What is the difference between server name and hostname?
Working in IT industry for >1 year, and having experience on migration projects; there need to be few clarifications on this topic.Hostname: A name for your system, something like Marys’(personal systems), A2***333(official systems, random strings, will not make sense to you, but for your employer it does). This is basically a name tag, a person name is Adam, a system name is QUCPS02WSX, etc.In windows, you can see this as “Computer Name” in your system properties. In linux based system, you can see this by typing “hostname” on bash shell.ServerName: Now, most of the personal systems doesn’t belong to any domain. But lets’ say my office name is “abc”. Thus making the server name for my system like “A2***333.abc.com”.So, if my system is hosting some application, you can type in my FQDN(maybe browser, maybe third party tools), so that you can consume the content I am serving.Trivia:Also, a person typing just “abc.com” would be oblivious to what hostname he wants to visit, because generally, various systems serves the same content in a load balanced fashion. So that no server gets overloaded. H doesn’t even need to know hostnames.
What can someone do with your public ip address?
You see I own a minecraft server and I'm using my public IP address as the domain for it. Is there any way someone could do something bad to my computer if I gave them the IP?
Why my internet is too slow?.....?
I have internet connection of 3 gb in my house, and i have two laptops, everytime that i use the internet my CPU is running almost at 100%, 90% and the laptops i have are kind fast, thy have doual core i5 with 2.53 with turbo on one computer and without turbo the second laptops, both laptops with 4 gb of ram, eather the CPU and the memory got to the top of use when i am at home, i had test the dowload speed of my internet connection and the speed is ok, now, i am in a hotel, i have check their conection they have 3 gb, but they have plenty of users since the hotel is full, i am using the same laptop i have at home, the CPU is working so smooth, not even the 20% of the capacity, the memory in use now is 1.8 to 2 gb of the 4 gb of ram, the surf is nice and i dont feel the laptop is overloaded like i do in my house, can someone tell me why this happen in my home internet connection even with a good download speed, i have test the connection and dowload is ok, ahh i also have an apple tv and the streem is not normal, it stops kind often, my both laptops use UBUNTU as OS.......
