Tv Controls On The Remote And The Set Itself Aren

Why does my phone volume keep turning itself down when I have earbuds/headphone in?

Note:As this answer is constantly and consistently getting a fair number of views, I’ve decided to completely re-write it in a way that I hope can help more people.TLDR;Probably your headphones, try a different pair.Long Answer; There are three main causes of volume being unintentionally turned down on Android smartphones. The first one that most people aren’t aware of is headphone compatibility.A standard set of headphones uses a 3.5mm plug with three connections, referred to as a TRS, to carry sound for the left and right as well as a ground. The jack on most smartphones add a 4th connection to carry a signal from a built-in microphone as well as remote control buttons - the plug for this type is referred to as a TRRS.Headphones with either type of plug should work in jacks for either type, except that Apple iOS devices and Android devices use completely different electrical signals for the volume/track control buttons. Depending on the headphone/phone combination, electrical differences can cause the phone to think it’s receiving a “volume down” signal from the headphones. This same issue is also commonly caused by headphones that are poorly built or slightly damaged, where again the phone can receive inadvertent volume down signals from the headphones. If this is happening to you, simply trying a different pair of headphones will usually resolve the problem. Also, look for headphones that specify Android compatibility on the package.A second common issue is that many Android phones include a feature to protect your hearing by limiting the volume. You can tell if your phone has the automatic volume limitation if a warning pops-up while you’re turning up the volume, warning you about potential hearing loss. Even if you click through to bypass the warning, many phones will automatically re-enable it every 24 hours. Yes, this is annoying but it is there to protect you.Lastly, make sure there isn’t anything physically impinging on the volume button on your phone. Poorly designed cases, other objects in your pocket or bag, and especially phone holders in vehicles have been known to put pressure on the volume buttons and turn the volume down.Hopefully this helps some folks.Good luck!Sources; How does iPhone headphone remote circuit work?3.5 mm Headset: Accessory Specification | Android Open Source ProjectPhone connector (audio) - Wikipedia

Does universal remote control work by adjusting to different wavelengths?

Most IR remotes for TV,s DVD etc use a LED transmitter and the receivers use a phototransistor or photodiode that detects a wide range of IR LED.The signals are all asynchronous serial digital with a similar bit rate. Each unit (transmitter) identifies itself by prefixing a ID code; Manufacturers have blocks of codes so they can have several models of transmitters with different codes operating in the same room.Maker of universals simply learn which maker and model to emulate and send out the unit ID code matching the system it wants to control, often a universal control can send out several ID codes, one for the TV volume and another for the DVD to control pause, stop start skip and FF assigned to different buttons.

My vizio tv turns it self on?

Disable the hdmi-cec in the tv's settings menu. What is happening is that one of your hdmi connected devices, usually a cable box or satellite but can be other devices connected to the internet, turns on internally to check for software/firmware and the tv senses this change in condition of the connected device and assumes you turned it on and wants to watch this device. Whatever input the tv is on when you wake is the most likely culprit but I have found it can be any one of the connected devices.

If that does not cure the issue then you need to disable the communications program in the devices such as Anynet in Samsungs and Bravianet in Panasonics.

And if THAT does not cure it you may need to connect to the offending device with component video cables. This last one is a rare last ditch fix...rare..not unheard of

AT&T Uverse remote control not working correctly?

The first thing you need to check with your AT&T remote control are the batteries. Make sure you can test it with a brand new set of batteries. If it's still not working properly, then there's a good chance the buttons on your remote control are busted.

Next thing to do is to contact Uverse Tech support at 1800-288-2020 and ask for a remote control replacement. You will not be charged for the new remote control, just ask them to send you a new one. The shipping can take about 3-5 business days, but when you get your new remote control, then your problem is solved.

Why don't movies in DVD format fill the entire screen on my new TV?

3 possibilities -1) Aspect ratio on television set incorrectly (as mentioned above) Use your TV remote to change - it varies by TV, but typically there's a 16:9 vs. 4:3 setting (which you'd want set to16:9, then there are various 'zoom' settings that can change the appearance. if your issue is that you have black or white space to left or right of pic, then this is likely your problem.2) Aspect ratio on your cable box/dish box, etc.  Same as above; often will combine with TV settings making it even more difficult to figure out. Set TV to 16:9 and Zoom to 'Full' or 'Wide', then adjust cable set-top box.(cable box settings (#2 above) will only affect DVD playback if DVD output runs through cable box)3) MOST LIKELY - DVD's can be recorded at various aspect ratios (length to height). Believe it or not, a lot of movies shown in theaters use a 2.35:1 ratio.  If this is transferred to DVD, you will have black or grey  bars above and below your screen, b/c a typical HDTV uses 16:9, or 1.77 ratio.  Look on the box cover of the DVD. If it states '1.85:1' or just 1.85, then you should be good. If it states 2.35, expect the black bars.  If you absolutely hate them, you can 'zoom' in with your TV control, but you'll lose some of the left-side and right side.

How can a TV remote make a battery-operated light turn on and off? My friend was able to make her battery-operated candle type light turn on and off with the TV remote.

I would assume the battery operated light is a motion detector light that turns on when motion is detected in its field of view.It will have a lens and an IR detector. The IR detector senses heat or light given off in the infrared (not visible) light band and if it detects a rapid change then it assumes a warm bright heat object crossed its path or blocked a nearby light /heat source like a lamp which gives off both visible light and infrared light.A TV remote and remote for other stuff uses a pulsed IR emitter to send a stream of digital signals to the TV’s IR detector. The IR beam from the remote is apparently enough to set off the motion detector in the light. As an engineer I would have suggested that they use a rate sensor in the motion detector to discriminate against really fast changes like a remote signal uses, but then that would have made it a little more complex.

How do I play a movie on a Samsung blue ray DVD without the remote?

In some cases if you look along the front of the blu-ray player you might find a flap somewhere that unfolds, this will be hiding some of the basic buttons required to play the blu-ray. I know Panasonic usually do this and it’s so handy when you can’t find the remote! Failing that if you look in the pound shops they usually sell some kind of “universal remote” which will allow you some basic functionality without purchasing a new genuine remote. If you want most of the remotes functionality back then look for universal remotes made by a company called “One For All” - they are more expensive than the cheap pound shop universal remotes and are usually found in bigger supermarkets or on Amazon rather than pound shops, but they are much better quality than the cheap ones, and some of the more high end One For All remotes can also download the codes from the internet or learn from other remotes if they aren’t fully compatible and the customer service team at One For All are great at finding the best remote if you go on their website and start a live chat with them - Home | One For AllFailing that you could always contact Samsung and see if they are able to sell you a replacement remote or look on eBay for a genuine samsung remote - this will give you the most compatibility however the samsung remotes will be a lot more expensive than the universal remotes.
