Unemployment In Tn Answer

I can't get through to tn unemployment TIPS line?

The day I am supposed to certify is Sunday. I call the TIPS line - all 3 different numbers. And I get the message "Welcome to the Tennessee Unemployment Information and Payment System. [long pause] The TIPS system is currently unavailable. Please try back in 30 minutes. This is the second week I've had this happen. It will not let me certify at all until Monday morning, which of course is not the correct day. This forces me to wait until Tuesday to certify, making my check two days late =/ Online certification is "unavailable" as well. Are they just trying to withhold checks?? Is ANYONE else having this issue? I am shocked it happens so often yet no questions online regarding this..?

Can minors draw unemployment?

Tennessee law provides a formula by which the Division of Employment Security calculates your weekly benefit amount. The total amount you may draw during your benefit year is determined, under that formula, by the total amount of wages you earned in your base period. Your base period is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters immediately preceding your filing a valid new claim for benefits.

Requirements For Eligibility
There are certain requirements that you must meet before you can receive unemployment insurance benefits. Among these are the following:

1. You must be totally or partially unemployed through no fault of your own and be approved for benefits.

2. You must have worked in employment that is covered by unemployment insurance and have qualifying wages in the base period.

3. You must be physically able to work at the time you file your first claim.

4. You must be available to accept suitable work offered to you.

5. You must have earned enough wages at your work to qualify for benefits.

6. After filing your claim, you must serve one week of waiting for which no payment is made. You will be paid for your waiting week if and when you have certified and been eligible for benefits in your waiting week and in each of the three consecutive weeks immediately following your waiting week.

7. Each week, you must report the gross amount of any money you have earned during that week, even if you are not paid until later.

Can you file for unemployment if pregnant in TN?

Calling dept of labor won't do you any good because like you said, it's an automated system. You have to go down there and wait in line (a few hours maybe) and actually talk to a person. Do it now because after you have the baby, you won't want to bring a newborn into a waiting room with a ton of people. I tried to collect once in TN and there was a one week waiting period after you're formally fired, before they will start paying you. Talking to a real person will get you answers as to what the rate is, based on the last 4 or 5 quarters you worked so bring your paystubs when you go in.

Unemployment has nothing to do with maternity leave, it's not like dept of labor needs to know you just gave birth, so if your job fires you then yes you're eligible to collect. Where I live we pay payroll tax into a state disability program which is what you collect during maternity leave, but I don't know if TN has something like that. You should also check into SSI and see if any of your friends with kids were able to collect disability while they took maternity leave.

Can I get food stamps if I am on unemployment?

Yes, as a matter of fact, it should be easier for you to receive food stamps because it will be easier for them to verify your income. Our food stamp office verifies unemployment benefits via the same state system they use to determine food stamp eligibility. They are able to view work quarters and the date unemployment payouts begin. Income, or the lack of income, has to be verified as part of the food stamp application process. In our area, emergency food stamps can also be requested. Do a search to find out if there are any food banks (pantries) in your area. Once you are approved to receive food stamps, you automatically qualify for food bank distributions.

Can I apply for unemployment insurance after being laid off on an H1B visa?

The Anonymous “free to work” answer covers it here - the issue isn’t whether you’re ineligible because your not a citizen or permanent resident; this alone doesn't disqualify you because unemployment insurance isn’t a “public benefit” - it’s insurance which has actually been paid for by you/your employer. But you do need to be immediately eligible to accept employment - which you aren’t without another employer sponsoring you. Had you been on an Employment Authorization which allowed you to immediately work for a potential new employer, you would have been eligible even wihtout being a citizen or permanent resident.More here: Can a non-immigrant work visa holder (H-1B, L-1, E-2, E-3, O-1, TN etc.) apply for unemployment insurance if fired or laid off from the sponsoring job? Will it get them in trouble?

How do i get a copy of my unemployment 1099 form if i lost it?

On a search engine [mamma.com, altavista, yahoo, msn], type in your State, then "tax" or "taxation". Your State will come up. You can get on the State website and find your employment commission.

You could also call the IRS at 1-800-829-1115 or 1-800-829-3676 and ask what the 1099-G said. The IRS will ask for your SS# and some other questions to prove your identity.

Unemployment weekly certification?

I live in TN and I'm trying to do my weekly certification for unemployment benefits. I've been trying since 1:00 to call in. The number just constantly rings busy. If it does start to go through it just hangs up on me. I've tried getting online and it says "Most TN.gov applications will be offline for performance improvements from 6 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 24 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Sep. 25. We apologize for the inconvenience." It's now after 3:00 and it's still not working. I have to certify by 8:00 tonight. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do or who I can call?

Thanks so much for you help!
