S. green card holders do not need a visa t visit Canada. You will need your passport from your home country and you must carry your green card to be allowed back into the U.S. At 1st site below, see 2nd paragraph under "Visitor Visa Exemptions." On 2nd site see paragraph on International Travel. Only U.S. citizens may travel to Canada by Land without a passport ...and only til June 1. If you do not currently have a passport from your home country, you can apply for one at the nearest embassy or consulate of that country in the U.S.

How do you go to Canada with a green card?

Green Card holders are still citizens of their nation of origin. They receive no special benefit in immigrating to Canada due to their US status. US status, outside of US citizenship, is irrelevant to Canadian immigration. So the answer is “They move to Canada like any other immigrant: By qualifying to immigrate.”.One needs to have skills or family and meet Canadian immigration qualification requirements. If they do, they can then move to Canada when the immigration visa process says they can.The same applies to US citizens except US citizens qualify for the TN visa, an option not available to Green Card holders (unless they are from Mexico).

Can you work in Canada if you have U.S. green card?

No.If you are a Canadian citizen holding a US green card, yes you can work in Canada .If you are somebody who has a Canadian work permit of some sorts and have a US green card, you can work in Canada. But just having a US green card is not enough, heck even having a US citizenship is not enough and you will never be able to work in Canada without the credentials ( canada citizenship, pr or work permit). You can however travel and tour Canada without a visa if you have a GC or a US citizenship.also, immigration in USA will sulk if you try to work in Canada while holding a US green card. They really want a US green card holder to settle down in America. The whole point of a GC becomes absurd if you work in another country. It is not illegal but is frowned upon and if you get a tough immigration officer, you can get into trouble.

Can you use an expired passport and green card to travel to Canada?

Both countries, Canada and the Unites States do not require U.S. Green Card holders to hold a passport.

The Canadian Guide for Transporters state:
Permanent residents of the United States may travel to Canada from the United States or Saint-Pierre and Miquelon without passports, travel documents or visas provided they produce satisfactory evidence of their identify and status. However, if these persons travel to Canada from any other part of the world they require passports (or travel documents) and are visa-exempt (provided they can substantiate their status as a U.S. permanent resident).

On the US CBP advice site you can read:
ALL persons * (see LPR and military exceptions below), including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda are required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document.
If you look on the asterix (*) exceptions you can read:
* Lawful Permanent Residents (Green card holder's) do NOT need a passport to enter the United States, however you may need a passport to enter another country. Please contact the embassy of the foreign country you will be traveling to for their requirements.

I have added this information in details since there are some people here who aren't able to read and interpret provisions and who are giving the same wrong answers over and over again.
