Under-age Drinking In Mexico

Under-age drinking in Mexico?

I am going to Mexico in the summer, by this point I will be 17 and only a year younger than I should be to drink legally in that country.

I am staying in a all inclusive tourist resort in Playa Paraiso and want to know if I will be able to get away with ordering myself drinks at the bars within the resort? My question basically is, what's the likelihood that I can order myself alcoholic beverages throughout the day and night, without being questioned about my age?

Like I say, at this point I will be 17, I do look my age and definitely dress and have the assets of a young adult. Just need to know if the bartenders will be relaxed and not bothered about age restrictions.

Thanks in advance.

Underage drinking in Tijuana, Mexico!?

and then some complaint about being abused down the border... be wise! there's a reason why you are not allowed to drink at your age, you can easily get drunk and then abused.

Try to find healthier and safer ways to enjoy yourself.

Underage drinking in cancun, mexico?

It is not illegal for you to try and get a drink or even get one. It is against the Law to serve and PLY a Child with alcohol or drugs. You are going to find you can Not bribe a Bartender. He may have a family to feed and this other guy thinks he is going to risk his Job for a "Few Pesos"?

Cancun is in Mexico ..Mexico is Not in Cancun

Keep this in mind Children are not held accountable for their behavior when you are drunk. Your Parents are and or your adult chaperon and fined or held accordingly.

Some of the responders on this site have never read a newspaper in Spanish and Never even looked at Civil and criminal court actions.
wtf would a 15 year old want to drink in Cancun.....What do you plan on doing Passing out all the time and wasting your time?? Just stay home and find a bag of glue!!

There were a couple kids visiting Puerta Vallarta . They were 17 and got drunk and broke a religious artifact on a Church as well a urinating all over it. They were held for 90 days and their parents had to secure their release with $50,000.00 USD

No offence to your parents but if you were my kid I would Slap you silly "15 wtf"

Underage drinking in Cozumel.?

Nervous parents sometimes ask this question here.
It is illegal to serve alcohol to Minors all over Mexico. The place can be closed down in extreme cases and fines to the establishment. Waiters/Waitresses can lose their jobs.
It is possible but I am 100% certain that a foreign girl would not even go in the Place and likely turn back after being in the neigborhood for a few moments.
Why in the world would a 16 year old want to go to Cozumel to drink when there is soo much more to do.
If this is indeed a valid question you are destined to be an alcoholic . See what happened to LiLo

Mexican society has a dim view of women that drink, especially foreigners. Much less children.

How strict is underage drinking in cancun mexico?

You will be perfectly fine and able to drink. I have been going to Cancún for over ten years and I have witnessed kids that looked as young as ten years old ordering beers. It is true the drinking age is 18, but they DO NOT enforce it at all. Yes, the police look the other way and they can be paid off, but you won't have to do that. Cancún is a tourist town so they need your money to survive. They don't care if you are underage. They know it's Cancún and a party/drinking town, especially during spring break, so they don't make a big deal of it. Just walk up to the bartender at your resort order a beer and throw him like $5 and he will be your best friend. Your cup will never be empty and if there is a line to get a drink he will go out of your way to serve you first. I took a group of people one time and at the beginning of the trip we hooked up the bartender. We gave him $100 and I have never been so drunk. He was making things for us to drink I never even heard of. The whole trip I had two drinks in my hand non-stop for a week. He even took time to get to know us and remembered our names and everyday would say Hi Mr./Mrs.. Are you ready to get drunk today....lol..he was awesome. So, yes you will not have any problems. If you do run into trouble just remember you can get ANYTHING you want in Mexico if you just flash some money around. Enjoy your time and drink one for me!!!

Underage Drinking, Cabo San Lucas?

The last time I was in Cabo, I never saw anyone get carded. However, the places that have lots of police presence might. Stay away from the "Cabo Wabo" and the "Hard Rock" and I don't think you will have a problem.

Can people drink underage in Cancun, Mexico?

I'm going to answer my own question because I was wondering this before I went. Here's the lay-down:
Girls: If you look a good age, are pretty, aren't immature, have big boobs, etc. etc. etc. you will have no problem drinking at restaurants, bars, even non-all-inclusive hotels. If you are asked for ID, say you don't have it and you will be fine. I went to a hugely popular club on New Years Eve and it was the easiest thing ever to buy tickets, order drinks, and get hit on. Easy peasy.
Boys: Definitely harder for you. I went on the trip with my cousin (17) and brother (18, almost 19) and at two points during the trip (we didn't get out much as it was) they were unable to order drinks and party. It's funny, too, because my brother was the legal drinking age, yet he legit didn't have an ID on him. You better have back up plans for places to drink. Don't try going to the Hard Rock Cafe. Also, I doubt you would be able to get into clubs unless someone else bought your tickets.

I hope this helps out. Don't be stupid and you won't be arrested. The busses down the strip are really safe and the cheapest things ever, and all the taxis are also really safe.

Good luck!

Underage drinking at all inclusive hotels in Mexico?

I've been going to the same resort twice a year since i was born and now im 17, so lots of employees know me at the hotel i stay at in cancun mexico. Since i know the bar tenders, they have no problem serving me alcohol since i was 13. Im going to be staying at a new hotel this year that is all inclusive... will the free bars serve me alcohol? I look old enough and have a pretty good beach body if that helps...(; but do we need a wrist band or do they need to scan my room key or something?

17 year olds and underage drinking in Cancun?

This march break (1 week from now) My family and I will be going to Gran Melia in Cancun all inclusive.

I am 17 years old and trusted to consume alcohol by my parents. If my parents request My sister (twin) and I to receive adult bracelets, Will we be allowed to order and consume alcohol without having to always ask our parents (who find it very annoying to have to go to the bar to do so).

We will be turning 18 in under a month (so close) so I was wondering if Hotels and resorts are normally accommodating to youth drinking even if the parents are okay with/ request it.

Are the drinking laws enforced in Mexico?

Oh yes, they are enforced and they are very serious about it.The legal drinking age in Mexico is 18 years old. If you are under 18, then you are not allowed to drink in public places: restaurants or bars. You have to be 18 to do so.Regarding drinking and driving:At least in the cities of Guadalajara an Mexico City, there are this police-control-stops called “alcoholimetros” where they check if you are DUI (Driving Under Influence -of alcohol-) first visually and by your reactions and, if they judge you are DUI, they will pass you to a seconday inspection where you are tested in a blow-into device. This gizmo measures the alcohol content in your breath and if you are over 0.40 mg/L (popularly known as degrees of alcohol) per breath sample, you are busted. You will be sent to jail (popularly known as “El Torito”) for 24 hours and your car will be sent to a “vehicular deposit”; afterwards, when you go out, you will have to pay a hefty fine to recover your car from that place. This 0.40 degress of alcohol is equivalent to just one glass of wine or one beer !The law states that whomever drives a car and gets busted driving with 50 to 80 miligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood or, 0.25 to 0.40 mg/L in a breath sample or, if noticeable under the influence of drugs, will get punishedHere is some information on the subject, (in Spanish):Here is the official Mexican government manual of “alcoholimetry”: http://conapra.salud.gob.mx/Inte...http://alcoholimetromexico.com.m...
