Tried To Erase All Content In Ipod

What does 'Erase all content and settings' on an iPhone do exactly?

While most of the other answers already explain the results rather effectively, I wanted to add a bit of technical info to the mix….Technically, what the Erase all content and settings option does under the hood is destroy the encryption keys that are used to encrypt ALL data stored on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The data remains on the device, but it’s rendered completely inaccessible as it’s encrypted and the keys used to encrypt that data have been permanently and securely erased. From page 10 of Apple’s iOS Security Guide:[1]The “Erase all content and settings” option in Settings obliterates all the keys in Effaceable Storage, rendering all user data on the device cryptographically inaccessible. Therefore, it’s an ideal way to be sure all personal information is removed from a device before giving it to somebody else or returning it for service. Important: Do not use the “Erase all content and settings” option until the device has been backed up, as there is no way to recover the erased data. This is actually an important distinction, as it explains how an iOS device can be securely erased in a matter of seconds. Anybody who has ever tried to “secure wipe” a hard drive knows that it can take quite a bit of time for your computer to go through the entire hard drive and write over the data several times, block by block. In fact, prior to iOS 3.0 and the iPhone 3GS — the first iPhone that included hardware encryption — the Erase all content and settings option used to take a couple of hours to go through your entire flash storage and erase the data block by block.Hardware encryption was introduced to make “remote wipe” more effective as a realistic security option. After all, if somebody was really trying to get access to your data, a remote wipe that takes a couple of hours to securely erase everything on your device would not truly be a secure option — an investigator or identity thief could disassemble the device, cut power, and remove the flash storage chips before the processor could erase all of the data, and then use forensic tools to read the data from the flash storage directly.Footnotes[1] https://www.apple.com/business/d...

Can I sync my iPod to iTunes and erase all the files on iTunes, instead of the files on my iPod?

No, sync iPod with iTunes will cover your iPod with iTunes library, not cover iTunes with your iPod files. You can use a 3rd party software to copy the playlist from iPod back to PC. Here is a guide about how to do that. How to transfer iPod music to computer and iTunes

How can I completely overwrite data on an iPod Touch or iPhone? Since “erase all content and settings” doesn’t actually erase the data, could I overwrite the previous data of the internal 16GB SSD by taking 16GB of new photos of a black background?

You can manually open your iPhone or iPod on your laptop by installing its drivers first, and then you can manually delete all photos, music or documents as per your requirement. Once you are done with that, and you try to go to your phone, you will not find any of the erased stuff back. It could still exist in some sectors of the drive, but not visible to anyone but it will be overwritten securely.

How do I delete an Apple account on an iPod ?

I bought an iPod 5 from the pawn shop after seeing how much my daughter loved hers. Hers was brand new and was a piece of cake. But mine had an unverified Apple ID. I cannot delete the account because it's asking for a password. I tried emailing the Apple ID I saw in the settings but no reply. Can anyone help me?

Question about my iPod Nano(3rd Generation)?

If you plug your iPod back to your computer and click sync, it will erase all existing songs on your iPod and replace with the contents of your iTunes library.

To keep those songs and transfer them back to your computer and iTunes, all you need is to use this handy program called Tansee iPod Transfer http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/Tansee-iPod-Transfer.htm
Many of my friends are using it for its easy and safe transfer. The whole process goes as follows:

Simply install this program on your computer. When you plug your iPod to the computer, this program will instantly display all songs and videos on the iPod.You simply select what you wish to transfer and click "Copy" button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer completely and safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library.
More importantly, this won't overwrite any original files on your iPod.

It even has step-by-step guide on the whole process:
