Unemployment Depression

Is it normal to be depressed from unemployment?

It totally is. Depression is really just prolonged sadness. And unemployment makes us sad. Voila.

My suggestions:
Be picky, but don't float for too long. You don't want big awkward gaps on your resume, even if you are an artist.

Try something that no one else is doing. If you can, draw portraits or caricatures. September's the best time for that, since you've got all the fresh college students who still have some of daddy's money left to spend. Put ads online offering your services. Craigslist and Kijiji are free and effective.

Start a major project. You don't have to finish it, but at least it's something to do. And it will be your answer when the interviewer's ask "and what did you do in summer 09?"

Lay off the pot. It's a depressant. Not that I'm accusing you of anything. But let's face it, you ARE an artist.

How do I get over my depression caused by unemployment?

Look at the world through different lenses. With economic times as they are, there are many individuals who are unemployed.  However, this is also one of the greatest opportunities if you are willing to throw yourself all in to new discoveries.   You are no longer tied to a clock, so you can create your own business or fill in a gap that you see exists.  Creativity, imagination, ingenuity and head-strong characteristics can become your motivation to be something or someone else that you had previous not been able to achieve.   If your pursuit in to get back in the working world, you make that your full-time job.  If you feel like you could be a start-up businessman, throw all your efforts into making that happen.   Overall, the last thing that you should be doing is playing the "woe is me" card; you have talents and abilities that no one else does, so find them, use them, strengthen them and challenge yourself to reach further than you ever have before.  (None of this is easy!  But it is always worth it.)

At the onset of the great depression, urban unemployment...?

D

Major caused for unemployment rate to be as high as 25% during the great depression:

•Complete collapse of the stock market, worldwide
•Cut-back business and government expenditures
•Drought conditions that ravaged agricultural regions worldwide
•Low credit availability that added to debt by borrowing
•Deflation in prices of consumer goods made worse by a drop in wages
•Few alternate job resources
•Increase in retaliatory tariffs that led to exacerbated collapse of world trade

During the depression wage cuts and unemployment eventually effected?

Quan, your question is either incomplete or poorly worded and I am not so sure what it is you are looking for. That said, I'll answer:

During the worst years of the Depression (1933-1934) the overall jobless rate was 25% (1 out of 4 people) with another 25% taking wage cuts or working part time. The gross national product fell by almost 50%. It was not until 1941, when WWII was underway, that unemployment officially fell back below 10%. These conditions affected all levels of society.

Hoovervilles, a popular name for shanty towns built by homeless people during the Great Depression sprang up throughout the nation. They were named after Herbert Hoover, who was President of the United States during the onset of the Depression and widely blamed for it. The term was coined by Charles Michelson, publicity chief of the Democratic National Committee.

What can I do to ease my depression whilst unemployed?

It is in fact quite difficult to anyone, being job less is very much depressing and requires huge self awareness to come out the depression. Self Pride, Family pressure along with this one of most depressing thing to any jobless is “what others are thinking about them” it could be anyone friend/relative/anyone. The guys goes on depressed.First thing to keep in mind. No one will help you, only you can help yourself. “don’t worry what other assholes are thinking about you”. Worrying is the most disturbing factoring and drains out energy. Worrying always keeps us in negative thoughts and just stop worrying it. “Worrying also generates some hormones which create health problems in a long run”as per medical industry . Keep faith things will be better.in the present world of white color jobs, every 2 to 3 years there is recession and most of IT professional’s are worried about their jobs. Find job in other field and just go on.just keep going on………….Caution:Depression, Anxiety & worrying are more dangerous to health than alcohol and smoking . Be aware, they can produce BP,Sugar, kidney failure etc and many more…..

Unemployment:  I'm extremely depressed and angry about being unemployed for some time. How do I go on without having a mental breakdown?

Hi Pallavi,Uemployment can really depressing. But you need to understand that you ARE NOT GOING TO stay that way forever. Here are few things that can keep you busy.If you are willing, you could do free lancing such as writing articles online etc. (This might not pay you much but will keep you busy until you find the right job)You can try looking out for jobs that dont require much skill or not related to your field of work . (For example : Call center jobs. These jobs pay you decently, and you can quit whenever you want to )Volunteering : Various NGOs post on FB that thy require volunteers. You could volunteer for various noble causes .Please remember that this is just a PHASE of life and you will definitely find a JOB. Learn that your mind plays tricks or you. Please try talking to people or going out as much as you because loneliness will haunt you. This will lead to negative thought lingering in your mind.Stay POSITIVE !
