Airplay Mirroring in Mountain Lion on Mid 2010 Macbook Pro?

I just bought and installed Mountain Lion for my Macbook Pro and the first thing I wanted to try out was the mirroring feature. Unfortunately, the mirroring icon does not appear in my upper bar. When I go to system preferences - display, it gives me a button to "show mirroring icon when possible." Does this mean my mac is compatible? Any help would be appreciated.

Why is the airplay icon missing on my macbook pro?

I have just got apple tv. Airplay works fine with my iphone 5 but I'm trying to connect my laptop. On google all the answers seem to be make sure youre connected to the same network, make sure home sharing is on, restart etc. I have done all of this and icon is still not in the menu bar or in displays! The airplay works fine with iTunes on my laptop as well. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. I have done all the software updates available. I dont know what else I can do! What is "Airplay" on MacBook?

I'm new to MacBooks, firstly! I have a MacBook Air, and I noticed an icon on the top bar I haven't seen before which is a rectangle with a black triangle over it, when I click on it, it comes up with "AirPlay Mirroring:Off" blocked out, then it has someone's Macbook on it, "[Person's Name]'s MacBook Pro" and then "Open Displays Preferences..."
I'm at my university library, and majority of the people own MacBooks.
What does this all mean and how do I get rid of it?

How do I mirror a MacBook Air to (not smart) an HDTV without an Apple TV?

Get a mini display-to-HDMI adapter. There are adapters with a single HDMI port, but there are also multi-port variants, which you can use for other displays. There’s also USB to HDMI adapters. I have a USB to DVI adapter with HDMI and VGA connectors, which I have used on my 15″ MBP 2011 with a busted dGPU. It’s a bit slow, but it does the job for presentations at least. I haven’t tested it with videos yet.

If I use AirPlay to stream from my MacBook Air to my HDTV, will I experience lag while working on the TV?

According to a video of Mountain Lion on Apple's website, it does show that when using Airplay, there is a small lag which is roughly about 200ms.See for yourself, official video can be found here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/moun... (at 4m02s)

Mirror ipad air with smart tv wirelessly without apple TV?

Hi,

I have an IOS 8.4 ipad air and want to buy a samsung smart tv (UE43J5600). I would like to know if there is a way for me to mirror my ipad screen on my TV without buying the APPLE TV box. There is a mirroring app built in the TV but it will only work with samsung products so this is not going to work. Is there an app or an hack out there that I could use to solve my problem ?

Why is Mirroring (iOS or Mac desktop) on Apple TV slower than turning on Airplay for a supported app?

As explained at: How Apple AirPlay & AirPlay Mirroring works:When using internet sources for watching video (such as YouTube) or listening to music (such as Pandora, Spotify or any internet radio service) something else happens when using AirPlay. When streaming from an internet source and pressing the AirPlay button on your iOS device, your AirPlay-enabled music system or Apple TV box will open a direct connection to the internet source. The AirPlay receiver (for example Apple TV, AirPort Express, or systems with built-in AirPlay) is being authorized to access the internet source and no streaming occurs between the iOS device and the AirPlay receiver, thus no loss of quality. The video or music quality is as good as the streaming service allows.
