Will I be able to paint Warhammer 40k figures even if I'm bad at art and not very neat, etc.?

My man. Let me tell you a story.I play with a group of individuals who value the hobby a lot. It is something we all put a great deal of our lives into. We have pride in our models. In this group is one individual who paints so god damn well, that when a professional model painter and assembler saw his models, he literally said “Holy shit, did you do that yourself? That is amazing.”He paints this well. And this well.Isn’t that amazing? Not only that, but his armies are almost always 100% painted, and usually to near that level of awesome.Do we get jealous? No. We appreciate his talent and skill, but none of us feel like our armies are any less valuable just because this one guy paints so well. We do hire him from time to time though cause that level of work is awesome. The point of the hobby is to make it your own. Your ability to paint will get better over time. It doesn’t matter how good you are from the start. All that matters is that you are proud of the effort you put in, and the models you got out. I will never paint that well. But, I’m still proud of what I got.So yes, you will be able to paint even if you can’t draw, or you aren’t neat.

How do I look at a character and draw it in another pose/perspective?

The secret behind using a reference photo in the most efficient way , lies in your question.Learning human anatomy is the first thing you need to do.Starting off with stick figures and slowly developing the structure of the figure with basic shapes really helps.Once you are comfortable with the structure and the basis , you can further experiment by embedding them in various perspectives. For basics , you can begin with one , two and three point perspectives. For best results , you can always blend perspectives and styles.Observing the reference is crucial. Grasping the features of the character will help further render your piece under different criteria. For guidance you can make good use of the amazing videos by the following youtubers :Mark CrilleyCircle line art schoolProkoExperiment , practice and explore. Try drawing objects or the people around you with minimal details to understand how you can implement realism in your drawings.Doing the above should really help develop your memory drawing and your skills, in general.Draw away!

How do I add dimension to my drawings?

First of all, I really like how you colored your drawing. It looks great! If you wanted to try to make your drawing pop out more, try drawing your character from different perspectives. Make your character more close up, since characters drawn far away don’t really pop up.If you look at this picture of Ace, you’ll see that he seems to be running towards you. This gives it a more “3-D” perspective. If you go onto Google and search up “fire anime” for some ideas on what I mean, you’ll see a lot of anime characters with fire around them, just like your drawing. In their pictures, you can see that the fire affects the colors of the shading. If we took away the fire in your drawing, it just looks a bit like a normal picture with a bit of action in it. However, if you added a bit of red or orange to the shading, it would look more like the fire was really there (this explanation is a bit confusing isn’t it.Even if you didn’t add any red to your shading, you can just make the places where the fire wouldn’t shine on a bit darker. Try searching up campfires and find a picture with people in them. With this picture, you can see how the colors are all warmer and how the places that aren’t hit by the light of the fire are dark. Try shading like that. The ponytail of your character is sort of chunky. Since your character is moving, the hair would also be moving around. With this character, you can see that her hair is moving upwards, since she’s moving downwards (cuz the action makes the hair flap up). You can also see more strands of hair. If you added more strands of hair of varying thicknesses, it will make it look a bit more realistic. If you still decided to make it full-body, make the legs bend a bit. It sort of looks like she’s about to fight, and people who fight won’t stand with their legs straight.I hope these suggestions are helpful! All pictures were found on Google
