Tremors In Body After Taking Risperdal

Should I be afraid to take Risperdal?

I would be afraid to take it.
It is a pretty powerful anti-psychotic medication, not an anti-anxiety medicine. I wouldn't worry so much about death, but I would worry about involuntary muscle movements (tremors), sedation, muscle weakness, or other side effects.

Plus I would worry about taking an anti-psychotic medicine if I wasn't psychotic (are you have hallucinations or delusions? are you schizophrenic? if not, I wouldn't take Risperdal)

Help accidentally took Risperdal?

My Brothers risperdal bottle is right next to my antibiotics and the bottles are identical and I accidentally took a 5 MG last night. I woke up this morning and feel like hell, how long does this stuff Take to wear off for just the one dose? I'm 18.

Does risperdal really help you sleep?

Risperdal/risperidone is an anti psychotic not a sleeping tablet. I wonder if you got a small dose of it or if you have the full rate for treating psychosis. Why did you get it is your insomnia very bad? Not sure what insane insomniac means! If it's a low dose it may not be very helpful for sleep although it will help you stay calmer.

I was on this for a short time and then changed to Seroquel/quetiapine which is very similar and they do help you sleep if you get the full dose.

Sadly these drugs have side effects, all of them do but not necessarily the same ones. Most of them put on weight dropping the metabolic rate and making you crave carbs they can also cause diabetes. They can make you feel dozzy through out the day. Risperdal made me wet myself which is why I changed to Seroquel! I did have a problem in that department anyway.

Good luck

Alcohol and risperdal?

From Janssen's website: "The most common adverse reactions observed in all clinical trials with RISPERDAL occurring at a rate of at least 10% were somnolence, increased appetite, fatigue, rhinitis, upper respiratory tract infection, vomiting, coughing, urinary incontinence, increased saliva, constipation, fever, tremors, muscle stiffness, abdominal pain, anxiety, nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, rash, restlessness, and indigestion."

"RISPERDAL may affect your driving ability; therefore, do not drive or operate machinery before talking to your healthcare professional.

RISPERDAL may affect alertness and motor skills; use caution until the effect of RISPERDAL is known"

"Avoid alcohol while taking RISPERDAL."

My advice: Drinking alcohol while on Risperdal will increase the risk and severity of side effects. The actual amount or severity will depend on the amount of alcohol and other factors and will vary by indivudual. I would recommend against it.

Of course, if you are thinking of skipping your Risperdal in order to have a couple of beers than I say DO NOT SKIP YOUR MEDS.... go ahead and have 1 or 2 beers over the course of the game....but have someone else drive you home!

Reality check people..... a lot of answers will be "don't do it" but if you find yourself in a certain situation, pick the lesser of two evils!

Health effects of the drug risperdal?

Pros: level mood, improved sleep

Side effects: Anxiety; Restlessness; Drowsiness, Blurred Vision; when beginning... increased sensitivity to sunlight; Rash or Redness of skin; Tremors in hands; Movement Disorder; Tics; Decreased Libido or performance; Problems in urination or increased urination.

If you have not had these side effects you probably won't get them...if you do speak to your MD right away.

You need to speak to your MD about your dosage level.
DO NOT change dose without speaking to MD.
DO NO stop without MD's instructions, your symptoms & side effects might get worse if you don't wean off medication.

Some people do have bad side effects like 1st answerer, but if it is helping you & you only have some trouble getting up in AM. It might be right medicine for you.

You might try taking the medicine earlier in the evening (if you take it at night) that way it might be easier to get up in the AM
