Typical Stylistic Features Of Gauguin

What is a typical American lifestyle?

This is a very broad question. I will give you a generalized answer.Modern Ameican families are nuclear families. And as kids grow older they become more independent. Most kids are pretty independent in deciding on their basic choices like what to wear, what to eat, who to hangout with by the time they are 13. Dating or hanging out with opposite sex is not a taboo and neither is public display of affection for the other sex if maintained within limits. Contrary to popular belief, American society is far more conservative compared to the European society. Some kids even do odd jobs in the neighborhood for their own money because the idea of being independent is in their genes. By the time they are 16 they have DLs and on their way out of their parents' home when they join college at 18. Because after that kids are expected to take care of themselves and not depend on parents. Parents also do not expect their kids to take care of them when they are old. This DOESN'T mean that they don't love each other but it is about respecting another individual's independence and giving space in life.On a day to day life, most Americans are two-income families and so pretty much most American households are busy during weekdays. They enjoy TV, movies, sports (especially Sunday night Super Bowl, NBA, or college basketball), hanging out, partying with friends, eating out, or camping be it with family or friends. These were typical American lifestyle broadly defined. But America is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society. So each of 'em bring in their own culture to their American lifestyle. Most Indian-American families are known for this. They tend to incorporate Indian lifestyle in to their American lifestyle.

What are the traits of a typical Seattleite?

Liberal stances in the realm of politics & society. Educated with a worldly-view on humanity.Don't just accept diversity, expect diversity. In both opinions and culture.More environmentally-conscious than your average American. Whether this is due to strict recycling laws or not, it's the truth. Enjoy arts & culture. Seattle is known for its grunge music of the 90s, yes, but there's a lot of other stuff coming out of there now. In terms of music, for example, hip-hop is finding new roots in The Town (Macklemore and other similar-styled artists). A tremendous amount of pride for the professional sports teams we do have, especially after getting our NBA team stripped from us. It's an up-and-coming sports fan city. GO HAWKS. This pride manifests itself in other ways, it's not all about being a die-hard Seahawks fan...or maybe it is. In any case, GO SOUNDERS.Inspired. The big players like Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon are not only sources of cash flow for the city, but also (I think at least) serve as inspiration to do BIG things with your life. There's a lot of lofty goal-setting. Healthier than your average American, as Seattleites frequently partake in some outdoor activity. Whether that be running, biking, soccer, football, snowboarding, ultimate frisbee, landscaping etc., staying active is perceived as important.Calm, cool, and collected. In Seattle if you walk around with a smile on your face all day, chances are 90% of the people you make eye-contact with will smile back at you. That's sayin' something. I wish I could provide some empirical evidence to that number I just threw out...but it's definitely one of the more open and accepting places I've been in US, or in the world.A multicultural taste for food. There's excellent Asian, Mexican, Ethiopian, Cuban, Mediterranean, and every other style of cuisine in the city.Lastly...Seattleites never take the sun for granted. But we're always perturbed when we meet people from around the world that say, "Oh Seattle. Doesn't it rain all the time there?" The fact of the matter is, it doesn't rain all the time, and summers are absolutely amazing. Perfect even. That is, of course, biased.

How can I judge an artwork like paintings or sculptures? Are there any steps or standards I can follow? I am just a beginner in visual arts.

Thank you for the compliment of the A2A.The art world is immense. People generally think about Western Art when they talk about the "art world", but art is created all over the world, especially now - and it always has been. And these traditions have always been influential. Picasso's work was enormously influenced by a show of African masks he saw in Paris in 1914, for example, and Gauguin would not be known had he not run away to Tahiti. Therefore, you need to learn about the traditions of art, and why people create it - and respond to it. There are many good books, and you can get them used on Amazon very inexpensively. Search for "art history books". Among the best standards are by Gombrich and another by Janson. Get one and study it. Then look at art - lots of it. Almost every museum today has an excellent webpage. Go to those. But even more importantly, look at original art. Looking at original paintings - in museums, in galleries, in artist's studios - will give you, over time, the gifts that exposure brings. Exposure to art almost automatically helps us learn connoisseurship. I believe this is because nature already gives us such a good model of balance in composition - in structure, in color, in rhythm. It is everywhere around us. Therefore, when we look at enough artwork, we are able to discern, over time, quite naturally which artworks are well-composed and which are not, which are well-balanced in terms of color, and which are not. The ones which are ill-done betray themselves because they feel uncomfortable and unbalanced to us. Now, I will qualify that by saying that does not mean that there cannnot be artists who are intentionally using that kind of  discomfort to teach us something new - to keep us out of our comfort zone. Contemporary art does that sometimes - or at least claims to. But in those cases, we will read about that intention and make intellectual adjustments, and perhaps other determinations if we so choose. However, in general, viewing enough art will gain almost anyone the ability to achieve discernment. Couple that with some study - et voilà! You will know more than most people about "judging" art!

What are some significant characteristics about Vincent Van Goghs art?

Hi i worked up what i think you need i was a art major in college......

Impressionists as was Van Gogh were among the first to truly think outside of the box. The techniques they began to use are techniques that many artists still use in painting today.
Among those most noted in the era were:Van Gogh an Monet
Thick short strokes of bright color. These strokes were taken to get a quick impression of the essence of the subject. Impressionism did not focus on the intricate details of an image
Color – Color is not mixed. It is laid against another color which thus creates a vibrant overall look. The mixing of the colors is supposed to take place when the viewer looks at the painting
No use of Black – There is no black used in impressionism. Grays and dark colors are obtained by mixing contrasting colors together.
Previously after applying certain paint, the painting is left to dry and this did not happen with Impressionism. The painters tended to blend the colors right on the canvasby mixing in wet colors
Because Impressionists took painting outdoors, they began to realize the importance of natural light in their paintings and played up the emphasis of light.
Previous to the Impressionist period painters had used some of their methods, but never all of the methods together with such bold brush strokes. His Brushstrokes although common have never been duplicated

What are the defining characteristics of Bauhaus design?

In order to be able to say that and be telling the truth, you would need to spend some time getting to know the output of the many different practitioners who taught and studied there. Their output is surprisingly varied and yet there is something that binds them all together too. If I had to describe 'Bauhaus Style' I would say that it is:minimalistgeometricalhand crafted (but looks like it is mass produced)anti-ornament-----------------------------------------I have just coincidentally been in New York and went to the Guggenheim while I was there. There was an exhibition on of Wassily Kandinski's work in one of the side galleries. I struck by one particular sentence about the Bauhaus in the introduction to the exhibition:"The school’s curriculum was based on the principle that the crafts were equal to the traditional arts and was organized according to a medieval-style guild system of training under the tutelage of masters" So, I think the school had a quite clearly stated vision.

What are the defining characteristics of R&B music?

R&B has actually changed quite a bit over the decades of use, although it has generally (right or wrong) been associated with music made predominately by black artists and musicians.Originally R&B was used in the 1940s as a replacement of the term "race music" to identify black artists .  At the time musicians were also mixing jazz styles and blues together.  One of the pronounced differences is in the locking together of the drums and bass into a tight rhythm feel (as opposed to Jazz where the bass is often loose).Allan Freed took the term Rock & Roll from many R&B songs (The Trieners, Louis Jordan, Roy Brown), and turned the term into a name for white youth playing black R&B music.R&B went on to be used in the eras of 60's soul (Stax and Motown), 70's Funk, Disco, and even at one time HipHop, before that became it's own break out genre.  Today the Billboard Chart that used to be R&B is listed as R&B/Hip Hop.The "60's British Invasion" was largely a result of White English musicians playing covers of 40s-50s Black American R&B.Some have noted that R&B songs deal with emotions and themes of pain and suffering, the pursuit of freedom and happiness.   But this is the human condition described in all genres of music, and even Country Music includes these metaphors, just with the imagery of Pick-up trucks, dogs, and women in Cowboy Boots. So in the end R&B describes a style of music, but it still somewhat a racial term.

What characteristics define country music?

I was A2A this question so please pardon the liberties I will take in answering this question. Nowadays Country music is defined by other genres in that if something is not hip hop, alternative, dance, pop, R&B, or rock then it might be country."We all have difficulties in defining Country Music. The genre has been expanding to include many different styles from traditional bush ballads right through to something called 'Alternative Country'. At the Country Music College, we approach the definition from a different angle. Rather than trying to define what is Country Music, we keep our minds open while having a general consensus about what is not Country Music. Our staff and students accept that method of definition."--Peter Winkler, Director of the College of Country MusicWhile you could just cop out at saying we know it when we hear it, there are some characteristics that can help. I will try to rephrase some of these in the vein of popular comic Foxworthy's, "You might be a Redneck" routine. In other words, after the following phrases, you should hear Foxworthy saying, "It might be a Country song."If it is sung by a white person and you can understand the lyrics....If it has a simple cord progression, one that you could learn in a given afternoon....If it tells a story that you can follow...If you can remember and sing the chorus after your first listen....If you can make out what the instruments playing are...If the singer has a Southern accent....If the song sticks to simple metaphors about life and nature....If it mentions either Cowboys, horses, or doggies....If you find yourself waiting for the "twang"...If you can't wait for the part with the fiddling...If the lyrics mention a monosyllabic man or woman's name...To me, Country Music is the song of White America. It can rock like Skynyrd did, make us dance like Billy Ray did, or make the whole world stand up and buy their music like Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood did, but it is the folk music of our nation, telling the story of our earliest immigrants and how they still persevere in this place called America.

What are the characteristics of hip hop music?

Generally speaking? Hip Hop is AGRESSIVE.It's agressively produced, performed, recorded and engineered. Vocals can be doubled, quadrupled, shouted, sung, and extremely compressed. Profanity, sexually explicit language and lyrics detailing violent or illegal activity is ever present, similar to Rock, and its subgenres. Hip Hop is probably the only genre of music that couldn't have existed without the genres created before it, because Hip Hop was literally created from sampling music from famous and obscure Funk, Jazz, Gospel and Rock albums by DJs who would play the entire instrumental while an MC would freestyle over it.And just like Rock, no other genre's artists exhibit hypermasculinity, and worse, misogyny, to the level that Hip Hop does. Unlike Rock however, Hip Hop culture and its fans tend to harbor a lot of agist attitudes towards the pioneers and older fans of the culture itself, whereas in Rock music, a performer's age is a non-issue. If anything, senority is celebrated in Rock culture.Among its fans, there is still debate between whether or not Hip Hop and Rap are even the same thing and fans often divide themselves by the eras they grew up in, as well as the regions the music was made in.Speaking of music, every region makes subtle changes to the way the music is arranged, produced... The major regions are West, East, Midwest and South:California (specifically, LA) represents the West Coast, New York (specifically, Harlem, Queens and the Bronx) represent the East Coast. Cities like Chicago and Detroit represent the Midwest, while cities like Miami, Atlanta, and Houston represent the South. You can do your own research on this point, but basically NY style was the original style. It was sample-based, agressive, fast, and beat driven. West Coast style was slower, melodic, and smoother. Southern style (the most popular style of them all) is very slow, beat driven, and synthetic, while Midwest more or less combines each of the other region's sounds into their own.In the same vein, the rappers themselves are just as varied as the music, often embodying the entire spirit of their era, region, or record label's "signature" sound: West Coast has Tupac, the Midwest has Eminem, the East has Biggie Smalls, and the South has its Andre 3000.
