Turn Background Music Off

How do you turn off the background music on TV shows?

I’m sorry, the the best of my knowledge, that is impossible. It’s a great idea. Most movie and TV background music is so overdone in my opinion. Some AV receivers allow you to boost the dialogue level above the music to an extent, if you are into a home theatre type system.

How do I turn down, or shut off the background "music" (noise) that seem to be attached to every TV show? I find it terribly distracting. Is it possible to do, even if some kind of external speaker is needed?

There are ways to help with this, but none are simple. The intent of your sound system (no mater how simple or complex it is) is to accurately reproduce the signals that arrive, so if they are full of music and sound effects that's what you'll get.First, are you using the TV speakers, or a sound bar, or some other system (like a surround sound receiver)? Each if these has its pitfalls. If the sound is coming from the TV itself, first go into the TV menu settings and see if there is any enhancement or effects applied and turn those off. If there is a mode or setting that specifically seems to deal with dialog, or “late night listening” or something similar, you can try that and see if it helps. But TV speakers are terrible in general and you are likely to see some improvement if you upgrade to a sound bar or amplified system to handle your sound. If you are already using a sound bar, again check your settings; if it has a “virtual surround”, “mega bass" or other enhanced mode, again turn that off. Your objective is to get as clear and focused a sound in the range of the human voice as you can.If you are using a full-on surround sound system, particularly if you have a center channel speaker, you are in luck. First make sure everything is hooked up correctly and, again, that any effects or special modes are off. Now you want to consult your owners manual to figure out how to boost the level of that center speaker relative to the other channels (or, conversely, turn the other channels down. The center channel is where the dialog lives and turning it up helps intelligibility greatly. You can also look for a reduced dynamic range setting on the receiver (and even in some sound bars) that can further help keep music from overwhelming voices. An extreme hack is to buy an older surround receiver (they are readily available for cheap at thrift stores and resale channels) and one speaker (again odd single speakers are basically giveaways) and only hook up the center channel. You can even move this speaker to a spot near your chair. I did this for a hard-of hearing friend and they loved the difference. Now, be aware that all these approaches are actually decreasing the overall “fidelity” of the sound, and will detract from music programs or movies with special effects. But if your goal is to be able to hear voices clearly, it's all worth a try.

Runescape: How do you turn the BACKGROUND music off?

I need help with turning the SONGS to not play, while still having MUSIC on. For example, going to settings > sounds > and then sliding the music bar down will not work, because not only will that turn songs off, but it will also turn music off. The reason I want this is because leveling up, finishing a slayer task, etc depends on music for the sound to activate. However, I do not want songs (background music) to be playing, but I DO want the leveling up, finishing a slayer task, etc. sounds to play.

tl;dr - How do I turn off the background music (soundtracks) of Runescape without turning off the other music that plays (e.g. finishing a slayer task, leveling up)?

How do I turn off the background music in Wii Zelda Skyward Sword? I want to keep original game sounds.?

You can't turn off the background music, unfortunately. The best you can do is to mute the whole game... which would also mute the sound effects.

My best advice is to try to enjoy the music. One of the best parts of any Zelda game is the music, after all. :D
