When it comes to “loving” Indian food, there are several factors:Taste, basically the wide range and diversity of flavors, which thankfully due to the 40+ variety of spices and the almost infinite permutations and combinations make this possible.Post consumption, the feeling of warmth or ‘comfort’. Others may call it satisfaction.Presentation - we often eat with our eyes first before we taste. Indeed the way it is presented, again due to the source of ingredients, and regional methods, gives it the lovely edge!Aroma- maybe we sense it with our noses before we even see it! Thanks to millions of years of evolution - the sense of smell, attracts us to possibly good and edible food. Indian foods (most of them) are quite aromatic, which makes it rather addictive.Preparation: I am not referring to the hugely laborious tasks involved here, actually the cooking methods which allow the different ingredients to complement each other. This contributes to #1 mentioned above. Changes in the prep method can easily produce different final dishes. There are more reasons but after having listed the 5 above, well, makes my mouth water, so I need to go and eat now!Enjoy……

Why does everyone love South Indian food?

I love South indian food because I am a South Indian. I was wondering why I preferred them over other breakfasts like North Indian, Pasta, Western or Chinese..I realized it is their simplicity. Be the humblest idly, thick dosa, thin dosa, masala dosa, pongal, or upma… all these are Vegetarian, simple on the stomach as there are no spices like cardamom, cinnamon, Bay leaves, cloves. They only have chillies that also moderate unlike our spicy lunch curries. So we don't get ebbed easily. That's why it is normal to see South Indians going for combo breakfasts2 idlies, vada and pongal with side dishes2 idlies, dosa with sambar, chutney or idly powder, sesame oil2 idlies, vada and pongal,One big masala dosa1 egg dosa3 paper appams with coconut milk or korma or eggIdiyappam with coconut milk or gravyI big ghee roast2 soft dosas with vada curryUpma and vadaVeg. Upma and vada.I often go for 4 idlies submerged in sambar with a dash of pure ghee. (served in a bowl like plate and had with spoon, not fingers)Add to this a hot cup of filter coffee for adults and milk or milk drinks for children. We eat more if it is a South Indian breakfast.
