I am trying to instal ubuntu 16.04 from an usb disk and i dont have any dvd drive in my cpu.. but when i am installing ubuntu at last it says... the installer encountered error copying to the hard disk errno 5 : input/output error this is often due to a faulty cd/dvd disk or drive.it may help to clean the cd/dvd, to burn the dvd at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens(cleaning kits are often available from electronic supplier)

So my laptop's hard drive died yesterday. I was wondering if I could use disk sanitizer to wipe another old hard drive that I have lying around and then install Ubuntu on it? I lost my windows xp recovery/installation CD and I'm not going to buy another one. Is it possible to use disk sanitizer to wipe an old hard drive clean and then boot from a ubuntu cd/usb? Thanks.
